Best Buy documents might confirm 40GB PS3

Engadget has posted several Best Buy inventory documents that appear to confirm what we've all been awaiting with bated breath – the $399 40GB PlayStation 3.

The documents also reveal the new model will come packaged with the Spiderman 3 Blu-ray and has an "In Stock Date" of Oct. 28. However, the console's actual release date was not filled in, so we don't know exactly when it will be available to the public, but the newly rumored Nov. 16 release date is certainly possible.

At this point, we can't wait for Sony's supposed Oct. 12 "big bang" announcement to see if there are any more tricks up its sleeve.

1. Hope this will calm all the people complaining about the price. If it does not, then they can go buy a brick and play catch with it...or Halo, whatever.

2. as an employee at a Canadian bestbuy, I can tell you firsthanded that it DOES look like the RSS program used by all Bestbuys.. could it be photoshopped? Of course, but I'm hoping for a price job, not for my sake (I already own one), but for the enjoyment of the rest of the people who are holding out for a PS3 due to the price.

Maybe this will be the beginning of PS3 rebound.

3. The UPC code shows 40GB PS3 at upcdatabase too..btw.

4. The warranty is wrong. PS3 warranty is 1 year, right? Unless they changed it for this model.

5. So $399 at the current exchange rate, that works out to $399 Canadian right? Watch it retail for $475 or something equally ridiculous that will have me punching every midget I see in a blind rage.

6. AWESOME!!!! Sony comes through again!

7. I hope for the sake of others that this price drop will be across the world soon. If so, Sony has really done their part in taking a big loss by making PS3 so cheap, but I bet there will still be jerks who says that they'll wait for $299 instead.

8. I'll wait for 199 actually...

10. exolstice: don't hold your breath!! i'm betting on $450 here in Canada.... 'cause you know how retailers like to sucker punch us Canadians.

11. #5, In Denmark we pay about $690 for the 60 GB model, and $70 more for the Starterpack, so PLEASE stop complaining about the price ;)

12. play.com in the UK has it already up... just out of stock...

13. #5: You realize pricing on things like this work like fuel, i.e. the price you pay for it is the price the distributor/retailer paid at the time. Just because the US and Canada have a 1 to 1 exchange rate TODAY doesn't mean there wasn't a disparate rate at the time the units shipped. Therefore, they pass that cost on.

Now, when the cheaper unit is released, if the exchange rate holds, you'll pay less. Then again, who knows if Sony Japan cares about the exchange rate between Canadian and US dollars. I don't know the intricacies of their distribution network...they may not do a US to Canada transfer.

Also take into consideration the insane taxation and tariffs Canada imposes on imports.
