Deal of the Day: Assassin's Creed for $30
If you were not one of the droves of morons drooling over Jade, then you actually listened to the news reports and would know that the game was fairly good with excellent visuals, and an alluring, original story. If you haven't picked this game up yet, then the 50% discount at 30 bucks is a good asking price to jump in. Go for it or not, that's your choice; however, just make sure that decision is based on the game itself and not on who's making it, okay?

Deal: Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch for $40 each

Ah, deals. They're either a blessing or a curse, depending on how you want to look at them. Sometimes they're just an undeniably awesome steal; at other times, they're a cleverly disguised way to rope you in on puchasing games you were previously borderline on getting. Throw in the fact that today's deal involves two somewhat politically controversial games in the realm of game journalism -- one more so over the other -- and there's more to it than meets the eye.
But enough of this unnecessary analysis! We're all about the numbers and the savings, right? Right. If anyone's still thinking of picking up either Assassin's Creed or Kane & Lynch and hasn't done so already, then Best Buy probably has the deal for you. Both games are on sale at $39.99; that's 20 bucks worth of savings, politics not included in the box.

PS3 Fanboy Gameflood: Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed is, for such a highly anticipated title, rather disappointing. That's not to say that, technically, the game is a masterpiece - it's just not particularly fun. With large, varied cities - all intricately detailed - the graphics and animation are first rate, even though it's clear that all the talented animators were put to work on Altair's in-game motions, leaving the lesser skilled animators to produce the cutscenes. Faces do look ugly and there's some silly clipping that could easily have been avoided.
Outside of the cutscenes, however, the animations are excellent and easily make the game's fun bits all the more aesthetically pleasing. These fun bits come in the form of freerunning across ancient cities and, even while the rest of the game has become dull and tiresome, you'll still garner some pleasure from outrunning pursuing guards and diving headfirst into a roof-garden to conceal yourself.
Patch coming for Assassin's Creed freezing problems
If you've been met with continual freezing while playing Assassin's Creed, never fear because Ubisoft is hard at work on an update to rectify the issue. It seems gamers are experiencing the freezing intermittently and not from the same point in the game."Following our recent statement regarding the freeze issues that some consumers are facing with Assassin's Creed on PlayStation 3, we can confirm that we are actively working on a game update," Ubisoft's UK community manager posted on its forums. "This update will help improve the stability of the game and will be released as soon as possible. In the meantime thank you for your ongoing feedback and patience."
It's great that Ubisoft is working on the fix so soon, but it's disappointing at the same time that gamers may have to wait weeks to be able to fully enjoy the game they spent their money on. These type of bugs should have been spotted and fixed long before the game was released to the public. Hopefully, Ubisoft says sorry by throwing us all some free downloadable content in addition to fixing the bug.

Guillemot says developing for PS3 is no harder than 360

As for the rumor that it costs a lot more to work on the PS3, well, it's still true, but not a major hike in price due to Ubisoft's complete cross-platform engine thingy. "What we do now is create for the PS3 and 360 at the same time, and it doesn't cost more than 10 per cent extra to develop for the other machine ... Before it was costing us more, about 20 per cent, just because it was difficult to learn the PS3 hardware, but now our engines are done and we can easily develop for both machines." Good stuff, we guess. Hopefully this means less delays for PS3 versions of games as well as equivalent gaming experiences.
Assassin's Creed PS3 skin only at Gamestop
Gamestop is, from November 1st, offering a new Assassin's Creed skin. For a few weeks this will allow you to almost imagine that you have the game. "I have Assassin's Creed on PS3" you'll be able to say, without technically lying. The skin includes stickers which attach to the top and bottom of the PS3, so if you have your console sitting horizontally (as you should, really) then half of this skin just became moot. We're hoping that the stickers don't stay on permanently so that once the Assassin's Creed hype dies down you aren't stuck looking like you're stuck in the past.
