Lost Planet: the first PS3 screenshots and video

Click for high-resolution image.

So this is what Lost Planet looks like on PS3. Exactly the same as the Xbox 360 version. (It doesn't even run in 1080p!) While many are disappointed that Capcom's PS3 announcement was a port of a once-Xbox 360 exclusive, we're confident that Capcom's multiplatform engine (the one running games like Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5) will make this cross-platform transition a good one.

Or else PS3 fans will have something really nasty to scream about. Check out a video, after the cut.

1. [sarcasm]How exciting![/sarcasm]

I'm going to send Capcom an angry e-mail. :-(

2. After gems like Heavenly Sword and Warhawk, I can't help but think the grahpics in Lost Planet (on either system) are, well, sub-standard. It has nothing on Ratchet and Clank or what I've seen of Uncharted. If Destructoid is to be believed, MGS4 eats this game for breakfast.

I know things usually look a lot better in motion, and perhaps I've just become spoiled by graphically superior games, but eugh, look at the square sides on these monster legs http://www.ps3fanboy.com/photos/lost-planet/447092/

3. This was a great game on the 360. I really enjoyed it! you guys are in for a treat!

4. Great game? Really? Shoot the glowing part of each monster; collect heat energy; repeat.

Lame...I agree with the first two posts.

5. yeah thanks capcom year old games for the win? yeah sure what ever...so thats the last of the announcments? if thats it then joy...my veiw on capcom has yet to change.

6. $40 and no more. Cool that a sci-fi alien shooter coming out of Japan is arriving on PS3, albeit late, but DLC included or not, I won't pay $60 for this. I was even one of the whiners back then about Capcom saying it's not coming to PS3.

7. Idk about this... it looks generic to me...

8. i'm not that thrilled about the game, but i am kinda "ha-ha!"-ing the fact that the xbots lost one of their "exclusives". nice to know that PS3 isn't the only console losing them!

9. Great! PS3 owners won't buy this and Capcom will focus on 360! Thanks cynical Sony Fanboys!

Posted at 1:00PM on Oct 19th 2007 by commariodore64

10. I'll rent it at least because I'm very picky about the games I buy, especially at $60. Capcom did the same thing with RE4. PS2 owners were p*ssed off that they went to the GC first, but then PS2 version got better extras.

11. Just started playing it last night (got it used for $15) - and i gotta say, it's not so bad. Played the online multiplayer before it came out too and that was pretty decent as well. I think people who haven't played this before are in for a treat.

I just doubt I'll rebuy it for PS3 for the extra content - if it was Gears of War I definitely would.

12. The thing is Sony needs to sharpen it's image. Titles that are simply ports don't wow an audience; Especially an audience starving to make use of the touted features that were the foundation of their purchase decisions; Or those that are on the fence waiting to take the plunge.
You can't blame everyone who isn't jumping up and down when they hear this and rushing to make a pre-purchase.

Capcom making this is port is nice and all, but there's nobody to blame but themselves if it doesn't pan out.

P.S. I have no idea what they are up against when they make these ports or develop for multiplatform. I'm not ignoring the difficulties they must be up against and I hope they don't give up taking risks because it's in all of our best interest. However, scrutiny should be used because they themselves are under a microscope.

13. this game isnt even worth a port. I have the 360 version and I never finished the game and more than likely never will.

It plays generic too! If you play Gears and then play this, you want to kill yourself. I for one can't wait to see Gears on the PC!!! I guess it's cool that "Lost" is no longer XBox exclusive, but it's such a bland game...it may as well remain that way. It wasn't worth going to the PC, let alone the PS3.

15. I will probably buy this if its a budget title.
You can get the 360 vesion for about 30 bucks now.
If the ps3 version is full priced, Ill be pissed.

16. I don't know why so many 360 fans were hyping this up the way they did; I remember the huge leadup on joystiq as well, and thought it was going to be a great game. Although not bad by any means, it's not really anything above average, and isn't even as original as Dead Rising, which would be a port worth having. Lost Planet is just another shooter in the end, and if it sells poorly on the ps3 it has nothing to do with ps3 owners, and everything to do with an average game getting ported a year later.

17. solution to this to teach capcom a lesson =/ dont but the game. send them emails on how much they suck for giving us a port instead of giving us an IP hence they took away our DMC and our RESIDENT EVILES =/ so cap com can suck it

19. "how much they suck for giving us a port instead of giving us an IP hence they took away our DMC and our RESIDENT EVILES"

They "took away" "your" Devil May Cry and Resident Evil games?

Since when are those titles not appearing on the PS3?

20. If porting some old 360 games where the art and game design has already been paid for from 360 profits is what it takes for the studios to get familiar with the ps3 architecture, I'm ok with it.

Don't complain when you get games.
