Project Origin: Abomination trailer

There's not much we can say about this new trailer for Project Origin. We're neither impressed nor dissatisfied; we're in a state of indifference and apathy. Perhaps that's really quite a horrible thing -- even worse than having extremely negative comments.

At least with negativity, there's some sort of invested emotion into what is being made. What does this mean for this F.E.A.R. sequel? Things are looking rather banal; there's nothing new or exciting. Could be just us, though. Is this how you feel when you watch this trailer?

Wanna see nine minutes of Condemned 2?

We don't know about you, but we still haven't grown tired of mercilessly beating homeless people to death. Of course, we're not talking about real life – that would be mean. But it comes in spades in Condemned 2: Bloodshot as proven in this glorious nine minute gameplay clip.

The video helps to further explain the revamped combat system, which was actually pretty good in the first game. However, now you'll be able to punch, throw weapons and slam your enemy's heads into objects. Condemned 2 promises to be the most scary, visceral, in-your-face title yet on the PlayStation 3, and we can't wait for some more homeless on homeless violence.

Monolith Productions developer talks Condemned 2

There's not much to say about this newly released developer walkthrough for Condemned 2: Bloodshot that the video doesn't tell you, with the exception that this game is going to kick much more ass than the previous game. Condemned 2's lead game designer, Frank Rook explains how the game's chain attacks work and shows the more in-depth forensic system.

Despite the fact that all the video is in the pre-beta stage, the game is already looking great, and we can't wait to see more.

Condemned 2's multiplayer modes revealed

Sega said awhile back that Condemned 2: Bloodshot would feature online multiplayer, but we never really knew exactly what that would entail, until now. Sega revealed today that Condemned, which ships on March 11, will feature four online multiplayer modes that supports up to eight players simultaneously.

Those modes are:

  • Crime Scene is a round-based competition to find and protect valuable evidence within the Condemned universe. One team will use its forensic tools to track and scan the evidence while the opposing team will do everything in its power to keep the evidence hidden and protected.
  • Bum Rush is a team-based race against time. With three minutes before one team can safely be evacuated, players must hold off an onslaught of attacks by the other team until the timer runs out to stand a chance of survival.
  • Deathmatch is the classic free-for-all mode. Players can use every weapon they can find to dispatch enemies as quickly as possible in this melee battle royale. The player with the highest score at the end of the time limit wins.
  • Team Deathmatch is the team-based version of the classic free-for-all mode. Working together, players pick up weapons from the environment and fight off as many enemies as possible before the clock runs down. The team with the highest score after the time limit wins.
It appears Sega's giving players the standard multiplayer modes that we've all come to love, but Crime Scene sounds pretty interesting as it is the only one to be centered around the game's excellent forensic tool system. The more we hear from this game, the more excited we get. We can't wait until March!

Yikes! Condemned 2 looks scarier than ever

Watching this newly released video of Condemned 2: Bloodshot only serves to remind us of all the sleepless nights spent huddling alone in our beds like scared little girls after playing through the first game. Only Condemned 2 is upping the stakes quite a bit with scarier monsters, way more violent gameplay and oh yeah, Ethan has gone absolutely crazy, which will only make the line between reality and hallucinations even fuzzier.

After watching the video, one thing is for sure, Ethan is ready to kick some ass!

[Update: It appears some people are having a hard time viewing the video. Instead of inputting your birthdate like it says in the video, try this method: MM/DD/YYYY.]

Condemned 2 gets delayed until March

We're really excited about Condemned 2: Bloodshot. So excited, in fact, that we're actually not very upset that Sega quietly pushed back the game's U.S. release date from February to March. It probably means the game still needs some more work, and we'd much rather Monolith tune this baby to perfection than to try to rush it to meet its deadline.

Heck, at least it's not as bad as the delays for Haze and Home delays, right?

F.E.A.R. sequel finally named: nothing special

Remember a while back, we alerted you to the contest where Monolith was allowing gamers to name the sequel to F.E.A.R.? Well, the contest has finally ended and the winning name has been chosen. No, it's not L.A.M.E., but the chosen title is rather ... stale. Project Origin. We feel like we've seen that title countless times! Even though it's fairly unoriginal, it does get the idea across that the next game will all be about the creepy little girl, Alma, and what her purpose is.

That's not all, though. Also, on the main webpage, there's a link to the names that got outright rejected. Some of these are pretty entertaining and are worth a look just to see if you can decipher the logic that went into creating them. While this contest ended with a less-than-stellar choice, we feel, it still means progress will be made onto another FPS/Horror game and we're excited to see what Monolith does with the franchise.

Almost everything you want to know about Condemned 2

Condemned was a launch title for the 360 -- it was mostly overshadowed by other 360 launch titles, but those who played it derived more enjoyment from it than they honestly expected to. It was creepy, violent, and overall a good experience to introduce them to the new off-white console. Condemned 2 is coming and it's not just on the 360 -- it's coming to the PS3 as well. Here's what PSU learned about the upcoming game in an interview with senior producer Dave Hasle:
  • There's more open-endedness when it comes to forensic parts of the game -- your power of observation and tools to use are entirely up to you. If you feel like it, you can skip right past those bits and continue fighting baddies. Whatever you prefer.
  • While that sounds open-ended, the overall experience will be quite linear. We expect one, maybe two endings depending on how involved you get in the story.
  • Weapon count right now is at 60, might hit 90 by the time the game finishes up. Throwing weapons are making a pretty big impact on the dev team: bowling pins, booze bottles, etc.
  • No cross-platform play, but online modes to be announced later. Monolith has already murmured of an online co-op feature, but until super-duper official announcements are made, we'll take that with a grain of salt.
  • No Sixaxis features implemented. Take that as good or bad, whatever your taste.
We didn't go into the storyline or other, more particular, features of the game to save the surprises for our readers who like to stay in the dark on some things. If you are curious, though, check out the full interview and become a knowledgeable person ... about Condemned 2. It's slated for a Spring '08 release, so until then, we'll keep looking for more info.

Monolith wants you to name their next F.E.A.R. title

Monolith and Warner Bros. remember your reactions to F.E.A.R. as well as you do -- the chilling Japanese horror moments that made you jump, the anxiety felt in frantic gun fights, and the creepy girl. Always with the creepy, long-haired girls. With that in mind, Monolith and Warner Bros. want to get you involved in their sequel. Specifically, they want your help in naming it. First, a short story.

Monolith and Vivendi had a pretty rough split after F.E.A.R. was released. Vivendi has held onto the rights to the name F.E.A.R. and expect to release a sequel with a "2" tossed on the end, but Monolith wants to create a game that takes place in the same universe, but can't use the title name or, presumably, the characters and organizations. Thus, they need a name for their project.

You can submit any name proposals at their website, until June 22nd. They'll pick their faves, host a poll, and let the winning title get its time in the spotlight. Let us know your suggestions, too. Anything goes, but we'd love to keep it up with the funky acronyms. We'd vote for R.E.A.R. -- Really Evil Alma Representin', or B.L.A.H. -- Breaking Laws Around Hell.

F.E.A.R. sequel confirmed -- be afraid of children all over again

Not only do they, as I believe Lemina from Lunar 2: Eternal Blue said, "whine and cry and poop and fight", children have become staples in the Japanese horror genre well beyond the saturation point. Knowing that, F.E.A.R. decided to go ahead with the plans for a sequel to their interesting first-person-shooter-meets-Japanese-style-horror gameplay. While it had been in talks for a while, this is confirmation of the sequel's existence.

It has been mentioned that the sequel will be released on the PC and multiple platforms, with each release specifically tailored to each console's strengths. Also, since the "F.E.A.R." franchise is owned by Vivendi games and this sequel is going to be worked on by Monolith and Warner Bros., it's probably going to have a different title. Can anyone think of a humorous title? How about: S.C.A.R.E.: Something Creepy Always Revealing Evilness! A perfect "Engrish" subtitle.
