Today's 'LOL it's cheap for a reason' deal of the day

Really? Two PS3 controllers for only $29? What a deal!

Wait ... but they look like these monstrosities. Sure, you could take advantage of this deal, but what will your friends say when they come over to your home? Remember this: most of you have spent $600 on a machine that was built to look sexy. Let's not ruin it with some cheap looking peripherals, okay?

For the cheap and foolish: Available in red. And blue.

Deal of the Day: Time Crisis 4 for $80

How can an $80 game ever be a deal? Well, when it includes the Guncon 3. Namco Bandai's upcoming Time Crisis 4 is a pricey purchase thanks to the bundled peripheral. However, it promises to be the most advanced light gun on the market. Hopefully, we'll see other games support the Guncon -- it would be a total waste to just make a single game for it. The PSN is a perfect place for Namco Bandai (or any other publisher) to release small new light gun games. (Of course, we hope Sega realizes how perfect it would be to bring Let's Go Jungle! to the system ... )

Amazon.com is offering the game and gun peripheral for $80. Yes, it's a bit much, but it's probably the cheapest pre-order you'll find right now.

Deal of the Day: Oblivion for $20 [Update]

Sure, this isn't the Game of the Year Edition. But hey, at $20, you're getting yourself one of the biggest, meatiest games ever. In fact, according to Metacritic, this is the single best game on PS3 right now. You could spend $20 on something far worse than this game.

[Update: Deal is dead. Looks like amazon.com is sold out of copies. There are third-party merchants on the site, but they're offering the game at regular price.]

PS3 and eight Blu-ray movies for $475

It sucks to be an early adopter, y'know? We had to suffer intolerable waits in line, high prices, and a lack of free bonuses. (Okay, so we got "Talladega Nights.") Either through a glitch, or an intentional deal on amazon.com's part, you can buy a 60GB PS3 system and get eight Blu-ray movies for about $475, free shipping included. How does one take part in such a spectacular deal?
  • Add the 60GB PS3 to your amazon.com shopping cart.
  • Choose three Blu-ray movies from this list and add them to the cart. [Updated link!]
  • Right before checkout, you'll see the discount applied (see picture, right).
Then, you'll get a rebate form for five more Blu-ray movies. Even if you don't want to be part of a next-gen movie format war, this is still one of the cheapest ways we've seen to get a PS3 -- the free movies are a nice added bonus.

Deal of the Day: GRAW 2 for $45 at Fry's

With the incredible amount of games coming out over the next couple months, PlayStation 3 owners' wallets are going to get a bit stressed. Luckily the game deals keep rolling in letting gamers on a budget pick up the hot titles AND still be able to eat.

Today we have a nice tip from Cheap Ass Gamer that Fry's is selling Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 for $45 dollars, a tasty 25% discount from the retail price. The game has been getting good reviews and even though the game is 6 months late, Ubisoft appears to have done a good job at porting it from the 360 and have added quite a bit of additional content to help compensate for the delay. The cheap price just makes it all the more attractive.

Deal of the Day: Lair and Folklore for £15 each at Amazon

Despite there being no retail releases in Europe this week, Amazon are keeping people happy with two potentially great games available for £15 each. Lair and Folklore have both received the less-than-half-price treatment and are now firmly at the top of the bestsellers list for Video Games.

This seemingly random deal has no explanation attached, nor an indication of when it might end. So if you fancy getting two PS3 exclusives for this incredibly cheap price, then do it now. Both titles promise to be excellent fun and we've thoroughly enjoyed our hands on time with both of them. The only problem now is, do you import Lair and pay full price, but get it a month early? Or order it from Amazon for less than half price and wait until mid October? Decisions, decisions ...

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Deal of the Day: Nyko "Blu Wave" remote

Want to use something other than the PS3 controller to control movies on your system? Well, you can pick up Nyko's "Blu Wave" remote for a shockingly low $10 from amazon.com. However, there's one crucial flaw that prevents it from being an all-around great deal: the lack of a power button. You can, as some have done, use the RF adapter to teach other universal remotes (such as the Harmony) to interface with the PS3. Or, you can go for Sony's more expensive, but more elegant solution for $25.

Deal of the day: 60GB PS3 for £329.99

Shopto.net is offering a 60GB PS3 for £329.99 with free 24 hour shipping within the UK. There's nothing bundled with it, so chances are you'll need to pick up a game or two. Maybe an extra controller.

We're torn with this one. On the one hand, we've been saying all along that the entry level price for the PS3 needs to be lower. On the other hand, the £425 bundle in most stores carries a "saving" of almost £115. Having said that, this deal carries an actual saving of £95. "Actual" meaning you don't spend the money in the first place.

On the other hand (yes, we're three-armed mutants. How do you think we type so fast?) £329 for the best Blu-Ray player on the market is an incredible deal. What do you guys think?

[Thanks Patrick]

Deal of the Day: Absorb the Darkness for only $49.99

Our favorite penny-pincher, CheapyD from Cheap Ass Gamer, has found yet another tasty deal for us. This week you can pick up The Darkness for a mere $49.99 from Circuit City. This knocks the price of Starbreeze's latest FPS from the unruly next-gen price of $60 to a more comfortable PS2-level price point.

The Darkness has been getting fantastic reviews so far and looks like a must-buy when it comes out today. And now, thanks to CheapyD, you can buy the game and even have enough money left over for a McDonalds value meal and a 40 of Old English. Now THAT'S good living.

Deal of the Day: SIXAXIS for $40

Controllers don't come cheap these days. Sony's tilting PS3 controller usually retails for $50, but amazon.com is having a special sale, knocking the price down to $40 (with free shipping to boot!). If you're not waiting for a controller that can rumble (and who knows when that'll arrive), this might be what you need to finally start playing some multiplayer PS3 games.

Deal of the Day: Blu-Ray prices dropping fast thanks to web promotions

So we're in the midst of a game drought. No big deal. By a lucky coincidence the PS3 can also play Blu-Ray discs. Did you know that? Now, with a recently introduced "3 for 2" promotion at Amazon US and DVD Empire, getting your favourite films in High Definition has never been so cheap.

The list of films available in the promotion is limited to 34 of the less popular titles. Even so, there should still be some decent movies there worthy of your hard earned cash. Some of the more notable films include Casino Royale, Big Fish, Memento, Silent Hill and House of Flying Daggers. While it would have been nice to have seen Pirates of the Caribbean I & II in the mix, they seem to be selling well enough as it is.

Alternatively, you can save 20% on all Blu-Rays and DVDs over at deepdiscount.com by using the voucher code "USATODAY". With a combination of these two promotions, you'll never have to pay full price for a Blu-Ray disc again. Maybe.

[Update: Corrected wording. "3 for 2," not "2 for 1."]

Deal of the day: PS3 + game + HDMI cable = £399.85

Want to save some money on a new PS3? Of course you do. 'Itz 2 expensif!!11' is the most common complaint we hear from would-be PS3 owners. Well fear not, because dabs.com have three great deals going on their website right now. Unfortunately they're only available for people in the UK. The deals are as follows:
  • PS3 60GB + Resistance: Fall of Man + HDMI cable = £399.85
  • PS3 60GB + Resistance: Fall of Man + Motorstorm + HDMI cable = £425.03
  • PS3 60GB + Resistance: Fall of Man + Motorstorm + Formula 1 + HDMI cable = £439.80
Not a bad few deals. Still more expensive than America, yes, but that's never going to change. A free game and cable for under the RRP of the console is nothing to sniff at. To top it off dabs.com are offering free delivery for the bank holiday weekend, so get your skates on and order before tuseday.

Deal of the Day: Free SIXAXIS with PS3 purchase

Today's Deal of the Day comes to us from EBGames. For the next week (5/11-5/17) you get a free SIXAXIS controller with the purchase of a PlayStation 3. A great deal for people planning on picking up a PlayStation 3 soon, it saves you enough to (almost) buy another game and sets you up nicely for multiplayer action.

The coupon is required though, so make sure to print out the one posted on the official PlayStation forums.

PSM brings DMC4 preview; gets cheap

As many of you are already familiar, PSM has scored a huge 16-page exclusive on Devil May Cry 4 in their latest issue (in newsstands today). Their preview of the multi-platform action game has us yearning for more: "It's safe to say that the generational leap in hardware has not caused the series to lose sight of what it is: pure, all-out, unforgiving action ... Many mainstays from the series, including colored orbs, air juggling, and the Euro-gothic aesthetic remain intact- only everything is rendered in eye-blistering high-definition at a locked 60 frames per second."

While current subscribers are enjoying the dreamy pictures of Nero fighting demon hordes, the vigilant deal-watching group CAG has unearthed a fantastic deal for new subscriptions. 12 issues of PSM are now available for $5 at amazon.com, after instant rebate. While new subscribers are unlikely to receive the latest DMC4 blowout, one Lincoln is still a great deal for something to read when you absolutely have no access to PS3 Fanboy.

Get a new PS3 for cheap

A PS3 price drop?! No, not yet. However, Kmart.com appears to have quite a spectacular deal on a new 60GB PlayStation 3. Using coupon code 004687478018, you'll be able to pick up a PS3 for a full 10% off: only $540, plus shipping. With Virtua Fighter 5 out now, and MotorStorm right around the corner, this may be the push you need to PLAY B3YOND.

But, if you're in need of a new "full HD" 1080p, you may be interested in this other deal, courtesy of Newegg.com: buy this 46" Sharp Aquos TV, get a PS3 for free. Not bad, huh?
