Introducing the PS360 controller! I want one!

As I've mentioned on a couple of occasions, I'm not a huge fan of the SIXAXIS controller. Sure, it's attractive and it's functional... but, it's lacking in a couple of important areas. First, it is a bit on the light side. Second, it is not as "ergonomic" as it could be. And, third, I prefer the off-axis thumb-stick layout much better. Yeah, all of this is completely subjective... but the bottom-line is that I prefer the Xbox 360 controller to the new SIXAXIS (not that the X360 control doesn't have it's own issues).

Well, it appears that some PS3 owners agree that the SIXAXIS is not perfect and are paying big bucks to freelance uber-modders to balance both form and function to create the world's first PS360 contoller. It's got the classic candy shell of a 360, but the caramel-filled center of a PS3. I might have to order up a couple of this bad-boys. I would only make one modification: paint the whole thing piano gloss black. Awesome. Here's the step-by-step creation of the controller. And here's a clip of the thing in action:

1. wtf @ those random shots of that nerd and the [email protected] project.

I think this is fake

2. okay...well not fake but i don't even know what to think. if its just a ps3 controller inside a 360 controller case, all that improves would be the supposed still wouldn't support the rumble function. or would it?
also, its the usb connection that throws the genuine factor off.

3. Was that a joke.. someone took the time to cut those scenes together? Anyways, that video doesnt prove anything. And, he's using composite cables (!), wtf, hes got bigger issues than the sixaxis.

4. That person really gets into their gaming.

5. Of course its not fake guys.
Thats Ben Heck. If he can make a 360 and a Wi into a laptop, I think he can turn a 360 controller into a PS3 controller

6. Am I alone in saying that I don't like having the off-center joystiq? I like the Playstation controller for being so symmetrical.

7. The only thing wrong with the X360 controller is the d-pad. It's too soft, not clicky enough. Other than that it is the perfect controller, the best controller that has ever existed. Before that the best was the Gamecube controller, and before that the Dreamcast controller. The Playstation controllers have always been crap. By the way, I own a PS2 and play tons of games on it all the time, so I'm not just flaming; those controllers seriously suck.

8. Tom: i think you need to stop smoking...the gamecube controller was horrible, i mean not even close to being the best controller ever...the only generation of consoles that it would've been better than was back in the days of NES and atari. the dual shock was and still is the best controller...the perfect weight and size and it's symmetrical, not to mention the buttons have the perfect feel

9. Best Controllers ever = Neo-Geo, SNES, Xbox 360. Dreamcast was nice also but bad for fighting games. This is a nice mod and I'm trying to find out how much he charges to do the mod. I want a black 360 controller so bad.

10. i like the playstation controller

11. "The only thing wrong with the X360 controller is the d-pad"

And the shoulder buttons, they are too thin, put too much pressure on your fingers, and hurt to use for extended periods of time. (You get "Crazy Taxi" finger)
And lets not forget the shape sucks. Where the wings join up with the body, should've been thinner.

Oh, and the charge connector should've been USB.
The thing collects dirt like a mofo.

"Before that the best was the Gamecube controller, and before that the Dreamcast controller"

Both of those were horrible.
Cube had nothing good about it.
The buttom shoulder buttons had a lip at the top which hampered use of the Z button.
There should've been a Z button on the left side.
The dpad was horribly small.
The top of the analog stick sucks. N64 style groves? Did they not learn from the "Mario Party" blisters? Where is the click-in? (L3/R3) And why does the c-stick suck so much. At the very least it should've been the same as the other stick.
Where is select?
The bean buttons sucked hard, even Wii went back to the diamond formation (classic controller)
The only things Cube got right was the start button, and the B button.

Dreamcasts controller was garbage. No dual analog. It invented "Crazy Taxi" finger with it's horrible triggers. The shape made you angle your wrists painfully. The start button is too far out of the way. Where is select? The dpad is garbage.
The only things they got right was the VMU slot, second slot, and the diamond buttons.

SIXAXIS is the best controller I've ever used.
Though it too has a mistake. Rumble, obviously. Where is it?
I love that it uses USB. I love the new triggers (no "Crazy Taxi" finger) I love how clicky all the buttons are. The dpad is the best this gen.

12. That video was funny. But I LIKE the new ps3 controller. I like how light it is, it's like there's nothing in my hands, I'm in the game.

That said, I do appreciate the superior plastics of the 360 controller. But many people have pointed out, it's digital buttons can be painful.

I haven't experienced this with the ps3 controller.

My main complaint with ps3 controller would be L2 and R2, they need something under them to rest your finger on.

Motorstorm uses R2 just fine, since the only other button I have to push is X for boost. So I can use my index finger on R2.

But God Forbid I have to press R2 with my middle finger, and access R1. It's just painful. I imagine a flange, below R2, so that my middle finger has something hard to press against, instead of nothing, while I'm working that button.

13. @Tom, the gamecube controller? That thing hurt my hands, and it felt so cheap. The playstation controller felt better to me. The original xbox controller was goofy and large, but the 360's controller, from a Playstation fan, felt really good. I still prefer the playstation controller, but I have no problems with the 360 controller. Great materials, great feel.

14. That guy scares me.

16. Extinction, you are an idiot.

"SIXAXIS is the best controller I've ever used"

your quote here proves it.

You were dissapointed when the boomeraing was dropped.

The Ps3 controller is one of the most dissapointing things about this gen. (among many others)

17. Put the sixaxis d-pad on that controller and it would be perfect.

Posted at 5:11PM on Apr 15th 2007 by Hoffer

18. Perfect controller crossover imho:

- Symmetry: Playstation
- D-Pad: Playstation
- Sticks: Xbox360 (PS has good sticks too, but I like the indentation on the top)
- Upper shoulder buttons: Playstation
- Lower triggers: Xbox360 with the "end zone buttons" of the Gamecube pad
- Ergonomics: Xbox360
- Charging: via USB and therefore getting rid of the bulky battery bay

19. Saturn has the hands-down best traditional controller ever.

Posted at 6:07PM on Apr 15th 2007 by SKI

20. id like to see the sixaxis modded into a 360 controller. (D-Pad is such a piece of crap for the 360 controller) not sure you could stuff the 360 controller into the sixaxis though... its huge.
