Blu-ray movie releases for the week of July 30th

This week's release list may as well only have one title, because what a title it is. 300 hits Blu-ray this week to rabid pre-orders and has been getting ecstatic reviews for its top-notch digital transfer. Audio in particular is supposed to be amazingly bombastic and satisfying. The title has been one of the top-requested Blu-ray releases since it broke onto the scene earlier this year in all its muscly Spartan glory. Some other movies are coming out too, but come on -- nobody cares.

Here's the list anyway:
  • 300
  • Shooter
  • Blue Planet (IMAX)
  • Roving Mars (IMAX)
See? Nothing else but 300. If the rest of the releases were Spartan children they would have never come back from the wilderness. Instead there'd just be a very fat and happy wolf.

1. 300 was on the top of my list, but Shooter was good too!

I'm coppin' both.

Wait...isn't Blue Planet supposed to be good?

2. If you like documentaries yes ^^

3. I see Blue Planet is on there.

So like, when Little Big Planet arrives, can they like, tie it in with this Blu-Ray disc for a really crazy promo? Something along the lines of...

Little Big Blue Planet?

4. @Darkdrium777: That's a good idea - but I'd try to find a nice 1080p if I was you. The prices are low enough now to consider it! (Last week I saw a 720p for $699.99 and a 1080p for $899.99, even though there was a screen size difference, the quality of 1080p is worth getting imho.)

@John: XD

@Everyone: I liked the 300, but I don't know if I want to own this one yet... I'd wish they would come out with Number 23 on BD. That's more my style. (Even though I love watching big burly men in short skirts kicking the living crap out of each other, I still don't know if the transfer makes it worth the money. I'll wait to see a few reviews before jumping on this one!) =D

5. @3/John

That is one of the worst promotions I've ever heard of...except for selling the Xbox 360 without built in Wifi and charging for online.

I love it; I can now say stuff like that and security guards beat up the Xbox 360 fanboys who say it ain't true.

6. Im getting 300 this week! Should look great on my 1080p xbr2 lcd!

7. I second the Shooter comment. Wahlberg did an(other) excellent job. Spartans and snipers can coexist.

Posted at 9:58PM on Jul 30th 2007 by JKPierce

8. I just ordered 300 on BD and the dual disk set on reg DVD for a friend from amazon. I saw it in the theater and can't wait for my BD copy!

I love Amazon prime...

10. Shooter had its moments, but was overall retarded. ESPECIALLY the three endings.

300 KILLS.

15. Should I buy blu-ray disc, if my tv maxs out at 720p?

Posted at 5:12AM on Jul 31st 2007 by J_Swayze

16. @sicklesdawg - yes

I have had 300 on bluray for over a week now (some online retailers were shipping as early as the 20th), its really good!

17. @Consolcwby: Yep I know the prices go down all the time. All I need is money, and that never goes up though... :(
I can't ask too much of my parents either, we just went to Italy and we're getting a high end PC soon... I'm afraid the TVHD will have to wait, but I saw a really nice one at Best Buy.

18. I know PS3 games are region free, but are Blu-Rays region free as well?

19. Where's that kid who thought Heavenly Sword was perverted... I'd love to know what he makes of 300

Posted at 8:42AM on Jul 31st 2007 by KeVil

20. I thought blue-ray movies only played @1080p via HDMI cable? Is this false?

One thing I can say though...the TV makes all the difference in the world. I've played my PS3 over a friends 60 inch projection screen and it looked like total ass. But when I showed him my PS3 hooked up to my 40" XBR3(yeah I couldn't see spending damn near $4,000 on the 50") he was floored. Anywho...don't buy a cheap ass TV and talk do do about the PS3 though. You've been warned!

I bought Shooter and that was a damn good movie. I tried buying 300...sold out all over this little island before noon. Now I have to wait for restock next week. *sobs*
