We don't have to wait until 2008 for rumble, sort of

It's something that happened at TGS we were all a little concerned over. Sure, the DualShock 3 officially exists, but for some reason or other, it's not getting a release outside of Japan until spring of '08. Curious as to why this is the case, 1UP did a little bit of research and contacted Sony for a reason. Sony responded: "Given our production/manufacturing timeline we plan to introduce the new controller in Japan first and then release it in NA/Europe." It's vague, but we don't need to cry out in pain and reach for our pitchforks.

The DualShock 3 will work on our systems if we import them. Sony says there's no reason for them not to work, although some of the games that will require retroactive patches (Resistance, Warhawk) probably won't get those patches until the controller officially releases in our respective territories. But newer games and old PS2 games can get the rumble as soon as you import. As Captain Planet would say, "The power is yours!" A bonus cookie to anyone who recites the Captain Planet theme song.

Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

Gonna help him put asunder

9. awww... and here I thought those folk were quoting from their natural brains...

I'm kindof suck about the rumble "delay". I wanted rumble before xmas, I have to buy another controller because this one is gimpy, with analog left north and south. I'm not going to buy a new controller, without rumble, just to fix this one.

I would love a Japanese controller with rumble, with Japanese start/select etc. as a friend said...

Guess it's time to officially setup that paypal account and import me some controller!

10. "But newer games and old PS2 games can get the rumble as soon as you import."

Too bad Sony has made it difficult for Europeans to import Playstation products from Asia and the US. After Sony's lawyers pounded Lik-Sang into the ground, there are very few import options from the far eas open. Play-Asia is a great shop but they won't ship PS3 products to Europe any more ...

14. I don't see why all the major games (resistance, motorstorm, warhawk) don't offer patches before the controllers get released. Obviously devs have them in their hands already. It'd be nicer to have a pre-release patch than wait until 6 months after the controller is for sale in NA.

15. I was actually thinking about Captain planet a day before this article was posted.

Weird.
