Valkyrie of the Battlefield blasts a ton of screens our way

We'd be lying if we said we didn't have high hopes for Sega's latest genre-bending outing, Valkyrie of the Battlefield. The art style is a magnificent step in the right direction for anime-inspired cel-shading and the battle system is, quite honestly, still a bit confusing. That's what makes it so fun, though. Going into a game knowing all the buttons already can get tiring (if you've played one FPS, you know the buttons for 'em all, really). With this breath of fresh air still peeling itself from your lips, let's talk about the new screens, shall we?

After selecting your troops' position via the overhead map, you can take third-person control over them and shoot your enemies into oblivion. It sounds simple enough, but it seems there will be more tactical involvement needed than that: character's seem to have limited weapon selections (which will undoubtedly have greater effect against certain enemy units), vehicles to consider, and environments to take into consideration (you'd want a sniper in a place with tall buildings, not a fountain and trees). That's what we gathered from the scans/screenshots ... that and love. Love is awesome. We'll keep you posted on this game, just like every other game!

1. This game looks really cool and the strategy sounds great. I really like what they're doing with cel, as with this generation they can add subtleties that are much more reminiscent of cel shading and watercolor than we had in the past generation.

2. Absolutely the type of game I bought a PS3 for. All I can do now is sit back and hope it gets translated someday.

3. This game reminds me of Eternal Sonata and I can't wait to pick up that game for my 360 and after seeing more of this game I hope this game will not stay in Japan only. I really want to give this game a try.

4. I'm looking forward to more RPGs (especially tactical RPGs) for the PS3, even though I'm still playing through Disgaea.

6. OMG I love it....it actually looks like a game!

I'm so damn sick of hollywood's current fetish, torture porn, masquerading as games. I hate the uber-realistic FPS games. I don't want to feel like I'm really there, actually shooting people. I want a game!

I love the artistic cell shaded look, it's a cross between a comic book look and an anime movie look. Very nice. I also like the bright aspect of the game graphics, no more dark and dingy here.
