Top Gun Anthem on GHIII is Wingman friendly

The heavy-on-guitar-solos track will be available this Thursday, July 3. We guess you shouldn't play this song alone. Make sure you've got your Wingman there with you; it could make the difference. Video clip is after the break.

Guitar Hero III gets free WoW song
Guitar Hero III is getting more free DLC from the videogame tie-in category. Like the God of War track before it, this new downloadable song, titled "I am Murloc," is an ode to everyone's favorite MMO: World of Warcraft. The thrash-metal song from Blizzard's house band Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain will be available for download off the PSN tomorrow, June 26. Might we also add that "Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain" is one of the oddest and awesomely bad band names ever.

Next Guitar Hero III DLC pack to include new Coldplay single

The songs included in the Coldplay pack will be "Violet Hill," from the new album "Viva la Vida," along with earlier songs "Yellow" and "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face." This marks the third of five announced DLC packs for the month of June, with two more yet to be announced. We have to say, the Guitar Hero III DLC is definitely gathering steam. Shame it couldn't have been this good back in November, when the game first released.

Lots of Guitar Hero III DLC coming this month

The second pack will be made available on June 12th and will combine performances from the Isle of Wight 2007 and 2008 festivals into an aptly named "Isle of Wight" pack. This contains Kasabian's "Shoot The Runner," The Kaiser Chiefs' "I Predict A Riot" and The Sex Pistols' "Problems." A one-off free God of War II pack is also available today for free. With this, Activision is clearly really putting a lot of effort into downloadable content and, dare we say, giving Rock Band a run for its money. Well, not really, but it's pretty impressive nonetheless.

Free God of War based Guitar Hero track revealed
It seems like a pretty fun track to play and, considering the price, is a must-grab for any Guitar Hero or God of War fan. It's a shame the song doesn't add Kratos as a playable character in the game. That would be something to behold. Be sure to check out the tune in the video above, if you haven't already.
Coldplay to make Guitar Hero debut
According to Entertainment Weekly, British music act Coldplay have said that their single, Violet Hill, will be on Guitar Hero. The article did not specify which Guitar Hero this will be, but it's more likely than not to be Guitar Hero III since it was mentioned that the track will be DLC.
The downloadable song is part of a huge publicity campaign for the band's new album, Vida La Vida, which is out June 17. A date was also not specified, but it's safe to assume that Violet Hill will appear sometime before, around, or on June 17.

Deal of the Day: Guitar Hero III bundle for $60
If you missed out on this generation of music gaming, this deal from amazon.com may help kickstart the habit. The Guitar Hero III bundle, which includes a wireless guitar, is now available for $60. Yeah, that's expensive ... but that's $40 cheaper than standard MSRP.
While we're pretty sure this guitar will work in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero IV, don't expect to use it in Rock Band. If you don't care about cross-series compatibility, this is a pretty stellar deal.

PS3 Fanboy hands-on: Nyko's Front Man guitar

The Front Man guitar is an excellent option for those looking for an extra guitar. Unlike the official options from Activision and Harmonix, this third-party solution allows for playback on both games, with a simple flip of a switch. For those looking for one guitar that works with both music games, this is obviously an ideal choice.
However, we found that the Front Man guitar is simply the best guitar available on the PS3. Like other guitars on the platform, you will need to connect a dongle to the system for it to work wirelessly. The dongle is rather cute, looking like a guitar foot pedal. There are lights on the front of the pedal, each corresponding to the five buttons you can press on the guitar. They light up according to what you're pressing down. Neat!

Nyko will make Rock Band, GH III compatible guitar
Just weeks ago, it felt as if the stalemate between Activision and Harmonix would never end. Both companies blamed the other for the lack of compatibility between guitar peripherals for Rock Band and Guitar Hero III. Thankfully, Nyko has come to save the day as it recently announced that it would develop a guitar that's compatible with both games.Coming in March, Nyko will make available the Front Man wireless guitar. The peripheral will feature a dongle with a switch that must be set for whichever game a budding guitarist is currently playing at the time. The guitar appears to have all the features that are present in the controllers offered by Activision and Harmonix but also promises up to 80 hours of continuous play time using three AA batteries.
We're pretty sure both companies will settle this silly argument at some point in the future, but it sure feels good to know a true solution is only weeks away.
More Guitar Hero III DLC coming this month
Activision has laid out its December plans for Guitar Hero III downloadable content with a three-song bundle pack, three separate individual songs and a free Christmas classic. The "Warner/Reprise Track Pack" contains Linkin Park's "No More Sorrow," Mastadon's "Sleeping Giant" and The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward". The three individual songs are by "such popular European bands as Extremoduro, Trust and Die Fantastischen Vier" and are titled "So Payaso", "Antisocial" and "Ernten Was Wier Saen" respectively.A rendition of "We Three Kings", recorded by Steve Ouimette, will also be made available for download free of charge as a Christmas gesture. There's no word on when these song will be arriving on the PSN Store (and considering how Europe only just got their first pack of DLC, Europeans shouldn't expect to see it this year) or of how much they will cost. We're going to assumed they will follow the pricing structure the used for previous song packs (ie, way overpriced).
Compared to Rock Band's downloadable offerings, this is pretty meager. We'll probably leave these songs on the virtual shelf when they're released later this month. What about you?
Activision blocking Rock Band patch, says Harmonix
Imagine this scenario. You have a Guitar Hero III controller, and you have Rock Band. And yet, you can't use one guitar in the other game. Silly, right? Unfortunately, that's a reality for many. A patch was supposed to fix this irksome problem. In fact, a patch has actually been created. But where is it?
Harmonix is blaming Activision, saying the publisher is blocking any compatibility patch. In a statement to Joystiq, Harmonix reveals that "Harmonix and MTV Games believe in an open standard philosophy of hardware and game compatibility. We think that there should be interoperability between music instrument controllers across all music games. This is clearly in the best interest of consumers, game developers and console manufacturers and will only help to grow the music game genre as well as inspire innovation and creativity."
"Two weeks ago, Harmonix created a software patch for the Sony PLAYSTATION 3 version of Rock Band that allowed for guitar compatibility and support for third party peripherals, including enabling use of Activision's Guitar Hero III controller with Rock Band. The compatibility patch was submitted, approved and had been scheduled for release by Sony on Tuesday, December 4. Unfortunately, Activision objected to the release of the compatibility patch. The patch remains with Sony, but we have been told that it will unfortunately not be released due to Activision's continued objection."
Excuse me, Activision? Why object to cross-compatible guitars? Certainly, allowing us to use your controllers in EA's game won't cannibalize your own sales. You have nothing to lose Activision. Do the right thing, or face the wrath of angry PS fans.

Guitar Hero III guitars available individually from early 2008

Rock Band is currently suffering from the same problem, especially on the PS3 - the controllers for GHIII and Rock Band are incompatible. At least Rock Band has two other controllers of various types included in the box, making it the perfect holiday party game.
Guitar Hero III sells tremendously - DLC on its way
Did you go out and pick up Guitar Hero III after it was launched a week ago? Ok, fine - forget going out. Did you order it in from one of the many online retailers? We're willing to bet you did because Activision have today sent out a press release bragging to notifying everyone that the game has sold more than $115 million worth in its first week. This gives Guitar Hero III the honour of being the largest single product launch in the company's history.
The press release goes on to state that Activision have made plans for downloadable content for the PS3 version for November. Three content packs will be made available within the next four weeks. Each song pack will contain three new songs though there's no indication as to the price or what exact songs they will be. Still, a little bit of mystery is always fun, right?
