Ratchet and Clank is coming out on the 23rd [Update]

Various blogs and news aggregators have been reporting that Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction may be getting released earlier than expected, with the evidence being recently changed EBGames and amazon.com sales date (to the 23rd instead of the 30th) as well as Insomniac's recent confirmation that R&C has gone gold. We contacted Sony to get the official word, and unfortunately it looks like there is going to be no early release for Ratchet and Clank.

Jennifer Clark, the Sony PR contact for Ratchet and Clank, confirmed to PS3 Fanboy that production is complete and some copies are starting to ship out to retailers now, but that the official release date is still October 30th and won't be changing. She did mention that some a lot of stores may release the game early. So go get your Ratchet on if you can find it.

2. I want the game next week, shame on them.

3. I've never understood release dates. If retailers have them in stock in the infamous 'back rooms' on the 28th, why are they obligated to wait until the 30th?

I imagine there's some kinda financial reasoning behind it, but I've never heard a good argument for it.

4. @3
I think because not all retail locations would have them in sufficient stocks. So I believe it is to promote fair competition so that a store that lucks out in getting it early wouldn't steal revenue from a store that didn't. Who knows...

5. R&C can't come out soon enough, the demo was fantastic. I've never played a R&C game in my life but I will get this game for sure. The demo makes me want to go out and purchase the old PS2 titles to find out what I've been missing out on.

6. Huh... so, that supersedes this? http://www.gaming-age.com/news/2007/10/18-54

I've got mine ordered through Amazon, and they say it's shipping the 23rd as well... guess we'll see in a week.

7. Just a side remark: Conan is out in Europe for a while, and apparently it actually is a decent action game. European PS3 and 360 owners are pretty happy with it, and surprisingly, there's no news of anybody doing any childish noise about any "better" version. It's just like the old days: a lot of people just enjoying a good game :)

8. @mccomber...it says the same thing...SOME retailers may have it early.

9. @7: According to the demo, Conan is garbage.

10. @Deviation
I agree, Conan IMO is absolute garbage. If it is doing well in Europe, that's a shock to me, but I don't count for everybody's thoughts on the game. Like I said though, I totally agree with your thoughts on the game.

11. Time to update this post, the playstation blog says it is coming out next week

Posted at 9:32PM on Oct 18th 2007 by GUNBLADER

12. What's sad is that I really wanted it to be good. They've even got great voice talent and the voice acting sucks. WTF?

Posted at 9:36PM on Oct 18th 2007 by Deviation

13. Conan was absolutely terrible. i played the demo (simply because i play almost all the demos. never know when ill find a gem. Folklore for example.) and it was one of the worst games ive ever played. voice acting was terrible, graphics werent that great, and the combat system was terribly buggy.

anyway, i have my R&C:ToD preordered at gamestop because of the early demo deal. i guess ill be expecting a phone call then. wont get my hopes up too much though.

14. Huh... when I read the post here originally it said that it wasn't coming out on the 23rd, at all. Or at least I think that's what it said. In before the update?

Posted at 2:04AM on Oct 19th 2007 by mccomber

15. @13: Yeah Conan looks like a rushed PC game, they didn't even bother to sync the animations with the voices in the demo. A turd to be sure.

16. The playstation blog is blocked at work...can someone give me a clue as to what it says? Does it confirm that the release date has been moved up to the 23rd? If so, happy birthday to me!

17. I work at Target, and I was checking next week's ad and saw this pictured with an "Available Thurs. 10/25". These dates are almost always a few days behind the actual street date.
