New Harry Potter screens put the PS2 back in the PS3

With a new movie and a new book hitting this Summer, Harry Potter mania is in full swing. Taking advantage of that momentum, EA released 3 new screens to the muggle world today, including one from the game's climatic battle with "he who must not be named." While we were mildly excited by the trailer, our hope has been dashed by screens that look like they're from a mediocre PS2 release (at best). Of course, EA knows that they don't have to put their best foot forward here... anything with the Harry Potter label is going to sell well.

1. And that's why EA is complete shit.

2. Ive never understood the appeal of harry potter. The movies were incredibly dull and the books, even worse. Anyways, I cant imagine playing a game based off it.

3. Agree with #2.

4. The books aren't bad. The movies aren't great. The games... I won't even try them.

5. While it's certainly not a new benchmark for game graphics (and considering the fact that they choose which screens to release to the press, they picked some pretty poor examples), how exactly do shots like the one below qualify as "screens that look like they're from a mediocre PS2 release (at best)."?

Watch the 360/PS3 trailer for the game. For a movie cash-in from EA, it doesn't look too bad.

6. @Strike man...

That image is scary awful. There is no depth or detail in it. I'd expect loads better if I had a PS3 (I will...someday).

Sadly it is a reflection of very poor work by EA and not a reflection of the PS3. Sony shouldn't allow this crap to even be put on the machine.

7. I happen to like the book, it's quite good. the movie is terrible, due to neither of the trio actors can act to save their lives.

the games are unspeakable, it almost borderlines painful.

8. "That image is scary awful. There is no depth or detail in it. I'd expect loads better if I had a PS3 (I will...someday)."
Correct, today's systems are capable of much more, no argument from me on that one. My comment was directed more towards those who may have taken the "PS2-quality graphics" comments literally.

9. The Harry Potter has a lot of potential, but all of the games arent made as well as they could be because EA know they will sell because of the franchise's popularity.

What I would like to see a game of is Heroes, I loved the story line of Chrono Trigger, the time travel is what really did it for me, likewise Heroes has a lot of potential, as it already has a good story involving time travel. If I could pick a developer for a Heroes game, it would be Naughty Dog. Uncharted Looks Awesome and a Heroes game would look good on the same engine.

It would love to see Sony get the licence Exclusively and get Naughty Dog to make it as their next project.

Anyone Else think this would be a good idea?

10. Oh hell yeah Sam! And then we'll make one about TimeCop and Bill and Ted and Back to the future part 3 and and and.. OMG i'm just wet myself over all this time travel!

Also, you shouldn't bank bad graphics on a franchises popularity.. ruining someone else's shit just looks bad on you, EA.

11. Don't worry there were plenty of games for the 360 that made it look like Xbox1.

Posted at 10:04AM on May 1st 2007 by Arno

12. sam evans thats too ambitious, there is no way they could get you to do Hiro's time travel in a video game. You'd have to play as all the shitty characters, like Nikki, which would just be a rip off of the incredible hulk.
