Oblivion gets a Game of the Year release, this fall

Like all good things that sell over 1.7 million copies in one month, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is getting a "Game of the Year" edition. This one will hit the PC and all consoles (sans the Nintendo Wii) for a simultaneous release this fall. Just like the PS3 version you can buy in stores now, this "Game of the Year" edition will include the Knights of the Nine expansion. In addition, Bethesda's decided to now include the previously unavailable The Shivering Isles expansion. Thank goodness. We were beginning to wonder if Bethesda actually had any plans to make this one available over the PlayStation Network as previously suggested, being that recent news on that front had gone cold.

The PS3 release of Oblivion came a lot later than its Xbox 360 counterpart, but thankfully, stands as a testament to the PS3's capabilities with improved frame rate, faster loading times and greater draw distance. This version will also be compatible with previous game saves, allowing players to pop the "Game of the Year" disc in and continue their questing right where they left off. Pricing details haven't yet been released for this "Game of the Year" edition, but we speculate if the $59.99 price tag doesn't hold, $69.99 sounds about right. Time will tell. So in case you've been living in a cave with your PS3 and haven't yet experienced the gaming bliss of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or any of its two expansion packs, you can't do any better than picking up the "Game of the Year" edition this fall.

1. Hey Pete,

Can I have some of what ever it is you're smoking?

"The PS3 release of Oblivion came a lot later than its Xbox 360 counterpart, but thankfully, stands as a testament to the PS3's capabilities with improved frame rate, faster loading times and greater draw distance."

This only proves that a developer took the additional time between console releases to do a good port rather then a shitty port, it has nothing to do with better PS3 capabilities, as I think they gave the 360 a patch which improved it as well. Besides if Bethesda feels the PS3 is superior why aren't they using it as their lead platform for fallout 3?

2. @2 Realists

Nowhere in my post, did I come right out and say that we, or Bethesda believed the PS3 version to be "superior." My question to you would be, are you smoking something else, making words assemble themselves in the midst of blog posts?

Perhaps you're reading so deeply in between the lines, it's affecting your vision. You should lie down. Take a nap. Relax.

3. heheh, you could've just erased #2 like this forum has done many times for my posts.

but yeah, this should be downloadable content as well. that would be stupid for early buyers to buy another disc.

4. Do you guys know why it is so much quicker on the PS3?
It loads 4GB's of data onto your PS3! For someone like me who has only 18GB's to work with thats alot.

Really fun game though. Sandbox's are so much fun!

5. I'm a happy gamer with my Oblivion copy as it is.
I hope they also release Shivering Isles on the PSN, because that's the only way I'd buy it now.

6. Fallout 3 has to lead on the 360 because they have to develop the game for the lowest common denominator.

7. Agreed with the rest. I will not buy another $60 game just for an expansion.

8. Does oblivion have online multiplayer? I think they have that on the computer versions, not sure though... If it does than I wouldnt mind buying it, its like a mmorpg

9. Oblivion is strictly single player, but the world and NPC's are good enough to make it enjoyable. Unless kids screaming racist insults in microphones is your idea of multiplayer games. ;)

Anyway, yeah, I would buy an expansion from the PSN store but buy the game again just for extra content? Hell no.

10. I don't think there's too much to read into which system plays the game better...they're practically the same.
