Could Solid Snake have been a Plissken clone?

It's never been a secret that Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series was inspired by Kurt Russell's Snake and his exploits trying to escape a few cities, but we never really knew how close those similarities are until now. Aint it Cool News recently won an eBay auction for a previously unreleased and unapproved Escape from L.A. script. The site posted pieces of the script, and it's pretty amazing reading it as you can imagine several parts that could have easily have fit into a Metal Gear game.

Not only does the script describe several characters with super-human abilities, it also reveals that the movie's antagonist clones Snake in an attempt to create the world's most elite soldiers. Yeah shocking, right? Well, he also plans on "removing certain genetic limitations, and retaining the benefit of the memories and experiences of the original subject."

After this revelation, it's interesting to think just how closely the Metal Gear series could have followed Escape from L.A. if this script had been given the green light.

2. I wish i could keep up with the metal gear solid general storyline.

Anybody got a timeline or synopsis or something they could reccomend?

I played MGS1 on the PSX like...YEARS ago and only once, i've mostly forgotten it.

I played MGS2 and freekin loved it...but i've also mostly forgotten it

I got bored of MGS3 half way through and gave up. (Didn't like the jungle style gameplay).

So...anybody reccomend a way for me to catch up/remind myself before MGS4?

3. HAHAHA...very funny.

I actually remember the original Escape From New York. A great movie back then...not so much now..kinda cheesy.

Quiz time:
Where does Snake Plissken land the glider that he glides into NYC(prison zone)?

Ding..ding..ding..
The World Trade Center. Kinda eerie to watch it now...with the WTC gone and all.

5. Take a look at the cover for the NES release of Metal Gear. Snake looks like Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese from Terminator).

9. Any chance Kojima's next venture will be a game adaptation of either Plissken movie? If not, Rockstar could always do it. (a la The Warriors)

Ooh! or an adaptation of Big Trouble in Little China! That is teh awesome.

@2. I can't believe you didn't like Snake Eater, it was by far my most favorite. The gameply was better, the camouflage system was excellent(plus the zombie facepaint!), the graphics were "oh..wow.." worthy (fight with The Boss) and the storyline was bittersweet and engaging. I really think you should give it another go (providing you didn't sell it to Gamestop.)

So...just curious, does anyone know if Kurt Russell will be voicing any characters in MGS4?

10. I second that "No fucking shit"

I thought that the Snake/Snake thing was supposed to be common knowledge.
