PS3 game delay #3925: The Orange Box

Every time a PS3 game is delayed, a kitten is killed. Please, developers, help save the kitten population of the world and stop delaying PS3 games. It's getting silly. The latest game to fall behind its PC and 360 brethren is Valve's The Orange Box, as confirmed by Gamespot via communication with Valve's Doug Lombardi.

The collection of five Half Life 2 related games will be released "a couple of weeks" after the PC and 360's October 9th date. There has been no reason given for the delay, but we put it down to the PlayStation 3 multiplat curse. Free cookies to the first game that comes out on all systems on the same day. Is that incentive enough for you, publishers?

2. The PS3 version is being developed by EA and not Valve. For the conspiracy freaks, guess who just joined EA?

This game should be played on a PC anyway.

3. The PS3 version of every multi-platform game getting delayed by 2 weeks is all starting to sound a bit too coincidental. I mean what does adding just 2 more weeks to a release date really give a developer or publisher time to do? That’s right; nothing… aside from giving the other platforms (read Microsoft) a head start that is.

4. As a PS3 owner...why do I care when it is coming out on other machines anyway?

5. Yea bud, Blame it on EA... hahahaha
Seems like Every game gets delayed for ps3... WTF
So making it this hard to program for is a good thing!?!?

6. Its starting alot like Microsoft is giving small handouts to a great deal of developers for small delays... A dirty tactic, but a legitimate one none the less

7. Huh, that's odd. By that I mean this is not a surprise since Amazon has had a ship date of 11/13 for some time now.

8. 7: Talk and communicate? Yeah I guess shrill-voiced children screaming racist insults could be considered communication.

9. @Popfrogs

I think it's time people stop saying XBL sux because of little kids screaming. TBH, of all the times played, I have NEVER, that is, NEVER, come across what all you people describe. Playing halo 2 and gears of war on XBL, u find the occasional faggot who insults u nonstop, but i have yet to meet a 12-year old high pitched-insulter. I live in canada right now, toronto area, there don't seem to be much of that, and same as when i lived in the silocon valley..i'm pretty sure u play on XBL with people closest to you to reduce lag..but comeon stop.

ok maybe not never, probably once or twice, but i got over it, there are rude people out there, deal with it ok?

10. #9. Not all live users are 11 and racists. Live has a huge community of users from multiple countries and varied play styles and skills. Its sad that the average fanboy isnt open to all three systems and that the trolls on here allow that belief to live on with there 360 rules comments on a ps3 only news site.

As to the first developer to go multiplatform on the same day..... Does that honor go to EA. Didnt they get Madden out to the masses on all systems same day? Anyone know what the first one was? (360, Ps3, Psp, Wii, Ds same day. what game? what publisher?)

14. Suprise Suprise.

As someone who owns both platforms I had planned on purchasing it for the 360 anyway, quite simply for XBL and the ease of use.

16. I hope that with all the updates that are coming out ThsSHowstopper that Sony network will be up to par with XBL if not pass it! I hope that HOME brings something really next gen to compete because you are right.. But the PSN is making improvements you have to give it that... SLOW but improvements nontheless... Here's wishfull thinking!!

17. Maybe because the PS3 is such a bitch to code for? Maybe because the PS3 has a last gen GPU? Maybe because the PS3 just sucks?! Oh, did I mention lack of games? The fact that Lair and Heavenly Crap got low reviews? And when September 25th rolls around Sony gets A**-raped when Halo 3 sells more than Spiderman 3!!! Glad I sold the PS3 I bought the week after it came out!!!

18. This is getting pathetic?

Kaz Hirai says it gonna take around six years for programmers to fully utilize the ps3's power

Its taking six years just to bring a friggin game out

19. A delay of a "couple of weeks" is usually due to a QA problem. Such as a glitch or bug.

If the delay was due to the PS3's architecture, then I would expect a delay that would push it back into '08.

Quit whining. I've never heard such outcry over a couple of weeks before.

20. This is going to happen every time a game is developed for 360 and ported to PS3.

As much as I'd like to believe in those MS payoff rumors, I don't think this is the case.

Just basic lazyness by developers working on a platform they're familiar with first, then expecting little problems with a vastly different one in the PS3.

I think Sony needs to do something to give developers an incentive to develop concurrently (like more and better dev tools - not cash! :D) instead of this common practice of base development for MS systems, then porting to PS3.
