Call Of Duty 4 reaches 3 million sales on PS3

It's not that we doubted it would happen, but we feel it's our duty and obligation to inform you that Call of Duty 4 has breached the 3 million sales mark for the PS3 version. The only other title to reach this benchmark was Motorstorm, so you can sort of tell what kind of accomplishment this really is. Instead of dwelling on the past, though, what game do you think will break the 3 million barrier next? Our vote is trapped between Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4.

New Call of Duty 4 cheat caught on tape

You can take the above video in two ways: one way is to see how these people pulled off a new cheat in Call of Duty 4 and replicate on your own time. The other way is to see what the cheat is so you can totally get people banned for using it in matches against you. The latter is much more fun, because you get to ruin people's fun for real instead of racking up points in a make-believe world. Still, it's entertaining to see, so enjoy.

COD4 Map Pack pulled forward for Europe

Here's some good news for Europe for a change. The Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4 has been pulled forward to give it a simultaneous release worldwide. COD4 fans will be able to get their hands on it this Thursday, April 24th. As a result, the double XP weekend has also been brought forward and will commence at 12:01am GMT on Friday and finishing at 11:59pm PDT on Sunday. Because of the time difference, this means an extra 8 hours of double experience.

"Play with Infinity Ward" day is now Friday April 25th and members of the team will be playing between the hours of 11am and 2pm PDT as well as between 5pm and 8pm PDT. Sounds like fun to us, we'll almost certainly be playing. Our only question is, if Konami finally gets their act together and begins the MGO beta on Friday, how do we choose between them? It's going to be a busy weekend.

PS3 Call of Duty 4 Map Pack finally hammers down solid release dates

Apparently, there was nothing to worry about. The Variety Map Pack will hit the North American PSN on April 24 as previously scheduled. European Call of Duty 4 fans can pick up the downloadable content from the Euro PSN on May 1.

Double XP weekend for North America will commence on Friday, April 25 at midnight Pacific Time. It will run through Saturday until Sunday, April 27 ending also at midnight Pacific Time. "Play with Infinity Ward" will be on Friday, April 25 at 5-8pm Pacific. As for Europe, Double XP weekend begins Friday, May 2 at midnight GMT and will end Sunday, May 4 at midnight GMT. Europe's "Play with Infinity Ward" is on Friday, May 2 at 7-10pm GMT.

Call of Duty 4's Map Pack is ready, release date uncertain

It turns out that the previously posted date of April 24 is not the finalized date for Call of Duty 4's Variety Map Pack. Infinity Ward's Fourzerotwo, on his personal blog, has divulged that the new downloadable content for the PSN is "taking a bit longer than expected."

Essentially, all the logistics for the DLC have been worked out, and it's just a matter of waiting on an official release date. Fourzerotwo stated, "I got word today that the Variety Map Pack for PS3 has went amazingly well through Certification at Sony and they plan on having it available on the brand spanking new PSN store in the coming weeks."

Fourzerotwo also assures PS3 gamers that the "Play With Infinity Ward" and "Double XP" weekend events will be coming along with the launch of the map pack. There is still no word on the PS3 GOTY edition. A PS3 Game of the Year edition is coming, yet no word on its release yet.

Call of Duty 4 online play is 'monstrously huge'

PS3 Fanboy's 2007 Game of the Year sure is a giant when it comes to online play. How huge is it? "Monstrously huge," according to Call of Duty 4 producer Mark Rubin. Although he was vague about the actual daily count of PSN CoD4 players, we imagine that the exact number shouldn't be too far behind the 1.2-1.3 million players on Xbox Live every day.

He stated that "PS3 numbers are monstrously huge. No other game has come close, either online current, or total unique users in a day." He continues to say that this trend has been carrying on for the past couple of month, seven days a week. Since Mr. Rubin can't provide a number for us, we'll have to start tallying for ourselves. How many of you are feeding the monster?

Call of Duty 4 DLC is coming in late April

We've got some good news and some bad news regarding the upcoming DLC for Call of Duty 4. The good news is that Infinity Ward's Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling confirmed on his personal blog that the PS3 variety pack will indeed be coming to the PSN next month. The bad news? Owners of the PS3 version will be getting the DLC on April 24 -- three full weeks after the Xbox 360 version goes up.

Now those extra three weeks shouldn't be too hard to stomach, right? After all, shouldn't you be used to this kind of treatment by now? In any case, it won't be difficult to make enough money in time to purchase the variety pack; it'll only cost a measly US$10. For those who are not aware of what's inside this DLC update, let it now be known that it's comprised of four maps: Creek, Broadcast, Killhouse, and Chinatown.

Call of Duty 4 gets patched

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has just received another patch, further balancing the game's excellent online offerings. The patch will automatically download and install when you launch the game on your PS3. Included features:
  • Optimized servers
  • New Kill cams (grenades, RPG's, airstrikes, claymores, and more)
  • Quick Mute (allows user to mute annoying players by pressing X on their user ID in the lobby)
  • Addition of "Recently Met Players" for the PlayStation Network
  • Improvements to the Sniper Rifles and Acog attachments (no more delayed shots)
Glad to see Infinity Ward is still putting some strong support behind this multiplatform title. Yes, the Xbox 360 got a similar patch a while back, but at least the PS3 hasn't been forgotten.

A look at Call of Duty 4 DLC: Chinatown

The PS3 Fanboy GOTY, Call of Duty 4, is set to expand its multiplayer offerings later this year through its first DLC. Chinatown is one of the first revealed maps, and GT TV is proud to present an exclusive first look at the new map. CoD2 vets may recognize the map, but expect it to have a completely different feel in CoD4. It's still one of our most played online games, so we're glad to see how well the new content is shaping up.

Call of Duty 4, Motorstorm walk away with AIAS awards

Critics really love Call of Duty 4. PS3 Fanboy's choice for GOTY took home the gold as the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences awarded Infinity Ward's shooter its most coveted award.

PS3 fans that don't believe in multiplatform titles may be disappointed to hear that PS3 exclusives did not fare so well with the industry's equivalent of the Academy Awards. Motorstorm is the only game to take home an award, for Best Racing Game.

Yahtzee really quite likes Call of Duty 4

It's been months since Yahtzee riffed on a PS3 game but today he's given his special attention to PS3 Fanboy's GOTY 2007, Call of Duty 4. Fittingly he seems to quite like it, though he doesn't quite place it among the high echelons of the likes of Portal - and rightly so. As usual his review is dead on.

If you're new to the world of Zero Punctuation and enjoy the above video, then make sure you check out all of his other reviews. We've been watching since he first criticised the Heavenly Sword(s) demo way back in the mists of 2007. Please Yahtzee, if you're reading this, review more PS3 games!

Call of Duty 4 to get downloadable maps

What do you do when you make a Game of the Year-winning title? You make more of it. Call of Duty 4 is getting DLC later this Spring, adding brand new maps for the popular online shooter.

According to the press release, "We've demonstrated our commitment to delivering the best multiplayer experience in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and that continues with our plans for new downloadable content," explains Infinity Ward's Community Manager, Robert Bowling. "We're excited about the new maps, and the added gameplay variety, and we can't wait to wrap things up and get online with everyone."

Considering CoD4 is the best selling game of last year, we're pretty sure the fine folks at Activision are going to have to build another pool of money to swim in once the DLC gets released.

Call of Duty 4 will get updates today, near future

This is coming straight from the studio that brought us the PS3 title in question: Call of Duty 4. There have been issues with the PS3 version of the game for a while and some of these issues have been addressed. More keep creeping up, though. Infinity Ward is on the job, though -- "I'm going to have an update for you in the near future (probably tomorrow) regarding the server issues you may have experienced over the holiday break while attempting to play online in Call of Duty 4 PS3; this update should give you all the background information on the issue and some fixes that should be going into effect."

This was listed yesterday, so if you haven't tried playing today, go ahead and boot up to see if an update is in place. If not, expect it and any subsequent updates regarding recent issues to pop up in the next few days.

Get double XP this weekend on Call of Duty 4

It's probably better we tell you now than halfway through the weekend. If you've been struggling to rise through the ranks in Call of Duty 4, fear not, as this weekend brings you good tidings of great joy -- multiplayer games from Friday-Monday will yield double experience so you can get all that stuff you've wanted twice as fast. This is especially useful for us with the PS3 version, since we've had a hiccup or two along the way with the online mode of the game. So, even if you have finals next week, forget about that! It's double experience, dude! If you don't, then you've got no excuse to miss out, do you?

Call of Duty 4 servers get hammered

Many have experienced issues playing Call of Duty 4 on PS3. Why? Infinity Ward is reporting that the PS3 online multiplayer is being "slammed" by the incredible demand for the game. In a statement to CVG: "The only real issue is that the servers we're getting hit really hard, especially with the launch in Europe doubling that traffic, just something that requires optimising on the server side and we've been working with the PSN COD4 Server team from the moment it started having issues assisting any way we can to help them get them up to speed faster."

The issue is with the servers, and won't require a patch to the game. The game, which has completely destroyed this blogger's weekend, is an absolute thrill ride that any PS3 owner should experience.
