Someone does a recap for us -- positively stunning

Sometimes this webpage can look like a hodgepodge of news -- random previews, bad news, slighty unrelated articles, and positive press. Well, Thomas Barton has done the smartest thing possible and took every piece of positive press that had been covered here at PS3fanboy and wrote up a feature. The feature covers everything from new pieces of hardware that have been revealed (the PS3mote new eye-toy peripheral), to quotes from third party developers and other big names in the electronics business.

It's a very nice read to recap everything we have to look forward to, or to understand that we shouldn't be too afraid -- the PS3 is going to be fine, even if it takes a year or two. Even if it's getting pieces modeled after the Wii or XBox Live, that doesn't mean they are bad ideas. Would you rather have a laser cannon (Wii), an army (XBox Live), or a cyborg army equipped with laser cannons (PS3)? Taking the best from all systems is smooth, though admittedly slightly dirty. Check out the article and remember why the PS3 is worth our casual nod of approval.

[Thanks to James for bringing this to our attention!]

1. "Taking the best from all systems is smooth, though admittedly slightly dirty."

Slightly? Slightly?? It's shameful. It shows a complete lack of imagination, an incredible amount of laziness, no creativity and no genuine interest in games on Sony's part.

2. No, I disagree. It's the nature of the business. One of the advantages of releasing the system late is to be able to 1up your competitors.

In all honesty, would you buy a product that makes it on the shelves later and costs more but doesn't even live up to, let alone surpass, the competition? The business world - in all aspects, from the service industry to consumer electronics - is about action/reaction. You act. Your competitors react. And the cycle continues. That's how businesses survive.

Saying that it shows "a complete lack of imagination, an incredible amount of laziness, no creativity and no genuine interest in games" shows just how little you know about business and the industry. Your idealism is laudable, but for everyone else who lives in the real world, it's just not relevant.

Anyways, I'm glad that someone's able to see through the smoke and mirrors and separate the facts from the opinions. I, for one, have faith in Sony's foresight. We all seem to be forgetting that Sony is one of the seven media conglomerates. In that respect, you could say they're more powerful than the almighty Microsoft. I'd say they have more sway as to what format will come out on top than most people give them credit for. And if Blu-Ray does take off, then everyone and their mothers would be scrambling for a PS3. Even if someone don't play games, I'm sure they watch movies.

Of course, you could debate whether or not Sony is pushing the technology too fast too forcefully, but that's ultimately up to the consumers to decide. It's a risk, no doubt, but I'm sure it's less of a risk in Sony's eyes compared to yours and mine.

3. "incredible amount of laziness, no creativity and no genuine interest in games"

That's Sony is it?

You'll cringe at statments like that when you've left school.

Yeah if putting great ideas into a product is shameful and thus I'm guessing not worth purchasing can you really own anything that's been made since well the beginning of time? Come on who cares if the PS3 has something that acts like the Wiimote? It's a freakin' cool idea! That's why everyone is excited about the Wii. Certainly since Sony isn't making that controller standard fewer games will take advantage of it but the possibility is there to have a really cool game that used the Eye Toy Wand!

Besides in the end if Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all make killer games then isn't that good for everyone? Frankly I don't want any company to fail since it makes for good competition and gets new ideas out there much faster than if just Nintendo or Sony ruled the market.

5. Actually, the PS3 controller nothing like the Wiimote. It's more like the nunchuck attachment. Tech that's not new, seeing as it was used w/the Gameboy Color, GBA, etc. Think Warioware.

Oh, and Vince...two things. Yes, that's Sony. And two, it's spelled 'statements' with an 'e'. You'll cringe from errors like that once you're out of jr. high.

6. Thank's for pointing out my spelling error.
When I passed O level English in the eighties I was sober, unlike late last night when I became mildly annoyed at your irrational comments.
I know you'd rather Sony died and handed the monopoly back to Nintendo again as if somehow that would make gaming better for everyone, but Nintendo only have themselves to blame for their fall from grace, you can blame Sony if you like, I'm sure you do of course, for all the wrong reasons.

7. Sony must be enjoying the life of being a copycat.

8. Copycat?? hmm I almost forgot that the Playstation has been out on the market since '95... they must have been ripin ideas away from everyone for the last 11 years!! Your an idiot...

9. I agree that copying your competitor is part of any business. You can look at Microsoft v Apple or Microsoft v Google for evidence that it happens all the time. However, IMHO, the copy must improve on the original. Will the new PS3 controller be as well supported and calibrated as the Wiimote? Will Sony's online expirience be better than Xbox Live? Only time will tell.
