Far Cry 2 sells a million copies across the globe

Ubisoft has disclosed its sales numbers for Far Cry 2 -- in less than three weeks, the game has sold an impressive one million copies all across all platforms worldwide. The FPS has received a fair amount of praise from gamers and the press alike, so this doesn't come as a complete surprise. We are also glad to see a title with developers who have voiced support for the PS3 have such success -- Far Cry 2's technical director Dominic Guay has praised the Blu-ray format and its hard drive as ideal for their game. Congratulations Ubisoft!

Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of October 19th

Even though the release list for this week is painfully long (for our wallets, at least), we can't help but feel that something is missing ... Nevermind. When you see this week's releases you'll have no trouble putting the week-long delay of LittleBigPlanet at the back of your mind. There are literally too many to choose from -- and this is just one week's worth of games. Here's the full release list:

US Games EU Games
Asian Games
Release dates are constantly subject to change, so be sure to check with your local store if you're uncertain. Also, feel free to import your games from other regions -- your PS3 loves exotic food. But keep in mind that DLC always needs to be purchased from the corresponding region. So if you have a US copy of Rock Band 2 you're going to be buying your tracks from the US PSN Store.

Far Cry 2 is in ur Home, eating ur dinnerz

Ubisoft really loves Home. Not only did they host their "Ubidays" press event in the virtual space, but now a new game space for Far Cry 2 has been added. The weird thing? Home isn't even released yet. Still, those of you in the beta (which seems to be a greater number every day, recently) will be able to access this game space starting now.

But what is it? The Far Cry 2 Home space includes mock-ups of in-game levels for you to explore. Within one of these spaces (seen in the image above) you'll be able to play with an interactive map of the Far Cry 2 world as well as learning more about the background story of the game from images and text articles. There's also a multiplayer minigame to play with your Home buddies. The PlayStation Blog post ends with a promise to update the game space regularly, so keep an eye out for developments in the future.

Not bad for free, right? Imagine a Home populated with dozens of such game spaces. Doesn't seem quite so boring now, does it? Check out the PlayStation Blog post for more info and screenshots.

Trophies: Far Cry 2

Here are the Trophies for Far Cry 2 -- all 49 of them: 38 Bronze, 7 Silver, 3 Gold and 1 Platinum. Far Cry 2 places you in the role of an arms dealer in Africa that's "Playing both sides," which incidentally is the name of a Bronze Trophy. The game will be released on October 21st in the US and the 24th in Europe.

Far Cry 2: console video walkthrough

Download to PSP

Ubisoft made quite an impression with its latest console footage of Far Cry 2. While we'd like to say that it's simply the gameplay that caught our attention, we'll admit that this is purely for the eye candy. We're impressed to see that the console version looks just as good as the PC. Word to Ubisoft, though: can we please have a little bit of color into this unusually bleak representation of Africa?

Far Cry 2 video interview discusses day/night system

In this video interview with the developers of Far Cry 2, Ubisoft gives you a brief rundown of the story: track down an arms dealer supplying goods to both sides of some warring factions. There's also a lot of different ways to approach the game: there's a night and day system in place and depending on your actions during the day or night, the game will play out differently. Of course, the time of day will have coinciding strategies that will work to your advantage, whether you want to sneak Metal Gear Solid style or run in with guns blazing. It sounds interesting and we hope to hear more as the game nears completion.

Far Cry 2 is an impressively nice fit for PS3

Many game developers have found the PS3 hardware difficult to work with ... intimidating even. Ubisoft Montreal, developer of Far Cry 2, was no exception and had some worries about developing for the PS3 in the past; however, those uncertain feelings have apparently been dispelled, according to a recent interview with tech director Dominic Guay.

Guay had a lot of positive things to say, calling the raw processing power of the PS3 'impressive' and the hardware architecture a 'nice fit' for their technical designs. He appraises Blu-ray and the PS3's hard drive saying they're ideal for Far Cry 2's continuously streaming open world. The only downside is that the PS3 can't compare to some higher end PC resolutions due to memory size differences, but "it's not a big deal" says Guay.

With the PS3 out for more than a year now, and developer kits out way longer than that, developers have had a lot of time getting to know the hardware they'll be developing for in the next few years. If this is a sign for anything, it must mean that we'll be hearing more and more positive comments like Dominic Guay's in the near future.

No more tears: Far Cry 2 going to PS3

Previously announced exclusively for PC, Ubisoft has just revealed that Far Cry 2 is also being developed for Xbox 360 and PS3. (Could it be the poor sales of Crytek's much anticipated PC-only Crysis?) Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, this FPS has you running and gunning through the wild fields of Afrika Africa. Ubisoft is touting its custom-made video game engine, and as seen from this old off-screen PC footage, it looks pretty good (albeit familiar).

According to the press release, "Far Cry 2 is scheduled to ship fiscal 2008–2009." That's a pretty vague and unhelpful release schedule. For more info on the game, you may want to check out the next issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. They're totally going to crack the game open.

We're glad to see yet another good looking FPS head to the PS3, but we're still more interested in what the talented guys at Crytek might be cooking up ...
