"Terrain Deformation" is LucasArts' next-gen answer in Fracture

We haven't heard much from Fracture in a while, but we've always had it in the back of our minds as a game to keep our eye on. This new video talks about the main draw to the game, terrain deformation, where you can alter the landscape of the battlefield to your hearts content given a plethora of devices with varying effects. You can see some new footage (on the 360 build), some behind the scenes work, and more or less a big propaganda machine in action (even a military officer is singing praises about the concept).

Worked on us! We won't be seeing this game this year, but early next year we definitely expect to hear more and hopefully we'll be able to get our hands on something. Messing around with the very ground beneath your characters feet may prove to be just what the action-shooter genre needs to reinvent itself.

1. How come there are never any videos of the damn PS3 build?? That's why the PS3 is having sales problems....Because everywhere you look it xbox this, xbox that....Commercials, demo videos always show the xbox version, the commercials always are the xbox version....

2. Man, this is looking like it's gonna be another X360 port. All I saw in every shot was a Microsoft box on the developer's desk.

I bet they don't even touch the SPEs with this game.

3. I don't know why, but this game doesn't do anything for me.

5. meh, I hope thats not the final build. I looks like a PS2/Xbox game.

8. Microsoft has the funds to throw obscene amounts of money at publishers. For example:

Wanna do a commercial for the game Skate available on Ps3 and 360? Microsoft calls EA
MS:"yeah we can get a pro skater and we'll pay for the shoot"
EA: "cool what you want us to do?"
MS: "Nothing, we'll take care of it, by the way, you mind if we show the 360 version?"
EA: "You could show a monkey wearing diapers for all we care, you did say you would get us a spot during monday night football right?"

9. @8
Yeah and where do you think those funds come from? I just got a new Zune from a raffle at an engineering career fair and it has a meager 6 hrs of battery life with everything set to minimum power consumption. And all the while Vista crashes from weird problems which I can only hope will be fixed in SP1 coming out sometimes next year. It's ridiculous how MS spreads itself so thin to cover all their profit bases.

10. The multiplayer for this game is going to be so insane. I hope the buildings and stuff can be destroyed with teraforming. I doubt it though. I expect the limitations will be too much.

13. "I bet they don't even touch the SPEs with this game" - Popfrogs

I was wondering about the same thing. If they don't touch the spe's, it is going to be quite slower than xBox360 which has 3 cores for generic computation, while ps3 has 1 that would execute the same code, if they don't care to make use of SPE's. I am guessing SPE's would really shine on terrain deformation, and I hope they make use of it, which would probably make it faster with less slowdowns compared to Xbox.

14. HEY SONY! LOCK THIS DOWN (i.e. Exclusivity). Not only can the PS3 handle it with the Physx SDK and all, but what you’re looking at here Ladies and Gentlemen is a possible HALO KILLER!

16. not interested at all. it looks way too gimmicky. a next gen 'black' would be far more appealing.

17. "If its on a 360 build why does it say press x to pick up weapon at 2 min 50!?!"

thats an xbox "x" button which dosen't matter because i'm an xbox fanboy, which also dosn't matter cos this game looks shit, looking much more forward to the new starwars game.

18. "great... the world needs another FPS... boring"

Typical defense, and yes it does, when another came out, namely halo 3, sales went through the roof, meaning some people need it! ;P

Hey, you guys outsold xbox 360 better than most other months it seems this months in Japan, which almost feels like Japan is protesting against the 360 because they got bombarded by advertisement and claims about halo 3 from America, and you know Japan feels threatened when America tries to take over the top that Japan been at with consoles since the beginning, maybe that's why it doesn't sell that well in Japan. The 360 is a threat to Japan. Our products are saying that we need them less with our own technology. :O
