Tekken 5 takes it online, kicks your wallet

Here's a tasty bit of news that should have fighting enthusiasts drooling at the mouth, mostly because we've yet to get a great online fighting experience on the PS3. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is going to have an update soon that allows for online play!

In addition to standard fighting online, there will also be online rankings to show off your mad skills. If you haven't played in a while or are unfamiliar with the combo system, the new Practice mode should help get your online ranking up a little faster -- because you'll train and get better.

There's also the addition of Survival mode, adding in yet another option to an already worthwhile purchase from the PS Store. However, these additions aren't free. To get all this stuff tacked on, you may be charged anywhere from 1,000 - 2,800 yen. We're estimating for the Americas that our addition will come around $7.99 - $9.99, but those are just guesses. What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra output for a lot of extra input content?

2. anybody else know why fighting games always have so much lag online? even oldschool street fighter has lag!

3. I'd get that. Although, I'd hope that online rankings are new and that it doesn't sort people out from their existing rankings from Ghost Battle mode.

4. @2...fighting games require split second input timing, unless both players have incredible dedicated servers, there's always going to be slight lag. this is why they didn't include online in virtua fighter 5, they felt it was impossible to have a "correct" game via online.

5. For $5, maybe. This feels like stuff that should have been included from the start though, so it's hard to be excited about paying more for it later on. Hopefully the online play isn't laggy or problem laden, and has lobbies and such... or even just shows your opponent's screen name.

6. Raise your hand if this looks like a technology testbed for Tekken 6.

7. I'm gonna buy it! The Tekken series is the greatest when it comes to fighting games. If anybody feels the same add me w/ tekken online for message. PSN=PointBlank771

8. How did Dead or Alive Ultimate run online on the Xbox?
I think Tekken is a little less precise due to the fluidity of the Combo system so I imagine it may run better than most.

9. I have dead or alive on my 360 and it runs pretty smooth online, I hardly have seen lag. So people who complain about lag on an online game - get a better internet connection. Its not always the servers.
So I cant imagine Tekken having much Lag either, I may give it a try.
