Here we go again with the MGS4 defection rumors ...

We've danced the dance of Solid Snake "defecting" to the Xbox 360 for ages now. Every week Kojima has to fend off more unsubstantiated rumors about Metal Gear Solid 4 deciding to take a multiplatform route, stating time and again that the title was built for the PS3 from the ground up. Anyway, this latest rumor comes from the, oddly enough, Xbox forums, referring to a Swedish magazine called "Super Play" that supposedly confirmed the multiplatformizationism of the hotly anticipated game.

From the translation given on the Xbox forums: " ... sole owners of Wii and Xbox 360 would have to do without [Metal Gear Solid 4]. Fortunately, Konami isn´t completely blind to the fact that more gamers deserve to play this epic title, and it is now confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Xbox 360 will launch a year later in November 2008. It will come with new content additions including VR missions and other bonus gameplay like Snake Tales, which lets you go on more objective-based missions -- some quite lengthy. So, there's no question that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Xbox 360 comes packed with more content than the original PS3-version."

To this we ask, "really?" and tilt our heads coyly. We've been told so many times how it's been tailored just for the PS3 and couldn't be done elsewhere. Yeah, that's PR spin, but we'd like to believe it. Timed exclusives aren't that bad, but giving Microsoft the extra content? Will we be able to download it for free? We're not saying this rumor is true or not, but we're guessing not. Here's why: Super Play is a small, independent magazine. There are no quotes from Konami publishers. This news isn't hitting the internet like a wildfire confirmation. So, to us, it's crap until Kojima nods or dissents. You?

Seriously why do Xbots keep reviving a 6 month old rumor, check the link, its from the same sweedish magizine article, the same goddamn thing!!!!

3. Once again, as long as a game isn't a lousy port from the 360, why do we get SO up in arms over exclusivity? I don't care if the game is out on every console ever made, so long as it's on well done on the PS3. I know I piss people off every time I make that statement, but face it - exclusives are going to become more and more rare. Game budgets have become huge and in order for companies to secure a good return, most will very likely go multiplatform, since currently releasing a title on even the most popular system would only make it available to around 9 million users (the 360 here). Exclusives will probably be quite rare until one console has a HUGE lead over the others, or if each console has a substantial install base.

4. Is anyone seriously going to deny this game receiving a port? I mean look at the history: MGS1 went to the 360 and MGS2 went to the Xbox. I believe MGS3 did not hit the Xbox, because MGS2 didn't do so well on the Xbox, but with the new install base of the 360, wouldn't it be more likely that MGS4 would sell well on the 360? I know I would buy it if they kept the "sneak around in first person and fire in third" instead of the dumb-ass "sneak around in top down view and than attempt to fire in standing still first person" the series has had going for it the past few years.

Oops, I meant Cube.

6. What a load of rubbish. The game on its own wouldn't fit on a DVD let alone extra content! Xbots just stirring the poo again...

8. Triforce, this is the first time out of the 4 games that Hideo Kojima has stated that the game will not be going to other consoles.

And go to that link that the first poster posted. That Swedish magazine is just plagiarizing an old IGN article about MGS2 from 2003. Only changing the year, the name of the game and the consoles it is being released on.

9. That's older than six months. This is exactly the same story for MGS2 Substance!

10. It's funny how much X360 owners must want this game. This rumor comes around every few months.

Don't worry Microsoftians, Kojima will make something for your eventually. Until then you have your beloved Halo3.

13. This so-called "confirmation" is actually a slightly reworded copy/paste of IGN's announcement about MGS2: Substance being ported to the original XBox.

In short, another fake cry for attention.

14. Dont worry. This is 100% fake. It is a guy from a forum in sweden how have made up this. www.loading.se

15. Of course it's fake. Although over at Destructoid, the Xbots there are having a field day because of bad journalism.

16. As much of a non-xboxer as I am, I will say that I believe MGS4 will pull an MGS2. It will come to PS3, have it's day in the sun, and once all the hype has subsided it will appear on 360, but without a huge welcome or hype. I remember hearing about MGS2 being on xbox almost a year after it came out. If a game like that launched almost silently on a competing console and I didn't hear about it, then it must not have been a big deal.

The issue here is that MGS4 is a PS3 system seller, so if it were to be announced as 360-too, then those with 360's and not PS3's would just wait it out instead of getting PS3's. I think MGS4 will eventually be on 360, but without a whole lot of extras(that can't be DL'ed from PSN) and once the hype has subsided greatly.

THEN if there EVEN IS another MGS game, it'll be PS3-only. Just like MGS3.

17. also consider the massive size of the game. he is complaining about 50gig limit. think they will add more to get it on 360?

18. IGN.com - March 5, 2003 http://au.insider.ign.com/teasers/388/388211.html

At the end of 2001, one of the biggest titles to be released for any of the current generation consoles was Metal Gear Solid 2. As the follow up to the blockbuster smash hit PSX title Metal Gear Solid, it went on to sell extremely well and be played by many PS2 fans. However, sole owners of GameCube and Xbox would have to do without it. Fortunately, Konami wasn't completely blind to the fact that more gamers deserved to play the epic title, and it released Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for the Xbox a year later in November 2002. This came with new content additions including VR missions and other bonus gameplay like Snake Tales, which lets you go on more objective-based missions -- some quite lengthy. So, there's no question that Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance comes packed with more content than the original MGS2 on PS2.

Swedish print magazine Super Play - May 27, 2007

At the end of 2007, one of the biggest titles to be released for any of the current generation consoles is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. As the follow up to the blockbuster smash hit PS2 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, it will problably sell extremely well and be played by many PS3 fans. However, sole owners of Wii and Xbox 360 would have to do without it. Fortunately, Konami isn?t completely blind to the fact that more gamers deserve to play this epic title, and it is now confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Xbox 360 will launch a year later in November 2008.
