Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will arrive this year, says Capcom producer

PS3 fans haven't heard any news in regards to Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix in a long, long time. Xbox 360 owners had a chance to participate in the beta, but it was plagued with problems that were never fixed, if that makes you feel any better. The lack of news has lead some to conclude the game has been delayed; but fear not, in an interview with The Street Fighter Blog, associate producer Rey Jimenez reveals the game is on track for a 2008 release. "We're on track to release the game this year and barring any unforeseen catastrophic event, that should not be changing." He also told SF fans to expect an announcement of the exact release date shortly.

Other elements covered in the interview range from the possibility extra characters via DLC (not happening) to whether the fighters will have their original colors selectable (yes, they will be). The entire interview can be read here.

Capcom releases Commando 3 to PSN one week early, teases Street Fighter 'cool stuff'

Some PS3 fans were angry at Capcom when they announced Commando 3 on XBLA will include a free beta for Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix ... but not on PSN. In Capcom's attempt to prove their loyalty to the PlayStation community, they're releasing Commando 3 on PSN one week before the XBLA version. That means ... today.

With the addition of Commando 3 to today's lineup, this is going to be one of the best (and most expensive) Store updates ever. The downloadable title will be available for $10 when it launches in but a few hours.

Also, Capcom's John Diamonon promises PlayStation fans that there will be some "cool stuff" for PlayStation fans of Street Fighter. What that entails, we don't know quite yet ... but it may very well be the key to earning some street cred amongst PS3 fans (read: this bonus better not be another port of Lost Planet).

Re-balancing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

Heresy! Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will rebalance a few of the characters from the original game, and many fans have been angry that such a classic is being altered. In an interview with GameCyte, Backbone Entertainment's David Sirlin explains why they're rebalancing the game, and how he hopes not to disappoint the hardcore by doing so. He doesn't want to change how the game plays. Rather, he wants matches between certain characters to be more evenly balanced. Will he succeed? He better, or else a mob of angry Street Fighter fans are going to spin kick him to oblivion.

Looking forward to Beta testing Street Fighter II HD Remix on your PS3? Capcom says it's not going to happen. Instead, Beta test privileges are going straight to Xbox Gold subscribers when they purchase Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. Don't feel too bad fellow PSNers, the Beta is only an eight week trial of a reworked gaming classic -- a 1080p widescreen remake to be exact. It's absolutely not a reason to storm into town with torches. Absolutely not.

But hey, everything that's got a downside has an upside. To keep you from feeling down out of luck about missing the Beta, we've got tons of media for you to check out. Such as these screenshots down below. Wow, they're sho-ryu-ken good. Yep, sure looking good, had to repeat that just in case you didn't get the play on words there. If you didn't get to see the pics from Joystiq earlier, then have a look at them now. Otherwise, check out the four gameplay vids we have waiting for you after the break.

Sob, sob ... it's quite unfair that we're not getting a Beta on our side of the console pond. Oh well, the game is expected to come out later this year and so it won't be too long before we kick it old school. While the Xbox gamers enjoy their Beta, we'll be stuck watching that purple Street Fighter VHS tape again and again. You know, for nostalgia's sake. Come on, you know you have one buried in the closet somewhere. Dig it up!

Video: Capcom unveils Street Fighter 4

In addition to announcing a PS3 version of Lost Planet, Capcom has unveiled a brand new game: Street Fighter 4. Street Fighter 4, as you've guessed, is a brand new iteration to the classic Capcom fighting series - the first new Street Fighter in ten years. The game is over a year away, and no gameplay footage has been shown so far. Capcom's other fighter, Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, has been delayed to 2008 as the team has been trying to reduce lag time on the game's online offerings.

The trailer above doesn't mention which platform(s) it will eventually end up on, but we're going to remain hopeful that Capcom will bring it onto the PS3. We've already watched the trailer multiple times - extreme violence + inky aesthetic = guaranteed repeat watching.
