Five minutes of inFAMOUS

G4 has five minutes of direct-feed footage of the upcoming PS3 exclusive from Sucker Punch, inFAMOUS. Needless to say, it looks pretty exciting even in this early state. All footage was captured during E3 -- undoubtedly, it's shaping up even better now. Visit G4 to see inFAMOUS for a full five minutes in glorious HD.

PS3 Fanboy eyes-on: inFamous

An explosion obliterates a six-block area of your city, killing everyone but you in the blast. During the following weeks and months, society breaks down. People take to the streets, comitting crimes and cultural suicide. The city is quarantined and abandoned. You wake up from a coma, the sole survivor of the original blast, with the power to control electricity at your finger tips. In the power vacuum of the city, you are able to make a difference, but will you be a benevolent savior or a malevolent power titan? This is the question you're asked when you load up inFamous.

Sucker Punch delivered a behind closed doors gamplay demonstration of the game this year at E3, demonstrating the direction they're going in with the title. Gameplay during the presentation consisted of exploring a small part of the city, which felt very similar to Assassin's Creed. Cole is an urban explorer, a hobby he had since before the blast, so he has ability to climb around the city at ease. How convenient.

Cole's more supernatural abilities are all related to electricity. Those demonstrated consisted of a thunderbolt zapping power and telekenesis (manipulation of electro-magnetic fields, apparently -- that's electricity related, right?) In order to remain powered up, you must continue to syphon energy from the city, drawing it out from electricity pylons and other sources. Sometimes the city will suffer from a blackout, leaving you without any way to refuel should you come across any particularly brutal enemies.

inFamous to get 'blockbuster multimillion dollar' support

Click for high-resolution image.

inFamous is going to be the "next big thing," if Sony has their way. The upcoming 2009 PS3 exclusive from Sucker Punch is going to be getting a massive marketing treatment from SCEA, with a "blockbuster multimillion dollar marketing campaign" in the works. According to a SCEA press release, inFamous will be treated to "aggressive television, print, online and viral advertising campaigns, full promotional support, dedicated point-of-purchase displays and merchandising support." For an untested, new IP, Sony is daring to support the title as a true flagship title.

Sony has become much more aggressive with marketing as of late, especially with the upcoming Resistance 2, which is also getting the same treatment. It'll be interesting to see the extent of this "blockbuster" marketing campaign, and how it will be able to shape the public opinion of such an ambitious (and cool-looking) game.

Trailer Trifecta: Two exclusives & a trophy-filled game

So we know most you are really bummed out about Final Fantasy XIII for some odd reason. We say there's nothing to be that bummed out about at all. Besides, it's time to suck it up, accept it, and get over it. The best way to 'get over it' is to get back to looking at all the game's that are still exclusive to our platform of choice, specifically: Resistance 2 and inFAMOUS.

That's right, based on these new E3 trailers, there's still enough sweet exclusivity to keep you all satisfied. Also, Bioshock (previously a 360 exclusive) has come over to the Sony-side -- it's a trade-off. Embedded is the trailer for Resistance 2; Bioshock and inFAMOUS are after the break.

InFAMOUS not due until 2009

It wasn't too long ago that we last heard about inFAMOUS. If you picked up the July issue of Game Informer, you would've been treated to a nice, long eleven-page feature getting you all skittish over the sandbox gameplay. However -- and quite a big one at that -- your enthusiasm for being infamous will have to wait. Sony says that this PS3 exclusive won't be available until 2009 for PAL territories. Keywords here are "PAL territories" which confirms European distribution and at the same time pretty much tells us a North American date should be somewhat similar. We might not be able to play the game until next year, but we're pretty sure we'll see more on this title come E3.

Game Informer gets inFAMOUS

It's been awhile since we heard from Sucker Punch about their upcoming PS3 game, inFAMOUS. Well, looks like the shroud of secrecy will be lifted in the July issue of Game Informer. The cover confirms that this will be a "sandbox game" (a la Grand Theft Auto IV). However, you will have "extraordinary powers" that come from a "cataclysmic explosion." It's looking dark, it's looking epic ... and it's exclusive to PS3. Game Informer is promising ten pages of info on the game. Once this issue comes in, our next trip to the bathroom will also be quite infamous.

[Thanks, frankym!]

Gallery: The Agency

First revealed a while back, Sony's The Agency is touted to be the first major MMO title to get released exclusively on a console. It takes some stealth, some action, some FPS, and some RPG elements to make a pretty decent looking title that could swerve either into the "overhyped junk" pile or the "hidden gem of the PS3 universe" pile. We won't know until it gets a release date.

Gallery: Final Fantasy XIII

Saying that Final Fantasy XIII is a major PS3 exclusive is an understatement. Even if you don't like RPGs, it's ignorant to believe these games haven't shaped the console world as we know it -- the titles on the SNES rocketed the success of that console, the release of FFVII cemented the original PlayStation as the best console released and FFX greatly assisted in the adoption of the PS2. This latest installment looks drastically different from the others, but we're hoping it turns out as stellar as the other titles have been.

Gallery: Flower

That Game Company made a weird title with flOw. They weren't scared to try new things and they're not scared to do it again with the spiritual successor, flOwer. We still don't know what you're supposed to be doing -- guiding a flower in a field? Guiding pollen from a flower in a field? Guiding the sunlight to vitalize flowers spouting pollen in a field? Who knows. Until it gets a release date, the mystery continues.

Gallery: The Getaway

It's been a while since we've seen anything on The Getaway -- one of those PS3 titles announced long ago and subsequently swallowed up in the black hole of vaporware. We aren't giving up, though -- little drips of information appear every now and then and until we know when the game's coming out, we can only imagine what's in store.

Shown off at E3 as a secret surprise title, we don't know what to make of Infamous other than a sandbox hero/villain creation story where you can protect or destroy a city. We're making assumptions, but it's probably not too far off the mark. We've seen and heard nothing since the original trailer, so a release date is anyone's guess. Fall would be our assumption. Since we've made enough of those so far.

New PS3 title announced: Infamous

The title is technically inFAMOUS, but that'd be silly to type every time, so we'll type it like a normal word. Anyway, Infamous is a brand new title that came out of left field at Sony's E3 conference. Watch the trailer above if you missed it. It looks like someone took the idea behind City of Heroes/Villains and KOTOR and slapped the two together into a fantastic looking experience. We especially like the short scene near the end with the bridge and the lightning and the destruction. Check it out, leave your thoughts!
