It's clear that system sales did not meet Sony's expectations. However, it's premature to declare any system a "winner" or "loser" in a generation that has been in motion for less than two years.

2. Sounds like someone is trying to make a quick buck. That, or he just another short sighted person of this attention deficit generation.

3. Of course it is a failure, so far ,compared to the ps2. DUH. The wii is pulling a ps2 this generation. I for one could not care any less about nintendont and xboob. I can only afford 1 console each generation and I just choose to stay a sony fan. No reason really i just do. So I am a drone? a cow? a sheep? a potato? Not sure about that fanboy lingo. Anyway. I think the ps3 will do just fine. As long as SONY makes some profit in the long run off the the ps3 there will be a ps4. Atleast we wont have to worry about hightech bluray to up the price.
Heavenly sword is going to be heavenly. Heart my ps3
wow. readin over my post I guess i am a little fanboy after all. Oh well. I hope sony sells atleast 25 mil ps3 this generation, but I only needed them to make 1. :)

4. Of course it hasn't failed. None of the next generation systems have. PS3's not even been out a year so I think this is a tad premature.

5. @ #3 Id bet potato....but its okay, im the same way. My wii has been sitting here collecting dust, everybody Votes is the only reason i use it anymore. I dont think it should count as next gen, it should be grouped with last gen.

6. yeah. Sales mean nothing too me. My wii collects dust too. At first its like COOL MOTION SENSORS OMFG, SEX.
then its just like oh.

7. The sad fact that people ignorant to video games conveniently ignore is that the PS3 was built to stand the test of time. Anyone who owns one now is likely a part of the same crowd who adopted the PS2 early on and we all remember how painful it was to play Unreal tournament, Armored Core, and Summoner until the real games started trickling through the flood gates. Let's all sit back and wait for the tools and know how to develop before we start having this conversation.

8. Eh. In Japan, as far as their concerned, the Wii is the winner hands down.

9. I read that the author used to be a supporter for the PS3. It is really hard to respect a guy that jumps ships like that. One thing I like from PS3 fans is the loyalty they have. Me and all my friends who own PS3s all believe that PS3 has just begun its move up.

12. From some of reviewers, it seems that this book takes a look at Sony's internal corporate structure and uses the PS3 as an example of what is wrong with Sony. From what I gather, the author makes a few points which to me, makes little sense (remember, I have not read the book, just some of the comments about the book from those who claim to have read it):
1) It seems that Sony didn't try and go cheap with components, and therefore produced a console which cost too much. (Yeah, no shit!) =D
2) The Cell processor took too long and cost too much to develop, thereby ensuring the console's high cost for some time. (Interesting point, this one!)
3) Hiring women as executives. (=/ Yeah, I suppose that is a really BAD thing!... SHAME ON YOU, SONY!!! =D)
4) Trying to be too different then the competition, which includes the PS2. (=/ Nobody tell Nintendo about this one - they might get all nervous about being so different themselves!)
So, from what I understand - the book is more about Sony then the PS3, and the author dissescts the company. The title, I suppose, is supposed to make people shocked, even though I would think what is between the covers would actually be more shocking! But, whatever. =/

13. fail? win? are you kidding? there are less than 5 million consoles seperating first place and last place right now. last gen, there was a difference of almost 100 million.
this is a very obvious marketing ploy. someone is trying to make a quick buck off a trendy hot topic list.

15. I'm going to make a movie
The Last Xbox
Starring Tom Cruise as the RROD and Rosie O'Donnell as Bill Gates. Ending November 2008.
They are going to come...so I might as well entertain them.

16. Why did the PS3 fail?...
-well it started off with poor sales (like the ps1, like the ps2)
-many people felt the original asking price was a bit high for a gaming console (like the ps1, like the ps2)
-At frist there werent many games available on the console (like the ps1, like the ps2)
-Towards the end of the first year good titles started to apear (like the ps1, like the ps2) [note thease titles are games such as heavenly sword, folklore ect]
-its sales began to pick up when compared to those of the competition (like the ps1, like the ps2)
so its clear the ps3 is domed to go down the horrible firey path of failure just like the ps1 and the ps2 (that is if you consider the ps1 and ps2 failures). oh Sony what crazy thing will you do next?

18. @ rorkimaru
There are 3 key differences between the PS3 now and what happened to the PS1 and PS2.
1. The PS3 launched into and is staying firmly in 3rd place for much of the foreseeable future. This is hugely different then when you launch with practically no competition. It becomes harder to get the exclusives that sell systems.
2. The PS2 sales were better then what the Wii is selling now in it's first year. So the PS3 is selling 1/3 of what the PS2 was selling.
3. PS2 and PS1 had all the best exclusives and now Sony is starting to lose a lot of them.

19. I'm going to copy and paste this thread at the beginning to middle part of next year when games like HAZE, MGS4, HEAVENLY SWORD, FOLKLORE, UT3, KILLZONE FF13, Tekken, and some other games I can't remember come out.. I honestly believe and agree that yes PS3 is off to a slow start but once the train gets moving.. it won't stop.. So patience is a virtue and Sony from my understanding up to this point is thinking long term!

20. And so the Xbox360 is a winner? Isn't Microsoft 2 billion in the hole because of that fiasco?
