Silent Hill 5 screenshots have nurses, boys, and knives!

It's about that time for Konami to shove out some screenshots for the upcoming multiplatform Silent Hill 5. With the first and third games only available on Sony systems as well as the upcoming PSP Origins title, we're pretty confident this game will make a comfortable splash back into the pool of fans that made it a hit in the first place. What can we say about the new screenshots? Well, they're creepy. The lighting seems to have come a long way, which really is key to the horror element of the games. If light didn't glisten against the fresh blood on the legs of a creepy-ass mannequin, we probably wouldn't be scared at all (sarcasm, friends, sarcasm). No matter how you feel, we know there are plenty of people out there who would really love to see this running on the PS3, but for that, we'll have to wait a bit.

1. SH3 had a PC release too...
Anyway, my hopes aren't particularly high for this game at the moment. The graphics are good, but they certainly didn't have that OMFG factor that had my jaw on the floor the first time I saw SH2. And given the technical increase is much, much bigger from the PS2 - PS3 than it was from the PS1 - PS2, I would be expecting at least that. Of course it's being developed for 2 platforms, so quality is bound to drop.
The gameplay looks stale, as does the premise; a rehashing of elements found in previous games in an attempt to appease fans, rather than trying something new. It looks like it's trying to convince itself it's a SH game.
The problem with the SH series is that it has more fanboys than actual fans, so most won't even notice how bad the series becomes and keep buying regardless.

2. i agree completely with clarkycat's comment. rust, nurses, little kids, we've seen it all before. playing it safe isn't always the best way to go, collective developers.

3. Yes, I will buy regardless :) who cares its SH man ^^

4. Hopefully this generation there won't be as much system hopping or exclusivity so that the PS3 and 360 get them equally. The collective has a tough task on their hands because they're walking a tightrope between pleasing fans and avoiding being cliche and derivative. It looks to be leaning towards the former at least in visual style, however I think it's too little to go on to judge the content of the game based on screens and video of a very small subsection of the game.

5. You could tell that the gameplay is going to be stale just by looking at static pictures, Clarky?

Posted at 10:02AM on Sep 28th 2007 by Tru-blue

6. Nope, I could tell it from the gameplay videos posted earlier in the month.
"The handle is broken. I cannot open the door."
How next gen! A child pushing a wheelchair down a flight of stairs, yawn. Alex giving a Robbie doll to a kid through a set of bars, in a scene a bit *too* familiar with Laura kicking the key away from James in SH2.
Children, nurses, rust, wheelchairs. Oh look, we've made a Silent Hill game!

7. and wait you shall as it is currently being created solely for the 360 right now. later a PS3 port will come out. The Collective just wants something to show Konomi so they'll be happy, and they just can't understand the PS3 right now for the life of them.

but of course none of you wanted to hear that...
thanks for deleting my last post! verrry kind of you!
