It seems the 40GB PlayStation 3 is slowly taking over the world, one country at a time. Now that it's headed to every major region, Sony has announced its new system bundled with the Spider-man 3Blu-ray will soon be released in Saudi Arabia for SR 1,799.
"The introduction of the new PS3 has been the result of extensive research into the entertainment needs and preferences of the next generation of PS3 owners," said Abdul Kader, marketing manager at MECL. "It has allowed us to deliver an extremely advanced, yet incredibly affordable high definition gaming and entertainment system, configured to the needs of the next generation of European PS3 owners."
Although we weren't aware Saudi Arabians were big on gaming, it's great to see Sony spreading the 40GB love throughout the world.
October has so far been a great month for Blu-ray movie fans. Last week, we were treated to several horror titles, and we're getting a few more this week.
28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
Surf's Up
Robocop
Edward Scissorhands
Twilight Zone: The Movie
From Hell
Reign Over Me
Nature's Journey
The Fly
Not only are classics like The Fly and Twilight Zone: The Movie heading our way, but we'll also get to see Tim Burton's underappreciated Edward Scissorhands in hi-def glory. If there's one movie you pick up this week, it's gotta be Scissorhands.
Happy Folklore week! Sure, Japan has had it for a couple of months now but since then we've been waiting patiently for the localisation process to be completed. This week our waiting pays off. But Folklore isn't the only big hitter to be released this week. Here's the full release list:
US Games
FIFA 08
Folklore
Sega Rally Revo
European Games
Skate
NBA 08
Folklore
Asian Games
NBA Live 08
Rise From Lair
The Godfather: The Don's edition
Not a bad haul. We're really pleased to see that Folklore is being released in the same week in Europe and America. We're also happy to see Skate finally get its PS3 release over in Europe. As for Asia, we're intrigued to see how well Lair (named Rise From Lair over there) sells, considering its critical acclaim.
Don't forget, if there's a game on the list that looks interesting to you then feel free to order it, regardless of territory. Your PS3 loves games from other regions. Release dates are subject to constant change, so make sure you check with your local store before venturing out of the house.
Now that we're entering the month of Halloween, we'll be seeing an influx of Blu-ray horror movies, and we can't be more excited. This week we're treated with vampires, zombies and psychotic killers, but if horror isn't your thing, you should be covered with A Room with a View and Galapagos.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Bram Stoker's Dracula
The Day After Tomorrow
Halloween
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Galapagos
A Room with a View
Any time two George Romero and Sam Raimi classics are released in the same week, you know you're in heaven. Do yourself a favor and at least pick up Dawn of the Dead; it's the best zombie movie ever made.
Looking for a new game this week? We hope you like the NBA, because that's pretty much all that's on the menu. Three separate NBA games are being released by three different publishers this week. Here's the full release list:
US Game
NBA Live 08
NBA 2K8
NBA 08
European Games
Madden NFL 08
According to reader tip, SingStar is also available in Sweden.
Asian Games
Heavenly Sword
NBA 08
Pretty slow week unless you're an NBA fan. It's nice to see that Asia is getting Heavenly Sword and we hope to see some decent sales figures from that. Japan, in particular, love their stories and while the gameplay in Heavenly Sword isn't anything too special, the story is worth the purchase. Next week things start hotting up as we head into the holiday season. We hope you've been saving up - the next few months are going to be expensive.
Your PS3 is region free and can play any game from any region, so if you're a European NBA fan, don't lose heart. Release dates are constantly subject to change so make sure you call your local store before leaving the house.
Although this week we don't get quite the quantity or quality of Blu-ray releases that we did last week, we can relish in the fact that if you compiled bits and pieces from each movie, it could possibly make the most bad-ass movie of all time.
Just imagine werewolves, cowboys and the Japanese doing battle against vampires, Nazis and Yankees as Halle Berry comes on screen to spout some nonsense and just looks pretty. You really can't get any better than that.
Underworld: Unrated
Black Book
Memoirs of a Geisha
Tekkonkinkreet
The Wild Bunch
Wyatt Earp
Gods and Generals
Gothika
But if this week's releases don't satisfy you, just wait until next week when we're invaded by the undead – now that's something werewolves, vampires or Nazis just can't kill.

Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of September 24th
Whoosh! That's the sound of games literally flying off the production lines and onto shelves. Today's release list is possibly the best yet. Remember when we were having weeks like these? Thank goodness those are over. Here's the full release list:
US Games
Skate
World Series of Poker 2008
EU Games
Stuntman: Ignition
SEGA Rally
FIFA 08
Ratatouille
Asian Games
Warhawk
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
This week at least one high profile game being released in each territory. We're intrigued to see how Oblivion and Warhawk will do over there here in Japan. All of these games are subject to the constant change in whim of the Game Fates, so don't start moaning if any last-minute delays occur. It's not our fault.
If you see something on that list that you like the look of, but it's not in your region, then don't fret. Simply import the game and play it on your region free PS3. Simple. Which titles will you be picking up?
It looks like Sony and the rest of the Blu-ray crew are ensuring our feelings aren't still hurt from that fiasco a few weeks ago as we're getting 13 titles to choose from this week.
Troy: Director's Cut
Smallville: The Complete Sixth Season
Alexander Revisted: The Final Cut
A Few Good Men
The Condemned
We Are Marshall
Deliverance
House of 1000 Corpses
Viva Las Vegas
The Best of Blu-ray, Vol. 1
The Best of Blu-ray, Vol. 2
The Best of Blu-ray, Vol. 3
Jailhouse Rock
Not only does this week's releases feature a great assortment of movies any guy would love, it also includes three volumes of The Best of Blu-ray, which feature four classic movies in each set. What really makes these collections great, though, is the incredible savings you get. Each set is currently on sale at $58 at Amazon - that's like getting two movies free!
Wow, we're a day or so late with this one. Sorry about that. A couple of us are currently rushed off our feet preparing for our trip to Tokyo tomorrow. Regardless, we've managed to find the time to deliver to you the (frankly, quite underwhelming) news regarding this week's game releases. Check out the full list below.
US Games
Nothing too exciting. Never mind, eh. Thankfully weeks like this are now the exception rather than the rule. If you're a Stuntman fan, however, then rejoice! Even if you live outside of the US you can happily import and play it on your region free console. Release dates are subject to a constant flux, so be sure to check before leaving the house. It's dangerous out there.
[UPDATE] Whoops! We goofed. We forgot that the Warhawk retail box is out in Europe this week. Thanks everyone for reminding us.

According to UK videogame site CVG, Loco Roco Cocoreccho is rolling onto the UK PSN next week for the budget price of just £1.99. This puts it significantly cheaper than the Japanese release, which at 800 yen puts it at almost 2x the cost of the UK release.
It is assumed that the reason for the cheap cost is that this isn't a full fledged game per se, but some kind of weird bastard child of a Loco Roco game (with full tilt controls evidently) and um, a screensaver. They haven't mentioned HOW it's a screensaver, but considering the title has online leaderboards and actual gameplay so it's going to be a pretty damn in-depth screensaver.
So with the British and the Japanese getting Loco Roco Cocoreccho next week, where's the American love?
SOE's multiplayer poker game, High Stakes on the Vegas Strip will be released this Thursday through the PlayStation store. The title will go for $9.99 and supports a variety of features, now fairly standard for Sony PSN releases. High Stakes will support 1080p resolution, online play with up to six people, audio chat and online leaderboards.
The game is looking to offer a lot to the hardcore poker fans out there, with five different types of poker, online tournaments and extremely detailed statistics on players. In addition as you play you'll win points to unlock extra content like special items and clothing for your in-game avatar so that you can customize your character to your liking. Supposedly, there will even be 'bling' so that everybody at the table knows what a ballah you are. Any other poker fans out there looking forward to High Stakes?
This week's release list can only be described as ... heavenly. We've been waiting for a long time for this. Heavenly Sword is finally available to the masses this week and we can't wait to get our hands on it. Here's the full release list:
US Games
Heavenly Sword

NHL 08
NHL 2K8

Megazone 23: Aoi Garland
Megazone 23: Aoi Garland Limited Edition
Check it out. Two potentially great games being released simultaneously throughout America and Europe. This is what we really love to see. As for Megazone 23: Aoi Garland, we've never heard of it. If you're intrigued and want to try it out then go right ahead, your PS3 will play games from any region. Release dates are constantly subject to change, so always keep that in mind.
First of all, we're late with this update by a day. Actually, two days if you live in Japan. Secondly, we have been neglecting our Japanese PS3 account owning friends a bit. We apologize for all that, but we'll start righting that wrong, by listing these new items in the Japanese PlayStation Store:
Sony have updated the PlayStation.Blog to show today's US PSN release list. The content isn't out yet, but should be up within the next few hours. It's a pretty big update so let's get started:
We promised not to moan about the EU store for at least a week, so let's just move on and start crowing about another excellent American update. How long can Sony keep up this pace? Hopefully for the foreseeable future. The PSN is finally becoming a proper content delivery system. For Americans, at least ...
