PS3 Fanboy

Michael Pachter has certainly had his hits and misses, but if his latest hunch turns out to be true, we'll be pretty damn happy. While filming an episode of Bonus Round on Gamespot, Pachter suggested that EA will port Mass Effect to the PS3. Since EA expects $300 million in revenue a year from Bioware and Pandemic, it wasn't looking to only publish games on the 360, he said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Mass Effect 1 came to PS3, the Wedbush Morgan analyst said. "It has to."

After already selling a million copies in three weeks, Mass Effect is a certifiable hit, and we all know much EA likes to spread its library across as many platforms as possible to maximize revenue. We just hope that if it does happen, it will be as soon as possible, or if we do have to wait awhile, we can get some exclusive bonus content. We just can't get enough of that lesbian alien sex!

PSU is today reporting that the community director of Bioware has confirmed that they will be at E3. He states that they weren't happy to confirm their presence there until they "were sure that the cool stuff we're going to be showing there was set, ready and very, very cool."

While it's clear that they will be showing Mass Effect and Sonic RPG at the expo, PSU is speculating that they will also be revealing a new PS3 exclusive. Their reasoning stems from a conversation with Richard Vogel, Bioware's Director of Operations, at the GDC, during which he mentioned to PSU that there was a game in development for the PS3. Unfortunately, no further details were able to be obtained.

Checking the Bioware website, the "in development" games list shows a listing for a "new next generation game". We look forward to seeing if PSU's hunch is correct when E3 comes around.

There! We qualified the subject line with a giant, all-caps RUMOR sticker... so you already know ahead of time to take the information with a grain of salt. The rumor is thus: BioWare is on board the Sony train, developing something for the PlayStation 3. BioWare is, of course, a company that Microsoft has been trying so hard to hold onto exclusively that they've begun to choke their creative juices.

The rumor comes from a friend of a friend that went to a show where people spoke with one of the heads of BioWare. The BioWare co-CEO supposedly confirmed to a good number of people that the company was actively developing on the PS3, but was officially quoted as saying: "We haven't officially announced support for the PS3, but stay tuned..." We will. We certainly will.
