Fill your tanks with even more Resistance shots

Click for high-resolution image.

Insomniac's Resistance 2 looks mighty swell, don't it? These three new shots showcase some stunning new environments, set in the American heartland. Somehow, the artists at Insomniac have create a serene setting that doesn't feel quite right; an aura of creepiness haunts over these almost-peaceful scene.

Maybe it's because of that impending Chimera attack. Aliens blowing things up in the forest -- we loved it in Half-Life 2: Episode Two and we'll like it again in Resistance 2. Check out the new screens in our gallery.

Update: Three more screenshots uploaded.

[Thanks, Joey C.!]

Interview with Ted Price about Resistance 2: secrets still locked

Ted Price, main man behind Insomniac Games, talked with IGN for a bit about Resistance 2. While you won't hear much about the single-player adventure and all the mysterious features it supposedly has in store for us, he does speak about the 60-player online squad matches, the time setting for the game, details on the co-op mode, and some other stuff. Part of it is covered in the above interview, and we'll try to summarize the rest of interest from what was written down at IGN.

Interestingly, you have a radar that finds your "rival squads" -- people that have killed you the most online. This is cool because you can hunt them down. Conversely, you can form squads based on interests (age, hobbies, et cetera) so you can forge real friendships in and out of the game, which could lead to increased performance and whatnot while playing.

Co-op mode is "story light" -- not as many cinematics. With the class system, there's no auto-balancing, so if you're not careful (or particularly skilled), you might end up with a full party of Medics or something. You'll see lots of cars from the 1950's pop up, like Cadillac's or Thunderbirds. True secrets are kept pretty close to Price's heart, so you'll just have to wait for more information as Resistance 2 nears release.

Resistance 2, from PlayStation Day [Update]

Videos have been removed, at Sony's request. "This was an internal video to show work in progress and was not ready for distribution." We will post new media when it is available.

Once again, footage from today's PlayStation Day conference has been making its way through the internet. With the delay of Killzone 2, it's clear that there's one big FPS game to focus on PS3 this holiday season: Resistance 2. Forgive the low-quality footage, but remember: you'll see high-def versions of these trailers soon enough.

Resistance 2 playable at PlayStation Day

The latest episode of Insomniac's "Full Moon Show" podcast, as well as subsequent posts on NeoGAF, indicate that a playable build of Resistance 2 will be available for press at PlayStation Day. Unfortunately, no video of the game will be made available after the event, leaving you to snack on only a collection of screenshots and hands-on impressions before June 13th. We'll be at the event and will endeavor to bring you those all-important screenies and our own hands on impressions of the game as soon as possible.

PlayStation Day occurs on Tuesday, May 6th so be sure to check back here for full coverage of the event.

[Thanks Kyle]

Do not resist the tease with Resistance 2 teaser trailer

Most of us here at PS3 Fanboy are quite excited about Resistance 2; however, perhaps we're not as big Insomniacs as all you readers who stayed up watching the special midnight reveal of this teaser trailer. You see what this blogger just did there? While we relished much-needed sleep, many of you have already seen it. But, for all who missed it and are waking up to a beautiful Saturday morn at nearly noon, now's your chance to check it out -- with crusty eyes and all.

Our thoughts on the teaser you ask? As far as looks go, it's quite evident that R2 is going to blow the first Resistance right out the water. 19 hours to live Mr. Hale? Interesting. But a June 13 gameplay premiere reveal? Perhaps not the best time, especially with such a huge game coming out the day before ... and the fact it's Friday the 13th!

[Thanks Leigh B. and everyone who sent this in!]

Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, gets UK release window

According to VideoGamer.com, who've apparently gotten hold of a Sony UK release schedule, three big PS3 exclusives will be releasing this coming Fall in the British Isles. Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet should show up on our beloved console sometime in September, while Resistance 2 caps the trifecta for an expected November release. Sony confirmed that these dates are correct.

Great. Now, we just need to wait for SCEA to give us the heads up on these games and their release dates over here across the Atlantic. Hopefully, North American dates won't be any different. If these games do continue on schedule and actually get released by Fall, then it's safe to say that PS3 owners will be very happy gamers indeed.

Final Resistance 2 logos revealed, new look at multi-player classes

Over at the PlayStation.Blog, the community relations manager for Insomniac Games posted the final logo designs for Resistance 2 (as seen above). The San Francisco Bay Bridge can be clearly seen on the logo's "A" letter; this is the second appearance for the iconic landmark after initially turning up when the game was first unveiled.

It's nice to see the bridge being showcased like this, but when will other American landmarks be revealed? We've known for sometime now that our hero Nathan will be going cross-trekking across the USA, but what other locales will he be going to? Well as long as the next revealed landmark isn't the overused Statue of Liberty, we'll be happy. We've seen that one too many times in most aliens-are-gonna-kill-us type stories.

Other than the logos, some concept art was also posted. These art pieces are on two of R2's co-op multiplayer classes: sniper and medic. To check those pics out, head on over to the PlayStation.Blog.

Reistance 2 gets mo-capped

Insomniac's darling FPS is returning later this year. Expect it to be far more involving than the previous effort. Insomniac has mastered the PS3 tech, and will churn out some jaw-dropping visuals and some truly realistic animation. Watch this motion capture video, being used in Insomniac's upcoming FPS. It's silly, yes -- but it's the kind of stuff that needs to be done when making a game. Make sure you watch it in HD, to appreciate everything that's happening across all six of these cameras.

Resistance 2 artwork is tentacle-tastic

You might have seen the awesome screenshots for Resistance 2, but you might not have seen the concept art and character renders that went into making such eye-popping visuals. While new and gorgeous, much of the artwork reveals little beyond what we already know. The American flags in some of the paintings point to the already revealed USA setting, and we've seen those grotesque Chimera enemies before. However, some concept artworks do raise questions -- like that tentacle creature in the picture above. What is that, a new boss perhaps?

In any case, it's nice of Insomniac to drop us little nuggets here and there. They're doing a good job in keeping us interested in this game. They've certainly got us thinking about this one, as it looks to be a step above the first Resistance in every respect.

PS3 Fanboy presents: Insomniac music video, director's commentary

Did you watch the Insomniac recruitment video? Of course you did. (Download a higher-res version here.) Here's an exclusive for PS3 Fanboy readers. Ryan Schneider from Insomniac joins us to give a few behind-the-scenes commentary for the video. Find out a few new tidbits about the development team and get a few more hints about this Resistance 2 game they have going on.

What was the inspiration for creating a recruitment music video?
Well, when you go to things like GDC, everybody has their typical video. In general, everyone has their recruitment video – it's very "been there, done that." We just wanted to do something different. We wanted to create a video that captures who we really are and this video does. It shows that we take our games very seriously but not ourselves.

BBC confirms Motorstorm 2 and comments on mystery 2009 game

In an article entitled "PlayStation bounces back" BBC's editor of their online Technology news index, Darren Waters, reveals why he considers the PS3 to be back on track. Waters has been shown a few exciting projects behind closed doors, including a gameplay demo of Motorstorm 2. No longer set in a desert, the game will feature a "lush island environment, full of interactive vegetation." Not only that, but in response to numerous criticisms leveled at the original Motorstorm, the sequel will have four-player split screen. The game is due out in time for Christmas this year.

Waters was also shown a trailer for Resistance 2, another huge upcoming first party title, which he describes as "epic." We're looking forward to seeing the trailer for ourselves whenever it's released to the pubic. Finally, Waters teases about a game which isn't due out until 2009 and which is shrouded in complete secrecy. It seems to have left him impressed because he states that he "was left speechless. If the footage I was shown truly is 'in game,' as told to me by the Sony PR people, then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion."

Anyone else got goosebumps right now? It sounds like Sony have got some exciting stuff on the horizon for us. Judging from GDC, however, we need to remain patient for just a little bit more before we become privy to their plans.

GDC08: Insomniac video hiring call hints at Resistance 2

While this new video hiring call from Insomniac Games showcases the company's kooky side, it also holds a lot of hidden messages pertaining to the upcoming PS3-exclusive Resistance 2. The video is basically a guided tour through Insomniac's Burbank office, and this happens all to the tune of a campy rock ballad.

Throughout the video, employees join in on the singing, and in their merriment, they forget that they have secret information on their computer screens. We saw two such screens; one read "twelve new Chimeran enemies" and the other had "0708". The former is quite obvious, but what does "0708" mean? A release date is highly unlikely because we know the game is due out in Autumn. The numbers could be referring to a demo date perhaps?

Of course, our speculations could be wrong. It's also possible that there are more Easter eggs hidden in the video, and we just happened to miss a key piece to the puzzle. Maybe you can find even more than we did, so go watch the video already.

[Thanks Platano!]

Ted Price talks about Resistance 2 for a bit

This is an interesting video interview that goes over some of the main points Ted Price and Insomniac are going over with Resistance 2. While a lot of it is old hat as far as news goes, you might glean a few points you missed out on previously. It's very cool to see what he keeps secret -- like if there will be bosses in co-op mode that aren't available in single player, or what classes of vehicles may be available.

Resistance 2 co-op to have independent story

We've been mostly trying to avoid spilling any beans about the story of Resistance 2 because, well, we want to be surprised too. However, a new Q&A session over at GameTap revealed some interesting stuff we thought you guys might like to know. If you knew already, consider it a reminder for when you gloat and brag about this game to your friends. Don't worry -- no spoilers.

You should be aware there is a co-op mode, where eight folks can join up and tackle the game together with three different classes (medic, soldier, and special ops). Insomniac hinted that they have something in the works to make the gameplay fresh every time you play co-op, depending on how your team splits their classes. They won't reveal what, though.

There's a lot more story and character development this time around. No more narration by the crazy British woman -- it's all about Nathan Hale. Co-op mode, however, has a completely different story. It's unique and pretty shrouded in secrecy as of now. There's a ton more information about multi-player experiences and how Insomniac feels about a number of things, but as far as useful information goes, it's up to you to decide.

[Thanks, Jared!]

Resistance 2: the single-player campaign is basically finished

Insomniac Games' Resistance 2 has hardly been announced, and already we're getting a flood, nay, a wealth of information on the title. In this 1UP feature, we learn a lot about the state of the game and much to our surprise, the road to completion is not too far away. The feature mainly summarizes what we've learned so far about the different modes of play, the size of the online matches, the basic storyline and the enemies we'll encounter. We'll highlight some of the more important bits.

First off, new enemies. Enhanced Chimera with more form-fitting battle armor, because even aliens need to be fashionable and destructive. Boss battles will return, probably in response to some of Halo 3's gigantic monstrosities -- one enemy towers 150ft above protagonist Nathan Hale. The single-player maps are, surprisingly, more or less complete and running in a rough state. Amazing that the game is technically "done" but not "cooked". It's like buying the turkey -- you still have to marinate and roast it. But the turkey is there. The game's difficulty will change depending on you and your teammates' skill level. There's more, but really, you should read for yourself to see what piques your interest -- and prevents us from revealing too much without your consent.
