Metal Gear Solid 40GB PS3 bundles with free tote bag ... in Japan, of course

Sony just loves 'em colors over in Japan, huh? For these limited edition 40GB MGS4 bundles, not only do the PS3s come in different colors, the tops of the boxes comes in different corresponding colors; the Ceramic White model comes with a light blue top, the Satin Silver model comes with a black top, while the Clear Black model comes with a red top. There are also limited quantities of MGS4 tote bags to be given away at participating retailers with the purchase of these bundles... all of this in Japan, of course.

What we don't understand is, why doesn't the black PS3 go into the black box? Wouldn't that make sense? Wouldn't it also make sense to them to bring these to the US or Europe? Would it be in good fashion sense to use that bag? Would ... okay, we'll shut up now.

Warhawk add-on bundle coming to Europe this month

SCEE has announced today that the two currently existing Warhawk booster packs, Operation: Omega Dawn and Operation: Broken Mirror will be combined into a low-cost bundle this month. There's nothing more specific than a "June" release date, but the two add-on packs together will cost you only £4.99 (Euro price unknown, though we estimate around €7.99). Currently these can both be bought separately for £3.99/€5.99, so if you wait it out (and why wouldn't you, if you haven't picked them up by now?) you'll be saving a few quid. Definitely worth the price, if you ask us.

Metal Gear Solid bundles say 'welcome' in Japan

For those native to America, a trip to Japan can be quite a shock. Not only is everything clean ... everything is polite. Perhaps its the Japanese insistence to courtesy that dubbed this Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle the "Welcome Box." This package will embrace you with a 40GB system (colors of choice include: Clear Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver), rumble-ready DualShock 3 and copy of MGS4. It will be available in Japan on June 12 for ¥49,800 (~$470). The limited edition "Hagane" Grey MGS4 bundle retails for ¥51,800, by comparison.

GTA IV bundle confirmed for Europe

SCEE has confirmed the existence of the Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 bundle that we've been seeing around the net for a little while. The bundle will be available, seemingly, across Europe at a price of £319.99 or €439 on April 29th, day and date with the game itself. Inside you will find a 40GB PS3 along with a SIXAXIS controller and a copy of the game. For the price, it's not a bad deal. Nothing special, but good enough to be tempting.

We're certainly intrigued to see how many PS3s GTAIV will push and a bundle like this can only be a good thing. So if you haven't got a PS3 yet and are thinking of picking one up for what is, arguably, the biggest game release of the year, you know what to go for.

MGS4 Gun Metal PS3 bundle coming to North America

This one is a delightful surprise. While we've been ogling over the Limited Edition packaging of Metal Gear Solid 4, PlayStation.Blog confirms that the Gun Metal Limited Edition bundle will be heading to North America as well. The site wrote, "We are confirming that there will be a North America offering of this very, very Limited Edition bundle!" The Gun Metal PS3 bundle is the very same one that quickly sold out over at Konami's Japanese site. Further details such as price have not been revealed.

Well there you have it folks. You now have four ways of splurging on MGS4. Which way are you going? Standard, limited, bundle, limited bundle? Why not all!

Japanese Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle sells out

So, who knew this Metal Gear Solid 4 game was going to be so popular? Konami's Japanese site has the recently revealed steel PS3 bundle listed as "Sold Out." Yep, before this baby is even on store shelves, it's sold out. Pre-orders are gone. The bundle includes a limited edition version of MGS4, a DualShock 3 controller and a steel colored system.

Importers are going to have to resort to more desperate (and expensive!) means to get their hands on one of these babies. Will the upcoming US bundle meet the same kind of demand? Only time will tell.

A better look at Japan's MGS4 steel PS3

Famitsu scans don't do this bundle justice. Get a closer look at the limited edition steel PS3 bundle coming out in Japan. Not only will it include a DualShock 3 controller, it will offer Japanese gamers a limited edition copy of Metal Gear Solid 4. Japanese gamers (and importers) will be able to pick it up on June 12th for ¥51,800 ($520).

Japanese MGS4 bundle goes gray (like Snake)

Could Japan be receiving a new PS3 color for the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4? This magazine scan seems to suggest so. This Limited Edition system will come with a slightly grayed version of the console -- perhaps to parallel how Snake has aged in the newest iteration of the franchise. It looks like Japan's bundle includes a few bonuses -- is that the Metal Gear Saga DVD?

These new Metal Gear bundles are a wise move on Sony's part: this is undeniably a system seller. (Check out the US bundle here.) Update: These "steel" PS3 systems will include, as expected, a DualShock 3 controller as well.

[Thanks, CHK!]

New PS3 "Pick N Mix" bundle for the UK

Do you live in the UK? Are you thinking of picking up a PS3 in the next seven days? If you answered "yes" to both of those questions then we're here to tell you to wait. Next Friday a new "Pick N Mix" bundle will be available from most retailers which will allow you to grab a PS3 along with two games for only £350.

We know what you're thinking. "Yeah, but the games probably won't be any good." Not so! Games that can be bundled with your new black monster include Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Singstar, Motorstorm, Resistance, Folklore and Warhawk. Or, if you're feeling masochistic, you can even go with LAIR and Genji 2. Sound good? We think so too. This bundle will be available from Friday the 18th of January and will continue "until further notice".

Devil May Cry 4 being bundled in Japan

Sony certainly knows when to take advantage of a game that Japan loves. They did it with Minna no Golf 5 and Bladestorm and now Devil May Cry 4 looks set to receive the same treatment. The game will be bundled with both white and black 40GB PS3s and will also come with an extra Blu-Ray of bonus content.

Due out on the 31st of January, alongside the game, the bundle will retail for 47,800 yen. That's around 212 GBP, 294 Euros or 422 USD by today's standards. Not a bad deal at all. Since the price drop sales in Japan have been increasing nicely and, hopefully, this bundle will only improve the situation.

Rumour: Sony to announce a Heavenly Sword + Formula 1 EU Starter Pack

We're classing this one as a rumour because we have no experience with NeoGAF user Robinspain's backstory. Regardless, the other NeoGAF users seem to have no qualms in believing him today when he revealed that Sony will be announcing a new PlayStation 3 Starter Pack in Europe. He even posted a nice promo image of the box, as you can see above.

While the price remains the same (€599/£425) the contents of the box has changed to include an extra controller and the games Formula 1 and Heavenly Sword. Generally speaking, Heavenly Sword and Formula 1 appeal to completely different tastes. Perhaps this is Sony's way of making the console appeal to different members of the family. A Blu-Ray player for the dad, a racing game for the son and a woman-power adventure game for the daughter/mum? It screams of check-all-the-boxes, target-every-demographic marketing which, until games like Singstar are released, won't work too well.

This is all moot, of course, as ever since the Starter Pack was released shortly after E3, stores have been soft-bundling different games with the PS3 at the Starter Pack price. It's no harder to pick up a PS3 with Genji and Ridge Racer than it is to get one with Motorstorm and Resistance at the same price. Lastly, you may have noticed that neither of the in-box games have two player split-screen, so why the extra controller? Remove F1 and stick in the Warhawk Blu-Ray disc and the bundle suddenly becomes far more worthwhile.

Bladestorm bundle to invade Japan later this month

Yet another PS3 bundle is heading to Japan. This time, it's for Motorstorm Bladestorm. For 61,886 yen ($536), Japanese gamers (and importers) will be able to get a 60GB system, game and soundtrack. For those that already have a PS3, they might be interested in the much-too-expensive Bladestorm limited edition bundle, which includes the game, soundtrack CD, art book, and calendar. All for a whopping 9,980 yen ($86).

Previous PS3 bundles included Koei and Namco's Gundam Musou, and Sony's Minna no Golf 5.

Rock Band bundle packaging spotted on Gamestop and Amazon

On of our eagle-eyed readers has noticed that the Gamestop and Amazon Rock Band cover art has been replaced. Now, instead of a bland DVD box (we hope that uninspired art is a placeholder), we can see the box that the bundle will come in. Only the PS3 version has been changed, the 360 version has remained the same. There's not a whole lot more to say about it, except: how exciting!

There's nothing like buying a game and getting a huge box full of stuff. Right? Though we're curious. How are they going to fit a guitar and drum kit into that box? Unless it's some Ikea style flat-pack deal. Flat-pack video games. Whatever next?

[Thanks Jared!]

Australia, you get a nice PS3 bundle also, you know!

We could never forget about our friends down under! It has been confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will get the bundle package treatment in Australia as well, starting August 2nd. This isn't really a price drop -- the console will still put you back A$999, but like Europe, will come with a lot of extras that makes it appear to be a bargain.

When you buy the bundle package, you get two Sixaxis controllers, a copy of Resistance: Fall of Man and a copy of Motorstorm along with your 60GB PS3. So, if you were unable to take the plunge before due to the high start-up cost of the system, this bundle doesn't make it any less painful for your wallet, except you'd have saved quite a bit on the extra peripheral and two games. Would you guys rather have the US consumers' price drop, or keep this bundle? Again, look for your version of Europe's bundle to hit shelves August 2nd.

60GB PS3 + 3 games + HDMI + Blu-Ray for £399 at Play.com

Play.com is currently offering a very competitive PS3 hardware bundle. For £399 you can get a 60GB PS3, Resistance, Motorstorm, Genji an HDMI cable and a Blu-Ray movie (Click). Add an extra controller for £28 and you're paying for the Starter Pack, but getting an extra game, cable and movie. This is a saving of £214 and we think that it is excellent value. There's no word on when this bundle will end, but it's fairly safe to imagine that stock will sell out fairly swiftly with a deal like that. So if you're tempted, go for it.

Play.com will ship internationally (seemingly for free), with the price working out to about €593. Though there may be customs charges to worry about. Check the customs laws for your individual country before ordering.
