Looks like Halloween might be coming a little early for some of you. The surivor-horror title Dead Space, which uses the PS3 as the lead platform, was originally set to debut in the United Kingdom on October 31st. It has been pushed up to October 24th, which is United Nations Day. Is that a day to be afraid of too?
The American release date has also been confirmed yet again. We always knew it would be at the end of October, but EA kept changing up the dates on us. First it was Halloween, then it was the 28th, and now finally they have decided on an October 21st release date. Check out the gallery below or preorder the game here.
Some video game websites really are fascinating. We've been having a blast with the Resistance 2 ARGs, and now we're keeping an eye on this new Dead Space website. No Known Survivors isn't an ARG, though -- you won't be visiting the websites of fake corporations, nor will you be getting mysterious voicemails from Katee Sackhoff. Instead, No Known Survivors is an episodic, interactive 3D experience that takes you on board the USG Ishimura, to explore the events that happen before the upcoming horror game. If you know anything about the game, we're pretty certain that these weekly episodes won't end with bunnies or rainbows. In fact, we're pretty sure there will be ... well, no survivors.
WeGame has posted a whopping nine videos about Dead Space from an EA community event they attended. They include interviews with producers, a creature design presentation by the lead concept artist, a lighting presentation by the lead lighting engineer, an environments presentation by the art director, a presentation on scripted events by a producer and two demonstrations of combat and in-game features. The demonstration on in-game features is above, while the rest are after the jump, enjoy!
A prequel to Dead Space in the form of an animated direct-to-video movie is heading our way October 28th, one week after the game's debut. Available on both Blu-ray and DVD, the 85-minute movie will detail how the spaceship USG Ishimura transformed into a surreal and hellish nightmare when the crew brought an alien artifact aboard the ship. The Blu-ray version will feature 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround soundtrack. Extras unique to the Blu-ray include cheat codes for the game and a digital copy. No information yet as to what the cheat codes do exactly.
After looking at the trailer, we think this movie might actually be worthy of our money. You can pre-order the Blu-ray version here and the DVD version here. Watch the violent and slightly NSFW trailer after the jump.
We have for you a very special trailer from the upcoming survival horror title Dead Space. The game itself is still on schedule for an October release, but it appears this particular trailer didn't agree so well with the ESRB -- the video has been refused approval by the ratings organization. Curiously, a previous trailer by horror director James Wan did not meet the same fate. This new Lullaby trailer involves a lot of blood and bodies, and a little, shall we say, remix of a well-known nursery rhyme. Nothing like the night for something like this, huh? Take a look after the jump.
Splat Pack member James Wan is the director of the pre-E3 Dead Space trailer. The atmosphere and style of Wan's most famous flick Saw is evident in the video, with protagonist Issac Clarke docking the spaceship USG Ishimura after a distress call only to find the crew a bit ... changed. The release date is again revised; now it appears the game will be arriving on October 21st.
Looks like EA is going to continue its theme of dismemberment for the boxart of Dead Space. There is indeed something rather simplistic and beautiful about the boxart though, despite the fact that it consists of a floating body part beckoning unsuspecting space travelers into a deathtrap. There are also 13 new screenshots and concept art, most of them every bit as appetizing as the cover. Not exactly kid's stuff, but horror fans should be in for a treat when Dead Space, whose lead platform is currently the PS3, arrives three days before Halloween on October 28th.
This new gameplay video for this year's Halloween release, Dead Space, shows some of the game's combat and exploration. Frankly, it looks pretty good, but we don't feel particularly scared. From the look of things the protagonist is quite well armed, so monsters are only an inconvenience, and not a threat. Hopefully the story and will offer a few scares, instead.
Things that impressed us in this video include the wall-jumping, which allows you to walk on seemingly any surface you can see. We also appreciate the sci-fi elements that pop up. The way the HUD elements pop up in mid-air, leaving the screen uncluttered is quite stylish. Check out the video above and you, like us, could soon be looking forward to Halloween for reasons other than dressing up like a prat.
EA's upcoming survival-horror title Dead Space, whose lead platform was switched from the Xbox 360 to the Playstation 3 several months back, is coming out on Halloween. The previoustrailers gave us a glimpse at the story and visual style of the game, but this new trailer, titled Strategic Dismemberment, features almost all gameplay. It has a voice-over narration which explains to you how you deal with the antagonists of the game, called the Necromorphs, with unusual weapons like a stasis or telekinesis gun. The video highlights the unique nature of the villians of this game, as simply shooting them won't be enough. Rather, one needs to "rip them to shreds" and "completely tear them apart" using various "creative" methods. Being big fans of the film Event Horizon, from which the developers drew inspiration, we can't wait to try this game out ourselves.
With the likes of Dead Space and BioShock coming this fall, it looks like we'll have a good amount of bone-chillingly scary shooters in time for Halloween. Dead Space, especially -- just look at the freaky screenshots. It's horror ... in space. Glad to say, this interstellar thriller looks like it's going to be good ... unlike Jason X.
The tagline is "if they're not dead, they will be." After watching the video, we're fairly excited to take the role of the survivor and prove that tagline wrong. If the promise of a survival horror title with the ability to keep you on the edge of your seat isn't enough, take a look at the awesome sights of space in the video. It's like Sunshine turned into a video game; the views of space are epic and will give us a sense of awe and helplessness as we play. The narrative in the video describes the basics of what's going on, so give it a look and a listen and let us know what you think of this game hitting shelves at the end of October.

A new trend seems to have been started thanks in part to the series of animated prequels released for Heavenly Sword before the game hit shelves. Maybe not a trend, per se, but we've caught wind of another game set to release an animated prequel -- Electronic Arts' upcoming sci-fi horror game Dead Space. The movie is a collaborative work between EA and Starz Media and will pick up where their comic book series ended. The show will air on unspecified channels and will probably have a DVD release as well before the game's release date this Halloween. Sounds neat.
If you've been looking for a new horror title, Dead Space might just fill the void this October. This developer diary was released and after watching it, you might find yourself a little more interesting in EA's upcoming space thriller. We know that, after checking out Sunshine on Blu-ray, space can be a pretty breathtaking place for a movie or a game. This one's shaping up pretty nicely -- let's hope it continues to.

Just a quick notice from Electronic Arts. Their survival-horror-in-space title, Dead Space, is getting a simultaneous release in the US and Europe at the end of October. Executive producer for the title, Glen Schofield rationalized the decision thus: "Dead Space is being developed as a single-player thriller that delivers the chilling, claustrophobic feeling of being isolated in a dark environment, while being stalked by some truly horrific enemies. Halloween is the perfect time for EA to deliver the fear and anxiety that will keep survival horror fans up playing all night." Sounds good, so long as the abandoned spaceship isn't plastered with advertisements.

If you like space and survival-horror, you might've been keeping up with EA's project called Dead Space. Currently, the game is being developed on the 360 as the lead platform, but in another month or two, it'll switch over to the PS3. This is so the game can be the exact same across both consoles -- sort of like how EA worked really hard on Burnout Paradise. Glen Schofield, one of the muscles behind the game, claimed "we're putting all our engineering muscle into making the PS3 great, and then we'll know that the 360 will be great."
On a more general note, he discusses the move that will be taking place from the 360 to the PS3 as the lead platform for future projects. He says it isn't that the PS3 can't do some of the things the 360 can, but it's harder to get at those things. Since the 360 had two years as the lead platform, engineers are used to working with it. But "it's really just engineering catching up with it," he says in regards to PS3 development. Hopefully they'll get the bugs worked out in time for Dead Space, as well as anything else EA chooses to crank out this year.
