box art

It's a slower week than we've seen in a while for our new bestest friend, Mr. Blu-ray. Only three new Blue-ray movies this round (but many, many more on the way). Let us know what you're watching this week. A Scanner Darkly gets my vote...

Blu-ray Movie Releases

  • Payback: Straight Up

As always, availability is subject to manufacturer delivery.

1. Just finished Scanner Darkly on my Palm, good movie...Not convinced you need HD to experience it though.

2. A Scanner Darkly was awesome, but I already own it on DVD so no BluRay purchase for me.

3. Everything is worth it if you can afford it and you desire it enough isn't it? It is all relative, what someone spends for something they desire, someone else thinks it is a waste of money!

4. how much are bluray movies? Are they worth the price?

Posted at 8:01PM on Apr 7th 2007 by thatpspkid

5. Even though several sites list Blu-rays at over $30 or $40, I have never payed more than $25 for one. You just need to know where to look.

6. what the hell?...again if you don't know the link between blu-ray and ps3 then by all means don't buy or sell your ps3..

Games?..I can name about 10 upcoming games I want for the ps3 all exculives...if you have to rely on sites like this don't deserve a ps3

and one last thing stop telling everyone what you are not going to do
"A Scanner Darkly was awesome, but I already own it on DVD so no BluRay purchase for me."

For the love of god if you don't want to do something then don't...why do we need to know about it?

8. Except that this blog is about the *GASP* PS3, and being a FEATURE of the PS3 id say that HD Movie releases is fine by a site promoting the PS3.

Blu-Ray is in the PS3 i watch blu-ray movies on my PS3, you need to shut your word hole, and stop coming here if you are going to cry about a small article stating what blu-ray movies are coming out this week...

On a second note: A Scanner Darkly will looks leaps and bounds better than the DVD version seeing how the entire movie is all digital, you will get a MUCH cleaner animated look with very sharp distinctions between the coloring. who cares that i have it on DVD already.. it was 15 bucks... im buying it on blu-ray, because... i can afford what ever the hell i want.

9. I like that we get a weekly sorting of new blu-ray discs, because *gasp* that's part of why I, and many other people, bought a ps3. Yeah I like hearing about the games, the rumors, the opinions, the straight-up bs... but I also like a quick roundup of "hey, this Tuesday, the following movies are available on the PS3's most favorite format." Since so many of the titles are indeed previous DVD releases, it's not like with the new ones where we get a media blitz about what's coming out.
If people don't like it, they can do like we do with 99% of the internet, and skip the article. If some of you are honestly pissed off and upset about the posts, well that is one of the most ridiculous things to be getting your knickers in a twist about, isn't it?

10. damn you're a bad ass kira!! comin on here telling us to shut our word holes and gloating that you can afford whatever you want!!

People are just pissed because we log on here every week and its always lots of blu-ray movie releases, but very very rarely a game release.

WE have every right to be pissed, we bought a GAMING SYSTEM.

Posted at 2:31PM on Apr 8th 2007 by scott

11. the PS3 is not a gaming is not a gaming system it is a multimedia center where: Music, Video, and Gaming are all in one system. My uncle got the PS3 for the only reason of a cheap bluray player. He hates gaming but loves HD movies. So if all you do is gaming than find a hobby till games come out. the xbox 360 took about a year before games came to it. I am tired of people complaining. here is a great idea WAIT and BE PATIENT games will come, but for right now enjoy HD movies.

12. So you'd like those of us who just spent ~800 on our machines to "wait a year" Andrew? Nice logic! I bought a ps3 because of the games, I could care less about blu-ray. Seems I made a terrible mistake since only movies appear to be coming out.

13. scott if you're not interested in Blu Ray releases don't read that part of the aint rocket science!

14. Time, I think you need to take a pill. I was simply commenting on the article. Like I said, I thought A Scanner Darkly was a good movie, but I don't feel the need to purchase it again. If you don't like that, I'm sorry, but take your whining elsewhere.

Posted at 9:10PM on Apr 8th 2007 by deathtrap

15. Those of you complaining about the lack of games need to remember that you bought a console AT LAUNCH. I think the reason it sucks so much is that we all know what games are on the horizon (or keep getting delayed) so it's that anticipation that is killer.
If you've got an HD tv, enjoy the fact that you can play bluray discs. If not, and you don't want to buy a 360 to play whatever games you think you're missing now, then wait. Not like we have much choice, but at least we're waiting for some great games that we KNOW are coming.

Posted at 11:30PM on Apr 8th 2007 by mccomber

16. lol @ scott
yeah i could care less about a PS3 blog talking about blu-ray... im not the one crying about it and complaining that theres not more info about games...

this isnt IGN or Gamespot... it doesnt cater to ONLY to ps3 games...

If you so hard up for games... maybe you SHOULD go buy some blu-ray movies to hold you over till some come out that you like. instead of coming here bitching about it.

If youre gonna be a gamer... act like one. instead of spending time on the internet talking crap about a blog that you probably visit twice a day regardless of the type of news thats being reported.

or you can go play:

Enchanted Arms
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Virtua Tennis 3
Armored Core 4
The Godfather: The Don's Edition
College Hoops 2K7
Def Jam: Icon
NBA Street Homecourt
Major League Baseball 2K7
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
Formula One Championship Edition
Virtua Fighter 5
Sonic the Hedgehog
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
Full Auto 2: Battlelines
Fight Night Round 3
Need for Speed Carbon
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Cash Guns Chaos
Ridge Racer 7
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
Blast Factor
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire Nov 17, 2006
Madden NFL 07
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
NBA 07
Resistance: Fall of Man
Call of Duty 3
Genji: Days of the Blade
Tony Hawk's Project 8

not the BIGGEST selection yet... but there should be enough to keep you away from here.

17. "I realize that 360s don't have a built in HD player like we do, but they still built one. Do you see flagging "Payback" and "Scanner Darkly" in HD-DVD around?"

The only reason you don't see it is the simply sad number of movies released on the format. They do it when there is a title though:

18. lol at ps3 owners argueing over their consoles and what topics should or shouldn't be posted. it's bad enough that some of u try to bash us 360 owners, but thats not enough, u have to bash each other! pathetic...

Posted at 12:25PM on Apr 9th 2007 by spamsphen

19. not quite mccomber, 360 owners see a steady stream of new releases for 360, while we ps3 owners get nothing week after week. Everyone kept saying "wait until march!!", and I did, and I'm still horribly disappointed.

20. "not quite mccomber, 360 owners see a steady stream of new releases for 360, while we ps3 owners get nothing week after week. Everyone kept saying "wait until march!!", and I did, and I'm still horribly disappointed."

Well, that's the part of buying a new console that sucks. Now it's the "wait until Fall!" bandwagon that we've all been told to jump on. I can't honestly say that I haven't been thinking about picking up an xbox lately, but I don't see so much on it that I really think is worth it right now. The second they start including wifi or drop the price though, I'll probably pick one up, but at this point I'm looking at minimum another $500 for a 360 with the accessories I want for it that already come standard on the ps3.
The ps3 is about buying into what is coming in the future, and I don't just mean ubisoft's ports of 360 titles. There are several great titles that are coming, and I'm as frustrated by the delays and promises as anyone else. I just keep in mind that part of having a launch system means that your AAA titles are usually about a year out, and until then you have to play what you get. I know I'll get to play Lair, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank and FF13 no matter what happens. All of those are shaping up, or already obviously are, huge titles.

Is the grass greener on the 360 right now? Yeah. Was it then? Well...
How about delays?
Again, yes, it sucks. But, it's also part of the new console experience. If the ps3 is indeed around for 10 years as Sony is saying, I'm sure that we'll have plenty of weekly crap releases in the future.

And oh yeah @21, I spoke to soon. Here's the post for those two movies you mentioned specifically:
