One of Nintendo's many bombshells last night had to be the announcement of Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii platform. However, it was unclear at the time whether or not the previously announced PS3 version would be affected.According to Forbes, it appears that Capcom is abandoning the PS3 version altogether, making Wii the only platform for Monster Hunter 3. "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title," Capcom managing corporate officer Katsuhiko Ichii said. This statement comes just weeks after Capcom pledged increase support for Sony's next generation platform.
While the Monster Hunter franchise has a relatively small following in the States, it is a powerhouse franchise in Japan. The last iteration of the franchise, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, sold over a million copies when it launched on PSP.

So by high dev cost they just meant they were too cheap to actually make a next gen game..

To me this makes little sense. Seeing as not that long ago Capcom said all future games would now be made for the PS3 over the PS2. Plus Capcom said they wanted there games to come out on as many system as they could. So then MH3 should still be coming out on PS3 plus there should even be a 360 version.
Another thing this just means MH3 will not have a big graphics jump as it would have on the PS3 or 360.
Also I wonder what this means for MH3 to come out on the PSP seeing as those games sell alot on the PSP. Plus as of right now the PSP has more consoles sold then the Wii so if MH3 went exclusive to the PSP that would be big news. Plus help sell even more PSP.
Plus it would be another big shock just like Dragon Quest IX went to the DS.
So to me this is really big new and will sell even more Wiis. So all this will do is make the Wii even harder to find. So Nintendo needs to get more Wiis out in Japan and the rest of the world.
But Like I said this is a big shock seeing as you would think MH3 would go to the PS3 and 360. But seeing as no news has been said about this game in a long time you have to wonder what happened behind the sceens.

Capcom has shown they hate little to no love for Sony awhile ago. Many Playstation owners have since moved on. I am sure it will be a great game, but it is one I will gladly live without.

see they do crap like this and probably say "oh the install base is low" but if the game actually came out it would increase the install base alone. So their lack of putting this game out hurts the chance of a greater install base which makes them not want to make the game...very confusing

This does really make me mad. I really was looking forward to monster hunter with next gen greaphics. It wouldn't even be so bad if they were like, we're making it only for 360 cause PS3 costs are too high. But instead, they go to the system with the worst graphics. This is a game that needs graphics. I want to be wowed when I see a giant dragon, not a pixely piece of crap like on the psp versions. Whatever capcom. You decided to take online play out of MH2 for PSP so I didn't buy it. Now you take the graphics out of MH3 and I won't buy it. Hope you enjoy the low sales.

Well they want to make money... what can we expect? If you are in control would you rather have a big bonus or a bigger bonus? Anyway, RE is like the only Capcom series I like (besides SF) so it doesn't affect me... It is sad that Wii is lowering the standards and both Sony and MS's next system will probbaly wont be as ambitious as this gen.. thanks to Wii

I'd be too busy for this game anyway, what with playing Halo 3, Bioshock, The Orange Box and Call of Duty 4. Oh yeah, those are XBox 360 games. Maybe I'll fire up the PS3 to watch Transformers. Oops, can't do that. Hmmm, well I suppose I could just play some Q*Bert.

It makes sense. . .
Whats the biggest money making system in Japan?
The Nintendo Wii.
Whats one of the biggest selling games in Japan?
The Monster Hunter franchise.
Capcom doesn't hate Sony, they just want to maximize their profits. The Monster Hunter franchise has never been widely accepted in the U.S. or in Europe (Sony's strongest locale).

Gosh, so refreshing to see xbox with a list of variety of games not all based on FPS genre... oh wait.

This is going to sell like fire. The Monster Rancher series in Japan actually moved systems, and rocketed PSP sales. I think Capcom saw this as a big picture purchase... if people were willing to spend an extra $200 to buy a PSP with game, then they must believe people will spend $250 to buy a Wii if they don't own it.
With the PS3 still being around $375-$500 in Japan, people might not want to shell out an extra $500 for the PS3... To me this seems like the safe bet for Capcom, and I personally think the money saved/profited from Monster Rancher on the Wii will be used to offset future projects.
It's like horror movies... they are low budget, easy to make, and make millions... they use the money from horror movies to help back up the development of the big budget summer movies and epic dramatic oscar winning movies. This is Capcom's money maker that they will probably use to fund future more epic projects.
It's a win-win for everyone... I don't see the problem... cept maybe Nintendo needs to start pressing out Wii's like Government prints out pennies.

lazy dev's don't want to make a next gen game engin so they port the PS2 one to the wii and just put on a few extra polygons.
