Water-cooled PS3: liquid engineering at its finest

Reader Comments
(Page 1)2. Looks fun. This is more of a hobby fun thing then a needed thing unless your a PC overclocker going for the record. Cool to see it done on the PS3 though.
More power to ya!

3. That is Sweeet!!
But I doubt you need all that with the PS3.
Now in the 360 That would work!!!

4. Are you sure you've posted this in the right place Nick? :P

5. Ah damn, Nick's comment didn't make the cut. Oh well, yea, this thing is nowhere NEAR necessary. I'd much rather have a walkthrough on how to network my PS3 in with my PC so I can watch videos, drag and drop files, etc to my PS3. Anyone have one of those?

6. A waste. PS3 doesn't need to be cooled, the internal fans and heatsinks actually work. (surprise)

8. Doesn't look very elegant.

9. @Egster,
That's another reason why it should be on the 360!

10. I've been thinking about something like this ever since they announced the PS3.

11. Maybe US PS3s are low-noise but most EU units are very loud (not quite the jet-engine called Xbox 360, but not far either) - I personally know 6 people with PS3s which are all very noisy and from what I have read, the problem is very common i Europe.
So a good cooling solution for the PS3 could be useful in Europe atleast.

12. @ Beano : I have heard about a Swedish guy complaining that his PS3 was louder than normal. But I have a European PS3 (Netherlands) and it's not loud at all. My PC makes three times the noise. Although the latter has 2 120 mm and one 80 mm fan which kinda increases the noise output.

13. Whoever created this needs to sell it to Microsoft! THEY NEED IT!! LOL Looks cool though!!

14. Wow! A PS3 actually put to use! I see it still doesn't play any games, though. Oh wait, this is the DelayStation we're talking about here.

15. @ 14...why aren't you playing Halo 3?
Wouldn't ya think it'd be more fun than posting on this site?
Or maybe you don't have a 360 at all...but blindly play follow the leader?
Who knows?

16. @ Justin
Lol so because he may have Halo 3 that means he MUST be on his 360 day and night huh?
Your logic is quite astounding...I mean really breakthrough stuff you got right there.
All the jealous and bitter sony fanboyism in this threat is quite funny. If the only thing you can brag about on your system is, "the heatsinks work perfectly fine" you've got serious issues.
The delaystation 4 has no games when compared the Wii and 360 and for all the people in here to be giggling like a bunch of girls over overheating and suggesting to MS to look into this just shows how desperate you guys are for SOMETHING to do.
I guess not having any games to play must really be killing you guys. And I'm sure all these delays aren't helping matters...I wonder if you're continue to blame "lazy developers" now that sony's OWN singstar is delayed as well. What will happen if Uncharted also falls into the "delay trap"?
So if I were you Justin I'd be more worried about a lot of other things rather than giving a damn about konajinx Halo 3 playing time to Joystiq posting ratio.

17. Please forgive my typing errors....
threat = thread
delaystation 4 = delaystation 3
you're = you will
But yeah that picture is wierd. I wouldn't want a tube like that sticking out of any system I owned. Plus his room would have to be super hot for him to resort to something that extreme.

18. @TheForceUnleased08
I do admit that the PS3 doesn't have as many good games as the 360... But when you go to Gamerankings the PS3 has way more 80% and up games than the Wii, even if you just count exclusives...

19. I suspect this has nothing to do with console-war flamebaiting, stock heatsinks, or overheating, or fan volume. Something much more sinister is afoot: ingenuity, the right set of tools, time and a passion.

1. looks cooky, but hey, if it works..it works.
IMO PS3s don't overheat at an alarming enough rate to warrant this type of cooling system.
Perhaps another company who's product DOES overheat may be able to use this?
Can't imagine who though.
