Classic Sega games are coming to the PlayStation Network, if leaked ESRB ratings are to be believed. Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 can all be seen with new ratings from the board. These games are already available as re-released on Xbox LIVE Arcade, so it makes sense that the PlayStation Network should get them as well.
Fans of Sega compilations may also want to look into the upcoming Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which houses a number of classic 16-bit games.
Sega has announced that it will be bringing the Out Runseries to current-gen consoles. OutRun Online Arcade will be available to download from the PlayStation Network Store in early 2009. The game will feature fifteen tracks for you to "rediscover," so we're assuming they're from previous Out Run games. You'll be racing one of ten cars against up to five other players online.
OutRun Online Arcade will feature an OutRun mode, as well as Heart Attack and Time attack modes. There will also be Trophy support, voice chat and leaderboards. No doubt we'll hear more information about pricing and release date in the new year. In the meantime check out the video after the break and the gallery below.

What happens when you release a cel-shaded Japanese SRPG into the crowded November holiday lineup? Your game gets largely ignored. Sega's PS3-exclusive innovative tactics game didn't exactly light the sales charts on fire, with only 33k units sold in November, according to the NPD Group. November marked the release of heavy-hitting games like Call of Duty: World at War, Resistance 2 and Mortal Kombat vs. DC. It's thoroughly unsurprising that a game like Valkyria Chronicles didn't perform better in such a competitive market. That's a shame, considering how much we loved the game.
Of course, you could make it right. Right now. But chances are, you'll be waiting for the inevitable price drop on this retail flop. C'mon PS3 fanboys! Tell your friends about Valkyria. And while you're at it, tell them about LittleBigPlanet as well -- both of these games could use some better sales.
Yakuza 3 is getting the specialty bundle treatment, much like the last Yakuza game that came out in Japan, Ryugagotoku Kenzan!. While that previous title paired up with the Satin Silver machine earlier this year, Yakuza 3 is making a duet with an 80GB Ceramic White console. Only 10,000 units of this bundle will be produced. The bundle goes on sale in Japan for ¥45,980 ($493) on February 26 alongside the game's official release.

Hitoshi Sakimoto, best known for his score for Final Fantasy XII, is also the composer of the soundtrack to the PS3 exclusive SRPG Valkyria Chronicles. Original Sound Versionscored a rather unique soundtrack review/interview with the composer -- in addition to providing commentary on the tracks, Sakimoto himself picks out his favorites and adds liner notes for each song. Those of you who enjoyed the game and its music should check out the interview here.
Yakuza 3 is one of the most anticipated games in Japan right now. Looking at the trailer, we can see why. This is one of the most authentic recreations of Japanese urban life we've seen so far -- akin to GTAIV's recreation of NYC. The Yakuza series has been known for its quirky gameplay, and the amount of sidequests and mini-games featured in this PS3 exclusive title is staggering. Hopefully, it won't take Sega too long to bring this title to the US. (Let's not forget that Yakuza 2 has taken nearly two years to localize.)

This week on the Japanese weekly sales charts, two PS3 games make a commendable debut. Yakuza 3Way of the Samurai 3 (thanks, Fiddlesworth!) was sucked in and spat out by the top dog Kirby Super Star Ultra, but it still managed to land in second place, selling 81,047 copies. And who said Japanese gamers don't enjoy first-person shooters? Resistance 2 makes it into the top 5 by the skin of its teeth, selling 33,584 copies. WhileGrand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 is still selling relatively strong, taking eleventh place, LittleBigPlanet isn't doing quite as well -- Media Molecule's title in currently in twenty second place.

Famitsu (translation via IGN) has unveiled in its latest issue details regarding the battle system of Yakuza 3. One of the major improvements is seamless transitions into fights. Another note-worthy addition is the foes you encounter may decide to run away from you (and vice versa, if you are chicken) -- you now have to option to engage in a "chase battle" to pursuit the enemy. This "chase battle" involves keeping your enemy in sight with your mini map and avoiding any obstacles that may appear in your path.
A "tag tournament mode" was also shown in the gaming magazine's pages. Your character enters a fighting arena where you must team up with a partner (whether this is a CPU partner or something else isn't clear) to unleash some co-op attacks on your enemies.
The last iteration of the Yakuza franchise on the PS3 sold fairly well over in Japan. Unfortunately, it hasn't received a stateside release (yet) -- here's to hoping Sega will bring both Yakuza games over to the Western market.
If you've been playing Valkyria Chronicles you've probably noticed that the story is excellent and the characters are superbly lovable. We've actually thought a couple of times whilst playing that we'd love an anime based on the game. It seems our wishes have come true as it has been announced today that a series has been greenlit and will be shown in Japan in the Spring.
There's no indication on whether we'll ever see a localized version in the west. If you want to show Sega you're interested in an English voiced version, feel free to go ahead and buy the game. Anime fans and SRPG fans alike won't be disappointed. We'll have our full review up before the end of the week.
We've uncovered some money-saving deals for our readers this fine Sunday. Call of Duty: World at War is $59.99 but comes with a $15 gift card over at Toys "R" Us. Valkyria Chronicles is $44.99 at Circuit City. Both offers are in-store only and valid till November 15th. Furthermore, both games were selected in our November Buyer's Guide -- you won't regret picking them up.
Sega has announced the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, which is heading to the PS3 in early 2009. The collection will contain over 40 classic Sega titles from the Mega Drive and Master System. Highlights include many Sonic titles, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Shining Force and many others. We've placed the full list of games after the break for your perusal.
While many of you will have already played these games (many times), be it on the Gamecube, PSP, PS2 or on the original consoles, the Ultimate Collection will apparently output all titles at 720p. We're not sure exactly how these old games will look in high definition, but this will be the largest collection of Sega titles ever released together. For those of you that missed many of these titles throughout the years, this is the perfect opportunity to try some Sega classics for the first time.
We're pretty excited for Valkyria Chronicles. The PS3-exclusive SRPG from Sega has been getting greatearlyreviews. And why wouldn't it? Not only does it look good, but it has a cabaret girl singing while kicking ass. Who could possibly dislike a game like that?
Valkyria Chronicles' English release is finally inching closer. Sega has just released a brand new trailer for the game, showing off the tank and its incredible power in action. This reminds us that VC is unlike most SRPGs we've played: the combination of real-time battles and turn-based tactics really has us quite excited.
Those of you who are looking forward to Valkyria Chronicles have a little less time to wait, it seems. The game is being pulled forward two weeks and will now release on October 31st. Considering this is a Friday, this is bound to be a European release and there's no word on a US date change, as of yet. Those interested in the game will be able to try out a demo next week. Be sure to check out our hands-on report to see what we think. (Spoiler: it looks great.) We just hope it sells as well as it deserves to, considering LittleBigPlanet launches the week before.
