Playing Fallout 3 has been

a little frustrating because of the

PS3FAN has sent you a message

bug that freezes your game every

time a PSN notification occurs. But thankfully, a patch has gone live in Europe (Update: and now America!) that finally squashes the bug. The patch also adds Trophy support. (Check out the Trophy list here.) Enjoy being able to play Fallout 3 whilst keeping your sanity.

[Thanks, David G.!]

Trophies: Fallout 3

You may have to play Fallout 3 three times to get the Platinum Trophy. Or ... you could just try tricking the game. Here's the long-awaited Trophy patch for Bethesda's massive RPG.

PSM3 explains 'Fallout 3 looks poor on PS3' comment

The internet is a big and scary place. People can twist your words in any which way they like. In fact, someone somewhere is twisting this sentence right now. So, when the internet population caught whiff of Euro mag PSM3's Fallout 3 review, surely the quote "The PS3 version compares poorly to its Xbox and PC counterparts" was interpreted in a myriad of ways -- some more sensational than the next.

However, PSM3 wants to set the record straight as to what it meant by that statement. The mag says "the PS3 version looks the same as on Xbox," but goes on to explain a laundry list of differences such as the PS3 version having slightly rougher draw distances, 'muddier' up-close textures and choppier frame rate. PSM3 says this disparity is minute and "won't hamper your enjoyment of the game in any way." Says PSM3, " ... it's still the same huge, epic, absorbing, brilliant adventure."

Well, there you go. Anyone worried about seeing an incredibly broken version should rest easy now. Fallout 3 comes out next Tuesday, October 28.

Bethesda: Australian Fallout 3 same as US and UK versions

Remember we told you that the Australian version of Fallout 3 was going to be edited? Looks that was only half-true -- it appears said version of the game will also be sold in the US and UK, according to Bethesda's VP of public relations, Pete Hines.

"We had added a new chem to Fallout 3 and had given it a real-world name, Morphine. Questions were raised about the use of that real-world drug, not only in Australia, but other territories as well. We decided there was no reason it needed to be named that and it should be a fictional name like the other chems, so we changed it to Med-X."

Well, there you have it. Looks like it wasn't that big of a deal afterall. Lastly, the violence in the game has been retained for all the versions, so don't you worry about that.

The world lacks PAX in these five Fallout 3 gameplay videos

Fresh out of the Penny Arcade Expo are gameplay videos from Fallout 3. Todd Howard of Bethesda narrates each of the five videos. The first one is the very beginning of the game where you escape from Vault 101 located right outside of Washington DC to find out what happened to your father. You can configure how your character will look with a number of options, including a "face, various hairstyles, or a ludicrously long list of beards."

The second video has your character approach a local town named Megaton, where inhabitants offer you advice and jobs. Mechanics demonstrated here include taking meds to make you smarter and listening to the PIPBoy transmissions. We won't spoil the rest for you guys, but definitely watch the end of the fifth video for a ... funghi surprise. All the videos are after the jump.

Fallout 3 screens: Detroit edition

Click for high-resolution image

It seems that every time there are new images of Fallout 3, there's a strong corresponding theme attached to it. This week is labeled "Detroit edition" for the uncanny resemblance to Detroit's ... urban landscape. We're just kidding of course; we know our Detroit readers out there can take a jesting potshot once in awhile.

Anyway, it's a small update this time around. Just another set of three screens. You can check the rest out in our gallery below.

Fallout 3 pics: Invasion edition

Yesterday was "Oblivion edition" for Fallout 3 with those tasty new screens, but today is "Invasion edition." Why is that so, you ask? Well, just look at that Brotherhood of Steel army amassing in the picture above. Those are real, life-sized statues located somewhere in one of Bethesda Softworks' newly renovated fallout vaults. Possibly number 101.

If you're thinking that those statues are tiny figurines that'll fit in your hand, think again. These babies look to be at least seven feet tall. Check the pic after the break to get a sense of scale, or just hit Bethesda Blog for more awesome pics. So, Bethesda, what are you going to do with all of these? Are you going to give us one?

Fallout 3 banned Down Under

It seems like the the inability to harm children in Fallout 3 didn't win it any brownie points with Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification, since the office has refused to give the game a rating. The highest rating allowed in Australia for video games is MA 15+. Hence, any game with material the OFLC deems inappropriate for children under 15 will not receive classification. No classification means it is illegal to sell or promote the game. Bethesda can, and probably will, resubmit the game with edits to try and meet the MA 15+ rating's guidelines. We are guessing those PS3 owners who really want their game experience intact can just import the game, since all PS3 games are region-free.

New Fallout 3 screens are more than just exploding heads

Click for high-resolution image.

Fallout 3 is more than just exploding heads. It's more importantly about the balance of all body parts being equally destroyed to itty bitty pieces. That sort of gritty imagery is well-suited for a dystopian adventure such as the post apocalyptic Fallout 3. From the landscape to the technology, you can see every bit of gloom seeping out and turning this virtual world evermore life-like. To get a better picture, check out the new screens in our gallery below.

Details on Fallout 3's Collector's Edition

It looks like yet another triple-A title will be getting the special edition treatment. This time, it's Fallout 3's turn to join the high-end club with its Collector's Edition set. Revealed through an advertisement on GameStop's website, Fallout 3's Collector's Edition will include the following:
  • Vault Boy bobblehead
  • 100-page hardcover art book
  • Making-of Fallout 3 special DVD
  • Metal Vault-Tec lunch box
It's a pretty standard set of goodies for this sort of thing. The lunch box will surely be interesting as it'll double as both a game case and an actual lunch box. Imagine the look on people's faces when you show up to work/school with such a thing in your hands. The price for the PS3 Collector's Edition: $79.99. The extra cost compared to the regular version: $20. The comforting feeling that only a gamer's lunch box gives after being beaten up in the school cafeteria (or co-worker ridicule): priceless.

Fallout 3 interview reveals world size and voice actors

Quite a lot of tantalizing news concerning Fallout 3 was dropped by Peter Hines (Bethesda Softwork's VP of marketing) in a recent interview. He compared the new game to another Bethesda RPG epic, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and revealed that Fallout 3's world would be a smaller size at around 50-80% than that of Oblivion's. A smaller world for Fallout 3 is actually befitting in the sense that interesting locales in a sparsely populated post-apocalyptic wasteland would logically be more far-in-between than that of the bustling Imperial Cyrodiil in Oblivion.

Another revelation was in the voice acting department; when questioned about criticism on Oblivion's lack of voice acting, Hines replied that Fallout 3 would have "two or three times more" than that of Oblivion. Hines also declared that Ron Perlman, will reprise his narrator role as he did in the first two Fallouts. Liam Neeson has also been added to the roster doing the voice of the main character's father -- a character central to the plot of Fallout 3. There are quite a few more interesting bits in the interview, so you might want to have a read of it for yourself.

Scans of early-build Fallout 3 show much promise

Finnish magazines get all the love. Well, at least when it comes to recent press on Fallout 3. Finnish magazine Pelaaja grabbed a few scans of the game in progress and we must say, it seems to be coming in line nicely, following details already laid out by Bethesda. These scans look great, even if they are a little blurry (likely due to the fact they are scans and not pure screen shots of the game in progress). The character models appear to be fleshed out with texture-a-plenty and we'll bet the lighting will hold similar Oblivion-like bloom effects upon the game's release.

The Fallout franchise certainly has its fair share of rabid fans, so it was extremely important that Bethesda carry the torch with gloved hands, as to not disrupt or crack the foundation already set in place. Without a preview of the game, it's far too early to tell if the plot will hold firm on the foundation set by former developer Black Isle, but the scans show mighty promise. The colors are fairly drab and muted, kept to a palette rich in silver and brown (perfect for a post-apocolyptic setting such as this). Also, the scans confirm Bethesda's previous confirmation of using a modified Oblivion engine and keeping the 1st and 3rd person perspective for RPG narrative. We've put all four scans into a gallery and will be updating with more scans and screen shots as they come in. Fallout 3 is quite a ways off, scheduled for release in Fall of 2008.

Fallout 3 making its way to PS3 consoles in Fall 2008

The teaser trailer came up earlier today and in case you haven't seen it, we've embedded it for you after the break. Although it's too early to determine specifics between the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, the teaser still gives us a taste of what Bethesda has in store for its first go-round with the fan favorite. Bethesda purchased the Fallout franchise from Interplay back in April, giving them free reign on the upcoming sequel, and thank goodness Todd Howard posted his proclamation about caring for the franchise, lest crazed fanboys do something ... crazy. Bethesda's Pete Hines described the teaser as "in-engine," and goes on to say it's "not real-time" but that it was created using game assets in an in-house designed engine. So, in other words, it's not like the 2005 E3 trailer for Killzone, got it? Fallout is projected for a simultaneous release on all next-gen consoles (and PC) for Fall of 2008.
