Konami assures fans Metal Gear continues, with Kojima

Hideo Kojima loves to tease us. When he wrapped up Metal Gear Solid 3, he said he was done with the franchise -- leaving it in the capable hands of his dev team, while he oversees production from a much farther position than usual. Yet, he returned to the helm to navigate Metal Gear Solid 4 into next-gen seas. He said this would be his last, along with the final title with Solid Snake. However, Konami thinks otherwise.

Konami's marketing VP Anthony Crouts sang a different tune, assuring us Kojima is " ... never going to let go of Metal Gear Solid-trust me. [Snake's] a big character, so as a franchise I think he'll always hold it near and dear to his heart ... In one capacity or another, he will always be involved in the Metal Gear franchise." We personally think both Crouts and Kojima are correct -- Kojima will stick around for more Metal Gear, but will take a backseat to the development. We do think this is the final story for the Solid Snake arc, though. He's getting old, fast. Literally.

2. As much as I love MGS, I hope this is snake's last game. I would also like to see kojima start work on some new franchises.

3. All the talk makes me wonder if Snake makes it out of this game alive. It would be interesting to see Snake ...get a real game over. And it's not like this will be his last game. How many spin-offs are there? We'll see Snake again, of course. This would be acceptable as long as there is not another Raiden game. Let stealth be stealth.

6. #5: Yeah, I'm with you. MGS3 was a departure, filling in more back story. Alligator hat FTW.

7. The VP is saying this while he has someone dressed up like snake hold a gun to kojima's head.

8. from an artistic standpoint, Hideo probably feels that he's said everything that needs to be said and done everything he's wanted to do with the games.

Konami on the other hand obviously thinks there's lots more money to be made.

10. This article post takes it out of context. Kojima has already stated before even though this is his last game, he will still help oversea any future Metal Gear titles from behind the scenes. This is his last one he is directly involved in. From a game developers point of view, why pigeonhole the rest of your career with one title when this guy clearly has other ideas he would love to pursue - its that whole George Lucas syndrome.

11. I read that after he announced that Snake Eater would be his last that he received many death threats. And this was the reason he came back to work on MGS4?
