Deal of the Day: Armored Core 4 for $17

If you've been wondering how you can get into the Armored Core series, but don't want to "suffer" with the PS2 titles, you may have looked at the fourth iteration of the series as an entry point. There's a lot of mecha tweaking and customizing to be found, but the gameplay was found to be lacking. Still, at an entry price of $17, even the moderately interesting may take the plunge. Sure, it's the Asian version and most of the vocals are not in English, but you do get an English instruction sheet (probably more accurate to say an Engrish instruction sheet) and some subtitles in parts of the game. It's up to you guys to take advantage or to let it slide, but it's our deal of the day.
[Thanks Michael!]

2. Wooooo, It got onnn!

If you've played the demo and liked it then you'd do fine with the retail version even though its got the Japanese vocals. Its not everyone's cup of tea but it is good to those who like the whole mech thing [Plus ive saved £22 - Roxxor!]

3. That's not a deal, that's a crime...against humanity, and anyone who is unlucky enough to play this craptacular game!

4. "Engrish"???

You probably thought that you were being quite clever when you wrote that, but its probably more accurate to categorize you as insensitive and ignorant. Way to break through those racial barriers Nick!!! Remind me to recommend to you some Charlie Chan films that I think you might enjoy.

5. It's not a deal because you couldn't make any self respecting gamer play this if it was free.

6. I always liked Armored Core but I hate what they did to the customization menus. I find it near impossible to construct mechs like I did in the previous games. I paid $40 for the game when it was on sale at Best Buy but haven't played past the 3rd mission. I keep wantin gto put it back in but just haven't.

I really wish they didn't change the way the game worked. It's still too complicated for non Armored Core fans and now it sucks for Armored Core fans, so in an attempt to bring new people to the franchise it just pissed everyone off.

7. I would take the Japanese voice over English, any day. If I play a game that has either Japanese or English, I always pick Japanese with subtitles because their voice acting is almost always superior to ours.

8. laa...

Would you prefer 'fucked up english' or 'english as written by retards?'

Engrish conveys to me the user that the instructions are going to be a mix of English and Japanese and Nonsense.

Maybe you need some sensitivity training..to not be so damn sensitive.

Wiki:

Engrish refers to grammatically incorrect variations of English, often found in East Asian countries. While the term may refer to spoken English, it is more often used to describe written English, for which problems are easier to identify and publicize. Engrish has been found on everything from poorly translated signs, menus, and instruction manuals to bizarrely worded advertisements and strange t-shirt slogans. Usage of the term ranges from the humorous to the slightly pejorative. Country-specific terms, such as Japlish or Janglish for Japan, Konglish for Korea, and Chinglish for China also exist. Although Filipino pronunciation of English words sometimes qualifies as Engrish, the communication style commonly known as Taglish refers instead to the widespread habit of mixing English and Tagalog words and phrases, often using both in one sentence in a process known as code-switching.

9. Writers, is there any chance you can stop saying "asian version" when you mean the Japanese version? Asia has plenty of other countries, and it's not like a Chinese person will be able to understand a Japanese game.

Then we have Singapore which also happens to be in Asia where the official language is English.

And then we have Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, etc... All of them speking different languages. There is never a single "asian version" of a game (at least none that I have ever seen).

13. I'd just like to clarify that I didn't accuse anyone of being racist, nor do I think that I was overreacting (although it might have seemed that way).

It's just that I constantly see people referring to "asian" versions of various products, and I have to read the article in detail in order to figure out if they are referring to Japanese, Chinese or some other language.

Fact of the matter is that if you have an "asian" product that supports Singapore, you guys should be happy because it means that it has full support for English. If it's Japanese you are perbably going to have a problem.

So, as you can see, it's an important distinction.

14. Engrish is a valid word that doesn't denote racism, it was a term coined out of necessity that describes funny attempts at English from mostly Asian countries. China has been cataloged extensively WRT Engrish, and with the coming of the Beijing olympics, they actually have teams of experts looking for and correcting public signs.

Sensitivity = -14 please

Oh and AC4 sucks. Save that $17 and put it towards R&C or Uncharted. That's money well spent.

15. @laa: >=[ HEY! I loved Charlie Chan when I was a kid! Don't make fun of a character which actually showed that white people actually WANT to be chinese (just look at the show 'Kung Fu')... but don't know how. Next thing you know, you're going to be putting down Amos N' Andy as being racist!!! >=[ *madmadmad*

@Everyone else: =o ...wow, that's one cheap game! Now, if only I could find EoJ... at all! ='( On a cheerier note: I can beat this deal to death! I just got the 3 movie Spiderman collection on BD for 37.98!!! =D How's THAT for a sweet deal?
(Tip: Moviestop beats ANY price - internet included - so the set came down from 69.99 to 59.99. THEN I took 4 movies to Moviestop (all crap movies, but great condition) and got $20 in credit towards the movies. So with tax, and the fact that I preordered it ($5 down) it came out to a grande total of $33!) =D I love playing let's make a sweeeet deal! =DD

**DISCLAIMER**
I am not a racist, but I love it when the judgemental types make quick assumptions. So please, judge me harshly! Which is why I responded to laa in the way I did. With my tongue planted FIRMLY in cheek! =) If it offends you, especially you over-sensitive white athiestic libral types... TOO BAD! Get a grip on life! Instead of feeling guilty about other peoples, TALK TO THEM INSTEAD!!! You might learn something...
