Valkyrie of the Battlefield gets western release

For the uninitiated, Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy RPG that incorporates the "BLiTZ" battle system. "BLiTZ" takes a unique twist on the traditional turn-based system by injecting bits of real-time movement and actions. As much of a paradox as that may sound, it really does makes sense once you see it in action. The game's gorgeous imagery is probably what gamers have noticed most about the game; the artistic style is brought out by SEGA's CANVAS engine which is said to take full advantage of the PS3's processing capabilities.
The game is set in a fictional world, and follows the story of a soldier named Welkin. The major conflict is a familiar backdrop with two huge forces waging war: "The Empire" and "The Federation." A smaller neutral country named Gallia, has the most unfortunate position of being right in between these two huge factions. What will happen as a result of this? We don't know, but we're certainly curious. Be assured, we'll be keeping a close watch on this one.
New Valkyrie of the Battlefield tutorial trailer
Valkyrie of the Battlefield images are beyond expectations

We see some new characters in these pictures and what appears to be the valkyrie of the battlefield. Of course, it may just be our overactive imaginations. Sega, please. No more Sonic. Focus on bringing stuff like this over. We'd all be very proud!
See the story behind Valkyrie of the Battlefield
If we were fluent in Japanese, this new Valkyrie of the Battlefield video would probably make a lot more sense. As it stands, we're left with looking at the game's gorgeous visuals and making lame attempts at trying to understand what's going on.
Going on just what we can see in the video, it appears that the East Europe Empire Union and the Atlantic Ocean Federal Organization are fighting over rights to mine a mineral called Ragnite. Caught in between is Gallian, a country to the west of the East European empire and possibly the source of Ragnite. It looks as if it will be up to you and your "rag tag" group of countrymen to overthrow the invaders and bring the land back to peace.
Valkyrie of the Battlefield has best collector's edition ever
Not only will you get a copy of the PS3 exclusive strategy game AND A TANK, you'll also get A FIGURINE of the main character, Alicia. That's not enough?! THERE'S STILL MORE! In this special limited time offer, you'll also get a FREE GUIDE BOOK! All this for a low, low price of 9980 yen!
Seriously, the goodies that Sega has come up with for this game's special edition puts other collector's bundles to shame. Each premium looks exactly that -- premium. Unfortunately, there's no US release scheduled yet, but the Japanese will get their hands on this primo set at the end of April.

Valkyrie of the Battlefield still looking amazing
If you haven't realized it already, we're pretty big fans of Sega's upcoming strategy game Valkyrie of the Battlefield. In the newest video that's been released, it appears to show pieces of the game's opening cinematics and other gameplay footage that shows the game's unique twist on the strategy genre. While there's been no confirmation that the title will head to the West, it just looks so damn beautiful that we're continuing to hold out hope.
Valkyrie is developed by Sega's Overworks studio, the same guys who brought us Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, The House of the Dead and Skies of Arcadia. With such a legendary list of games up its sleeve, we just can't help but be entirely confident that its newest title will have awesomeness in spades.

TGS07: Valkyrie of the Battlefield shows watercolors are still cool
Sega kicked off the cel-shading revolution with Jet Set Radio, but now the company is pushing the technology even further by using it to create gorgeous watercolor-theme graphics, which its calling Canvas. It really does look like a painting has come to life.
While we would have loved to see some actual gameplay, there's no denying the game looks great. Let's just cross our fingers that Sega decides to ship this baby worldwide.
