Loco Roco PS3 video shows off gameplay changes

The first direct feed trailer of Loco Roco: Buu Buu Cococrecho shows off way more detail than the earlier leaked cam footage, and the results are ... interesting. While you couldn't really tell in the first trailer, the gameplay for Loco Roco on the PS3 has changed drastically since it's PSP incarnation.

First off, you don't tilt the world to move your guy around -- one of the defining aspects of the PSP game. Also, you don't directly control the Loco Rocos, instead you control what appears to be one of the flying fruit bugs from the first game and use it as a cursor to direct where you want your Rocos to go. In addition, it appears to be based more on moving around batches of Rocos instead of absorbing them into one giant Loco Roco.

With completely different gameplay, it's going to be interesting to see if Loco Roco can achieve the same following as the PSP one. We should find out soon though, as the game is rumored to be coming out in the next couple months. Any hardcore Loco Roco fanatics out there? If so, what do you think of this footage?

1. I believe this is not really a LocoRoco game, it has been presented as an interactive screensaver.

2. if this game is actually like that then it will happen like with mgs 2 with raiden and without solid snake. people wont like it. if it aint broke just improve it but dont fix it. on a seperate note... go donateblood so you can save people. thank you... oh and use this link to go to viacom and letem have it... your opinion on them going hd dvd neutral...(il put it up soon hold up)

3. Video not working. Neither will download links on the link posted. So unless the new game is going to be a blank white screen then.....yeah.

Oh, and @1: I think the only interactive screensaver is going to be that one minigame for PlayStation Eye that makes your TV look like an aquarium, and the video feed makes it look like your reflection on the tank. Scaring the fish....yeah.

6. Wow

The first locoroco game was instantly understandable, adorable and amazing intuitive and fun.

It had a simple formula that worked well and was damn fun.

This however barely even looks like a game.

/mourn Loco Roco.

7. I was really looking forward to some SIXAXIS tilt control for a ps3 Loco Roco game. this is kinda dissapointing.

10. Why mess with a winning formula. By the sounds of the control method for this incarnation, itsgonna suck a little.

I dont rate it at the moment.

11. Like pretty much everyone else has said - this is nowhere near what we've come to love about LocoRoco. I think the tilting world idea was much better.

I've just had an idea, like in the PSP LocoRoco, you had minigames, you could make the whole PS3 version like that, with just minigames that could be easily picked up and played. You could also have the original LocoRoco on the Virtual PSP in Home and use SIXAXIS to control it, while in the Home environment... THE POSSIBILITIES!

12. I just got the email from the UK PS Store, and here's exactly what they say about this one:

"These great downloads are coming soon to PLAYSTATION Store...

LocoRoco™ Cocoreccho: The loveable LocoRoco come bouncing on to PLAYSTATION 3 in this _interactive screensaver_."

There you have it, it's an interactive screensaver, not a full blown game.
