What is this Sonic Unleashed trailer missing? 2D
Download to PSP
Remember when people were cautiously optimistic about Sonic Unleashed? Finally, we thought: a return to Sonic's 2D roots. None of this crazy mascot 3D nonsense! Well, looks like Sonic Team is up to their old (not not so old) ways: this new trailer for Sonic Unleashed includes tons of 3D platforming sections, brawling areas (with combo meter) and almost zero 2D gameplay. Are you still excited for this?
This is what Sonic being 'Unleashed' looks like
New details on Sonic Unleashed: nighttime stages, Werehog Sonic
The most striking details come from the day and night gameplay. Nighttime stages, the time when Sonic transforms into a Werehog, will appear in some stages as both real-time day-to-night changes and also fixed night or day stages. One last tasty morsel is info on a demo: "Yes, the current plan is to release a playable demo shortly before or right around release." There's a lot more info to read up on at the Joystiq interview so go read it up!
Sonic races through new Unleashed trailer
This new Sonic Unleashed gameplay trailer looks... awesome. It has all the makings of a 90s great Sonic game -- speed, color and more speed. The stage design is classic Sonic and the visuals look gorgeous. Can this be the Sonic game to revitalize the aging franchise? After the glitches and control problems with Sega's last attempt on the PS3, did we run out of optimism for the beloved blue video game icon? We're keeping our fingers crossed.
Little bit of new Sonic screens unleash big impressions
Hey folks, we've got new images of
Whatever it is that makes us think this way, the association is nevertheless a positive one. We're definitely keeping both titles on our radar for good reason. Sonic's a bit tougher to keep watch on though ... he's just too fast. Har har har. Just check out the gallery already.
Sonic Unleashed is really real
Sonic Unleashed was accidentally ... unleashed to the gaming world, and videos and screenshots from Sonic's upcoming outing spread through the internet like wildfire. Well, Sega's finally admitting that Unleashed is real, and it's coming to PS3 (and Xbox 360, Wii and PS2).
The world has apparently been shattered into pieces by Dr. Eggman, and once again, Sonic must save the day. A new night and day system will have the hedgehog take on a new menacing form -- one that could also consume Sonic.

Possible Sonic Unleashed gameplay video
In the video, we see Sonic race through a sandstone town and a jungle-like area. Both places have been seen previously in the leaked screens. As far as we can tell, the level design is looking good, and this might mean that we could be seeing a worthy current-gen Sonic game. That is, if it is real ... and most of all, coming to the PS3. We're crossing our fingers on both accounts.

SEGA's first quarter of 2007 release schedule
You know you want it, so here it is: SEGA's first quarter of 2007 release dates. There are a lot of hotly anticipated titles here. Even though Sonic got pretty sour reviews, we're still excited to at least move really fast. When these new games start launching, we'll even begin reviewing titles. Won't that be exciting? Anyway, here's the schedule:- Sonic - 1/30/07
- Virtua Fighter 5 - 2/20/07
- Virtua Tennis 3 - 3/20/07
- Armored Core 4 - 3/??/07
There are other titles that aren't specifically PS3 titles, but really, we're just going to focus on the PS3 releases for now. You'll notice Armored Core 4 doesn't have a set date for launch in March. Hopefully that changes and not for the worse. There is a pretty big gap between VF5 and VT3 -- maybe SEGA is waiting to hear the European launch date and will release AC4 upon that. Maybe not. Whatever, SEGA, just keep making good games... and tell us if you plan to release a PS3 version of Phantasy Star Universe, with graphics upgraded to PC-quality (which are much, much smoother). Bah.
Sonic for PS3 delayed -- it's like rain on your wedding day
Did we seriously just quote Alanis Morissette? It seems so, but think about it: Sonic, a very very fast hedgehog, is delayed... so, so, so, he's got to like, slow down. Isn't it ironic, don't you think? Ahem. Back to things that make sense. Sonic is going to miss launch day. By a bit. So, for those of you crazy speed fanatics craving the latest in the blue blur's adventures, sorry. Expect it "sometime this holiday season". Interestingly, IGN capitalized holiday, as if the word "Holiday" actually refers to a single, important event. Being PC is lame, but insulting people is even more so.Why did Sonic get pushed back? While we'd like to think the game is undergoing reconstruction after the XBox Live demo incited massive movements against the game, that probably isn't it. Sega claims that they need more time to incorporate downloadable content. Stages? Items? ...Why not just give us a full, complete game? Downloading stages would not be cool. Unless they're optional, bonus, multiplayer... whatever. Oddly enough, downloadable content will be available on day one of the PS3 launch -- probably the demo. Keep your fingers crossed for a December release and a tweaked camera.
Japan gets some prices for their PS3 titles... it's not too bad
Not too bad is about the extent of it. While one price shouldn't be indicative of any other game prices, there's at least a little comfort in the recently announced pricing of Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, and Genji. 5980 yen. Roughly $50 US. That's really cool, should the prices remain the same upon the North American release. Will they? Maybe. Maybe not. No use guessing, but we can pray to the almighty lords of gaming to make it so. Let's not forget that Sega also released some prices a few weeks ago: Sega Golf Club and Sonic are both being priced at 7140 yen (about $60)... the expected next-gen pricing, but didn't someone see Sonic for cheap somewhere? Maybe that was a dream. Seems the pricing will be stuck around $50-$70. Oh well. Is anyone unnaturally bent out of shape about this?
Sonic reveals -- Miles! Er, Tails... Miles Tails? Tails Miles?
We've got a link to some screens here... screens o' Tails for the PS360 Sonic title. Did you like that? Who would have ever thought of combining those two consoles? Me. That's who. Anyway, check out the screens and you'll also notice what appears to be some sort of character selection screen... where one selects their character. To play as. But on this screen are many shadowed characters. So, for all you Sonic buffs out there, can you name the characters just from their shadow? Your prize is... respect. That ain't nothin' no carnival can give you.Japanese release date and price for Sonic revealed
We can get our speed on with the blue hedgehog by the end of this year, assuming our release date coincides with Japan's. Sega announced today that the PS3 version of Sonic the Hedgehog will grace the Playstation 3 on December 21st at a price point of 6800 yen (the same as the current gen game prices, apparently). Also announced was the price of Sega Golf Club... it's also 6800 yen. No word on the 360 version of the game yet.Does this portend well for American game prices? Not really -- Japan doesn't have a singular price of games. We can probably expect a $60 price tag on our games, as previously asserted by Activision. Some bigger titles may run up to $70, but hey, that might tack on the "special edition" label to somehow make it easier to swallow. Nevertheless, let us hope Sonic comes stateside by the end of the year -- we want to move really, really, really fast. Now then, let's go play Ogre Battle 64 (quite possibly the slowest pacing ever in a game... still amazing, but damn is it sluggish).
