Puzzle Fighter HD's precarious balancing act

We're very, very excited about the upcoming release of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, which we'll hereafter refer to as ... hell, the whole name is just dandy. However, some complaints from the original version have cropped up again, mainly the imbalance between certain characters (seems Ken and Donovan were a little cheap after all). David Sirlin came out to address these issues and described the tweaks he's performing on the upcoming PSN downloadable title.

The main, primary change is the drop pattern for certain characters to give them a fighting chance in the cheaper fights he saw between Ken or Donovan. If you take a look at the drop patterns, you'll notice Dan still isn't exactly a good choice to play as. A shame. Other tweaks include fixing the damage glitch caused by color-clearing diamonds and the addition of quick drops with the up button. We're excited about this game, so we're glad to see some of the more popular glitches are getting fixed up.

1. Yeah, would anyone care to explain what in the hell those patterns MEAN? I'm curious. I don't understand what those patterns in the image translate to a "drop pattern" in the game.

2. @ Stef Geiger -- I'm by no means a veteran at the game, but I can try to explain.

Basically, in the game, you use similar-colored blocks to build up large chunks (four small reds equal one larger red block, etc), then when you get a glowing circle of the same color, you use it to break said large blocks to unleash an "attack" on your opponent. The "attack" comes in the above drop patterns, depending on the size of the block you destroyed. So, if Dan attacks you, for example, if you have a red glowing circle on your side, his attack is rendered useless as your circle will destroy all of his pretty quick (you've got to last five moves before the attack turn into the colors in the list).

Yeah, I suck at explaining, but hopefully it helps a little!

4. @ scott

the rest of the game (i.e. the street fighter characters and animations) are in more than 16 colors dude.

5. If you've played this before on the PSX/PC, you'd be excited to grab it once it's released, HD or not. I've had 2 copies of this game 'lent out' to never see them again... I hate re-lender's...
