Blu-ray movie releases for the week of May 11

Hey it's Mother's Day today! Why not buy your Mom a Blu-ray film! But wait, you probably couldn't buy her one from this list though; these Blu-ray movies won't be out until Tuesday. Bummer. Anyway, she probably won't like most of the films this week -- they're looking rather butch.
In case you want to get Mom a belated present, perhaps she would like this week's Youth Without Youth, a Coppola drama set in WWII. You know what that means right? You'll probably like that one, too. If that doesn't work, Mrs. Doubtfire is a contingency plan. "Heloo!"

American PSN Store update for May 8th

Don't feel left out, Americans. Despite how it may feel, Europe isn't the only region getting PSN Store updates this week and today's US update is rather tasty. Between the demos, trailers and PixelJunk Monsters Encore there's more than enough content to keep everyone happy. If you're intrigued about PlayStation Day, however, and want to check out the keynote then, sadly you're out of luck. Here's the full release list:

Playable content
  • Rocketmen: Axis of Evil ($10 - game now available from store, rather than from within the demo)
  • Haze demo (free)
  • Bourne Conspiracy demo (free)
  • GRID demo (free)
Add-on content
  • PixelJunk Monsters: Encore ($6)
  • Rock Band DLC (found after the break, as usual)

European PSN Store releases for May 8th

SCEE has (mostly) kept their promise today with the second update of the week. While the Bourne Conspiracy demo and echochrome trailer seem to be missing, everything else has made it intact. With ten videos to watch from PlayStation Day (weighing in at a total of almost 3.4GB) there's plenty of stuff to watch from the show. Here's the full release list:

Playable content
  • Race Driver GRID demo (free)
Add-on content
  • Guitar Hero III "Def Leppard" track pack (£3.99/€4.99)
  • Guitar Hero III "Muse" track pack (£3.99/€4.99)
  • Army of Two "SSC Challenge" game pack (£3.99/€4.99)
Trailers
  • Mirror's Edge Gameplay trailer (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Introduction: Kaz Hirai" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play has no limitations" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play is hiding and waiting" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play is full throttle" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play is a thousand stories" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play brings us together" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play is moving hips, lips" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Play is unexplored" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day "Summary: Play" video (free)
  • PlayStation Day Compilation Trailer (free)
Be sure to check out that Mirror's Edge gameplay footage in all its HD glory. It really is stunning looking. If you're not particularly interested in PlayStation Day then there's not a lot here for you, unless you're a Guitar Hero III or Army of Two fan.

Blu-ray movie releases for the week of May 4

There's some good variety this week. Let's see, there's Bollywood romance, a little bit of Irish drama, and an Ice Cube comedy. If Bollywood romance is not your thing, then you can watch an equally sappy and camp story in P.S. I Love You. Here's the rest of this week's flicks:
Looks like there's something for thrill seekers, too. Take a look at Twister; it's all about tornado chasers. And you boring types (pardon the pun), don't feel left out. You can watch Helvetica ... a documentary on typography.

Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of May 4th

We hope you're not done playing GTA IV yet, because otherwise you could have a boring week ahead of you. The only release to be found worldwide is Call of Duty 4: GOTY Edition. We highly suspect you already have COD4, but if you don't you may as well take this opportunity to pick it up. We did name it Game Of The Year, after all. Here's the "full release list":

American PSN Store update for May 1st

Much like Niko, echochrome's faceless protagonist arrives in the Land of the Free this week, ready to make a new life for himself and hopefully find his way out of his various labyrinthine prisons. Of course, he'll need your help to do so. If you're not too busy playing GTA IV, that is. For ten bucks, echochrome is a no-brainer for anyone who likes feeling mentally challenged. Here's the full release list:

Playable content

Add-on Content
  • Rock Band DLC (listed after the break)
  • Many Karaoke Revolution: AIE songs ($1.50 a piece - Check the PS.Blog for full details)
Rock Band and Karaoke Revolution continue their scary reign as King and Queen of DLC (we'll leave you to decide which is which). As for whether this is a clever time to be releasing a highly-anticipated game, when GTA IV came out only two days ago, we'll leave that up to you too. Choice can never be a bad thing, we suppose.

Blu-ray movie releases for the week of Apr. 27

This week's movie mash up should involve Sean Connery and Richard Gere at the Excalibur in Las Vegas with the Ocean crew. Apparently, they're picking out dresses and getting ready for an evening of entertainment with Mozart. That is, if Mozart will be appearing this week and not fiddling around in a fictional world with giant bears. Not making any sense mon frere? It will, just look at the list below:
Motley Crue's Carnival of Sins isn't on the list because it's been pushed back to next week. In other news, we just noticed there are an awfully lot of numbers in these movie titles. Does it mean anything? Absolutely not. Is that interesting? Not even. Why mention it? Just because.

Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of April 26th

Calm down, calm down. The waiting is finally over. The game you've all been waiting for finally gets unleashed onto the public this week. That's right, it's Iron Man week. What's that? Grand Theft who? Never heard of it. If that's your thing, though, you can pick it up on Tuesday. After you've seen Iron Man, that is. Here's the full release list:

US Games EU Games
Asian Games

No new releases

That's pretty much it, this week. Two games worldwide, but what more do you need? GTA IV should very well tide you over until the next major release. Depending on what you're excited for that's either Haze or Metal Gear Solid 4. With both of these games due within the next month and a half, now really is a great time to own a PS3.

American PSN Store update for April 24th

Not one to be upstaged, SCEA has bettered today's decent PSN update with an even bigger one. Today you'll find two demos, a PS1 game, five expansion packs and a large collection of trailers. We approve. More updates like this in the future, please. Here's the full release list:

Playable content:
  • R-Types PS1 game ($5.99) - Includes R-Type and R-Type II
  • Iron Man demo (free)
  • echochrome demo (free)
Add-on content
  • Eye of Judgment Set 2 expansion ($15)
  • Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack ($9.99)
  • Rock Band songs (listed after the break)
  • Guitar Hero 3 Def Leppard pack ($6.25)
  • Army of Two SSC Challenge pack ($7.50)
  • Karaoke Revolution: AIE songs (check PS.Blog for full list)

European PSN Store update for April 24th

There's a pleasing amount of new content made available today on the European PlayStation Store. It's not very often we get to say that, but this week is surprisingly good. We'll sit back for a couple more weeks before throwing SCEE a "We Forgive You!" party, but for now we're placated. Here's the full release list, in a new handy-dandy format:

Playable content
  • Rocketmen: Axis of Evil demo (free) (Review)
  • Bishi Bashi Special PS1 game (£3.49/€4.99 )
  • Command & Conquer PS1 game (£3.49/€4.99 )
  • FlOw PSP version (£4.99/€7.99 ) (Review)
  • God of War: Chains of Olympus demo for PSP (free) (Review)
Add-on content
Trailers
Themes and wallpapers
Two PS1 games? Yes please. Good ones, too. This is more like what we expected from the service. No more Reel Fishing, thanks. We're also pleased to see the Resistance 2 trailer going up today, alongside the American release. That and the Variety Map Pack start to make us wonder whether SCEE really is serious about fixing their problems with the European Store. Keep it up.

Blu-ray movie releases for the week of Apr. 20

Spanish-speaking directors that make fascinating films seem to be a growing trend. There was Guillermo del Torro with Pan's Labyrinth, and now we've got Juan Antonio Bayona with The Orphanage. Bayona's film is releasing this week and is probably the film to watch this week, too.
While Spanish-speaking directors are making their way into Hollywood, Western remakes of Japanese horror flicks are on the way out. We're of course referring to One Missed Call. The film's premise says it all: "If you missed it, then that's a good thing."

American PSN update for April 17th

It's been a long two weeks, hasn't it? But finally, finally we can get our hands on it. That one piece of content we've been looking forward to ever since it was announced. No, not Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Nor Warhawk's new expansion, Operation Broken Mirror. We're talking about "Still Alive" for Rock Band! Here's the full release list:
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue ($39.99)
  • Warhawk: Operation Broken Mirror expansion pack ($7.99)
  • Warhawk "Booster Combo pack" ($11.99) -- contains Operation Broken Mirror and Operation Omega Dawn
  • Rock Band DLC (listed after the break)
  • UEFA Euro 2008 demo (free)
  • Warhawk Operation Broken Mirror trailer (free)
  • Condemned 2: Bloodshot "Making Of" video (free)
  • Haze "Mantel Corporate Vision" video (free)
  • This is Vegas announcement trailer (free)
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue "Friendly Fires" video (free)
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue "Beyond the Apex" (free)
  • Two Warhawk themes (free)
  • Lair "Mokai" theme (free)
  • Pineapple Express movie trailer (free)
Don't forget a load of content also went up on Tuesday, when the store launched. We're glad to see the PSN Store getting content again. Don't forget we've listed all the yummy new Rock Band downloadable content after the break. So what will your first purchase be? GT5:P, Operation Broken Mirror or "Still Alive"?

European PSN update for April 17th

The second of this week's PSN Store updates is already up. While it's a little slimmer than the one earlier this week everything on the list below is worth grabbing. Especially as it's mostly all free. The only thing that isn't free is the Warhawk expansion, but we're sure you won't mind shelling out a few measly quid for that. Here's the full release list for today:
  • Metal Gear Online public Beta (free)
  • Warhawk: Operation Broken Mirror expansion pack (£3.99/€5.99)
  • LAIR "Deadly Dragons" add-on (free)
  • Grand Theft Auto 4 "Everyone's a rat" trailer (free)
Don't forget that while the MGO Beta client is available now, the servers won't be open for business until April 21st. In the meantime you can sign up for a Konami ID and make sure you're ready to start playing as soon as possible. We know the next four days are going to be going pretty slowly for you, so why don't you try out Operation Broken Mirror to take your mind off it?

This upgrade pack for Super Stardust HD requires the original game. It will add new game modes: Endless, Survival, Bomber and Time Attack. Arcade Mode now features the Easy difficulty. A new Retro soundtrack has been added. [Editor's Note: It is incredibly awesome. A must-buy for fans of Super Stardust HD.]
  • Guitar Hero III Dropkick Murphys pack (free)
Three songs from the Dropkick Murphys: "Famous for Nothing," "Flannigan's Ball," and "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya." All for a great price.

  • SEGA Superstars Tennis trailer (free)
Stay tuned for this Thursday's update -- it includes Metal Gear Online!
