Soldner-X delayed until late November

We bet some of you were hoping tomorrow's PSN releases will bring with it the side-scroller Soldner-X: Himmelsstürmer. Sorry to burst your collective bubble, because according to EastAsiaSoft's forums, it's been delayed ... again. The new release date will be "late November." You guys might remember at one point, it was suppose to come out during the winter of ... 2007 -- really, what's another month's wait?

Side-scrolling shooter Soldner-X headed to PSN this October

Download to PSP
We haven't heard from Soldner-X: Himmelsstürmer since last year, but now developer SideQuest Studios is letting us know the horizontally-scrolling shooter is on its way to the PLAYSTATION Network this October. Soldner-X puts you in the shoes of "an anti-hero mercenary and bounty hunter" who must save the Earth from an infection that spreads to both organic lifeforms and technology in "a mighty prototype star fighter." Other than the anti-hero part, it sounds like a cliché plot that gives a lone ship an excuse to take on hordes and hordes of alien enemies.

Soldner-X is an updated version of a 2007 PC title, with improvements such as enhanced graphics, 1080p resolution, new music tracks, easier default difficulty, Dual Shock 3 support, optional SIXAXIS support, and of course, everyone's favorite, trophy support! Check out the trailer above and the screenshot gallery below.

New Soldner-X trailer shows retro revival is strong

Soldner-X is import retail site Play-Asia's first attempt at publishing a video game. It's a blast from the past: a classic 2D side-scrolling shooter. Only, now with HD graphics made possible by the PS3. Already released on PC, this shooter will attempt to capture the hearts of PSN fans. Considering the amount of attention games like Super Stardust HD received, we're pretty sure that Soldner-X will be quite successful with the PS3 audience.

Blu-ray movie releases for the week of July 30th

This week's release list may as well only have one title, because what a title it is. 300 hits Blu-ray this week to rabid pre-orders and has been getting ecstatic reviews for its top-notch digital transfer. Audio in particular is supposed to be amazingly bombastic and satisfying. The title has been one of the top-requested Blu-ray releases since it broke onto the scene earlier this year in all its muscly Spartan glory. Some other movies are coming out too, but come on -- nobody cares.

Here's the list anyway:
  • 300
  • Shooter
  • Blue Planet (IMAX)
  • Roving Mars (IMAX)
See? Nothing else but 300. If the rest of the releases were Spartan children they would have never come back from the wilderness. Instead there'd just be a very fat and happy wolf.

The Club excels with killing spree combos

Thick and visceral, The Club is all about head-shots and body count. Nick Davies, Bizarre Creations design manager, says "it's everything that Splinter Cell and Gears of War isn't." And boy, he isn't kidding. Wearing a bullet-proof vest, the game-play demonstration showed an on-screen character running directly towards baddies and firing multiple rounds. There is no ducking for cover here, and certainly no stealth. What sets the game apart is its implementation of a combo system where points are multiplied with head-shots, explosions and all varieties of interesting kills. In order to keep you focused on the task at hand, the combo meter begins to drain between gaps in the killing, so best to head towards large occupied rooms. In addition to the details gathered on our last look at The Club, it seems levels are broken up in pieces, allowing you to tackle these "bite-sized challenges" in any order you'd like, one at a time.

There is something strangle fun and yet, sickening about the game I can't quite put a finger on. Nevertheless, take a gander at more details of the quick preview and share with us your opinions. Is this a game that will be on your radar? Or are you sick and tired of shooters and yearn for more non-violent gaming?
