40GB PS3 model with Spider-man found at Sony store

Click for high-res image.

Just like before, the signs are becoming clear: the 40GB PS3 is making its way to America ... soon. Model 98006, or "PS3 40GB Spider-," can be found in the computer databases of Sony's store.Supposedly the system will be in stock on October 28th and will be on sale on November 2nd. We think everyone can make a pretty safe guess as to what movie will be bundled with the system based on the description. The system will retail for $400, as predicted by the internet community. We'll have to wait for Sony to provide confirmation -- which we don't think is too far away at this point.

[Thanks, Andrew H.!]

1. I wish they would get it over with and announce it already. Pretty much every other region has spilled the beans. Why does it take so long here in N.A.?

But the real question is.... How much do you think they'll drop the 60GB one to?

I really want that one as it hits the sweet spot for backwards compatibility. Plus I wasn't a big fan of Spidey 3 :P

2. Uhh.. That sure looks like a Best Buy RSS screen cap to me. Unless Sony also uses RSS.

3. this 40gb model should have been packaged with the R&C:TOD game instead of the spiderman 3 movie. just to show people that its a game machine.

5. "this 40gb model should have been packaged with the R&C:TOD game instead of the spiderman 3 movie. just to show people that its a game machine."

I disagree. Everyone knows a Playstation is a game machine. Not enough people know it's also a Blu-ray player. It's really only us Joystiq FB's screaming "There are no games!"

6. A bundled BD movie retails around $20 so Sony hasn't lost much and pretty much guarantees every buyer experiences BD first hand and understands that the PS3 can play BD movies. I think it was a good decision.

7. This was bond to happen I mean right form the start the PS3 has been using the Same extra font color and all as Spider-man 3,. would be kinda cool if the console had a spider-man look/skin

Posted at 11:48AM on Oct 15th 2007 by Tim Parsons

8. that's a 40gb PS3 packaged with Spider-Man 3 the game. which wasn't as polished as the 360 version.

i don't really want a spider-man skin PS3. i've never really liked the fact they used the same font as the movies, regardless if they own the rights.

especially after the disaster that was Spider-man 3....whenever i see that font i can't help but think "Stupid dancing Parker...Peter was a Douche bag before, during and after that flaming turd fell from space."

but i regress, a 40gb PS3 is a really nice deal (i got a PS2, don't care about backwards compatibility).

9. oh, Spider-man 3 the movie you say? if it comes with that then i'll definitely wait for one with a Dualshock 3. *shudders*

10. @9, have fun waiting. Even Europe isn't seeing DS3 bundles until March. Really though, if you're buying multiple controllers anyway, having a sixaxis won't hurt a damn thing.

11. i will have fun thanks! cuz i'm lookin forward to MGS4 in spring, FF 13 after that! nothing out for PS3 now cept maybe Drake's Fortune...

but that's the case with all my systems: i buy when there's good games and alot of them for a cheaper priced console without kinks. i can never understand early adopters...

Posted at 1:10PM on Oct 15th 2007 by ryano

12. If they can offer this 40GB PS3 with either Spiderman 3 game or movie, for $400, why can't they offer it without the movie or game and with Backwards Compatibility for $400(if thats a Spidey 3 game) or $430 (If that's a Spidey movie)? I don't farting get it.

13. Without early adopters there would be no games for people like you. Early adopters have the satisfaction of knowing they've supported the best machine from the start. Also, you can import the Dual Shock 3 controller starting this December from Japan. I will be picking up two. Oh and for those who say "PS3 has no games", you are living in a cave:

I wish this sterotype of "it has no games" would go away already.

14. As brux2dc and SHOGUN have pointed out. This is NOT from a Sony Store, but a Best Buy inventory screen.

15. Haha! thank you early adopters for giving me games!

i should rephrase myself: there are no games i am interested in.

the DS and Wii have a boatload of games...but are all of them great? no.

TaTa fanboys!
