Thank you, Pelican PS2 to PS3 adapter

If you were unfortunate enough to sell your PS2 before reading about the failed attempts to play the original Guitar Hero on PS3, you aren't alone. In fact, upon first hearing the news of this little gadget, you probably jumped up for extreme joy and knocked yourself out on a low-hanging ceiling fan. Jeesh, be more careful! Now, we've all been patiently awaiting this very product since it was known to be in the works since November. Thanks to Pelican and their beautiful PS2 to PS3 adapting magic, we can finally rejoice, hold our original Guitar Hero controllers high, and rock ourselves out silly.

See, some of us actually made the tragic mistake of assuming everything would be fine, without bothering to physically check adapters or reading any news about incompatibility. And so, with rage-like Hulk powers, we may very well have smashed everything in our living rooms when we realized the horrible, staggering truth. While most of our audience was probably savvy enough to avoid this type of disastrous end, we were stubbornly unwilling to part with this cherished product that literally, brought us tears of joy. Yes, tears of joy. Game on, beautiful rock stars of the gaming world. Game on.

1. Sorry, maybe I haven't had enough coffee this morning and cleared the webs off of my head... but I don’t get…

...Soooooo does it work. Can I buy Guitar Hero and this and play it on my PS3?

Posted at 1:55PM on May 10th 2007 by BrokenFern

2. no, it doesnt work with Guitar Hero or Guitar Her 2. There are many issues with this, and there are plenty of forums that discuss the issues with this.
So in all, this article is bad, as there is still no adapater to work properly with Guitar Hero ;(

3. WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE to make one. Pelican says it doesn't support rumble, soooo.....might as well wait and get a fully functional adapter.

4. Hey but real guitars can be plugged into ANY amp and chicks dig that more.. girls > guitar hero.

Posted at 2:32PM on May 10th 2007 by KillarClown

5. Saying it doesn't work is an overstatement. It "does" work but with limited functionality.

Posted at 2:37PM on May 10th 2007 by RodneyP

6. ok maybe im not getting this story but ive been playing GH 1 since the last update sony made, its just that the whammy bar doesnt work, but aside from that its works fine, with any usb/ps2 adapter

Posted at 3:13PM on May 10th 2007 by pompy3

7. SOLD! I'll take it without the wammy bar.

Is it in stores now?

Posted at 3:48PM on May 10th 2007 by BrokenFern

8. Yea I picked one up before I heard anything, biggest waste of 15 bucks ever. Its an untested piece of crap. Once you actually figure out how it is your supposed to get the buttons to actually work, its delayed by a second, so you have to hit the notes before they come. And to actually hit notes for example, the "green" chord button is only active when you are strumming. You can't hold it ahead of time. So it just is more of a pain. I would rather just play it on PS2 anyways. Thanks for nothing Pelican.

9. lol @ killarclown! You are so right man.

Also coming from a guy who can actually play REAL guitar pretty well (Trust me I can), when i see people playing guitar hero it makes me laugh cos they look like fools. Or some baby playing with one of those toy guitars where you press a button and it plays a melody.

Playing real guitar aint that hard if you got half a brain and some rhythm! You could at least just learn some basic chords - most chicks wont know the difference!

10. If by "limited functionality" you mean doesn't work at all.
Then you are correct.

11. Guitar Heros Adapter.... $14.95
Guitar Heros II Game.... $79.99
Playing Guitar Heros on my PS3... WORTHLESS!

I purchesed all this stuff today during lunch...
... now after reading these and other reviews on different forums, I'm gonna return it all and wait for GH3.

13. i don't know what people are bitching about... i bought this adapter and it works fine with my PS3. Once you set it up right. Make sure you switch it to GH2 if you are playing Guitar Hero 2... Everything works fine, including the whammy.

16. For those that are curious, the adapter DOES work with windows. Makes for a nice game controller for those that enjoy the ps2 controller feel.

FYI, I'm using the nyko i-type2, whose keyboard also works fine in windows :)
