Square Enix has announced their E3 lineup and, sadly, it's slim pickings for PS3 owners. With seemingly no sign of
Final Fantasy XIII or
Versus XIII, the only PS3 title Square Enix will be showing at the show is
The Last Remnant -- and that's multiplatform. Even then, the game won't be playable at the show.
Star Ocean IV is also listed on the press release and is lacking an "exclusive on Xbox 360" label, which bodes potentially well for the game reaching the PS3
at some point in the future.
It's all a bit disappointing really. We know PS3 fans are excited for anything Square Enix related, particularly
Final Fantasy XIII and
Versus XIII. Who knows, maybe they'll announce something special for PS3 owners at the show. Or maybe they're keeping their PS3 titles quiet because they're reserved for Sony's Press Conference and won't be available to see on the show floor. Fingers crossed.

Jonathan, i agree its called a "Japanese RPG" for a reason. Xbox sold under 1million units in Japan so why would a Japanese developer release a JRPG for a American console??. Well look at Namcos: Ace combat it was always a best seller on Playstation but it sold horribly on Xbox360. Namco had problems just covering production cost, Namco really messed up and they lost the majority of Ace combat fans.... and now Square enix is about to do the same mistake.

even if they dont show anything at e3 for final fantasy 13, its because that the square enix party in august is coming around, and they are also waiting for the tokyo game show to show it off more because its japan and they love final fantasy. anyway we all know star ocean 4 is coming to ps3, other wise microsoft would be hyping the crap out of it. the last remnant is fine being delayed. because if it came out this year, i wouldnt have time to play it due to resistance 2, brothers in arms, eternal sonata, and more. so im glad its moved to 2009, at least we ps3 owners have a future to look forward to, unlike another console

PS3 needs more RPG's
DAMNIT, why are they giving them to Xbox 360?
Most Xbox 360 gamers are First person shooter plays, i like those games to but i bought PS3 for hopes of good RPG's down the road and there's nothing right now
Oblivion is very bland and really lacks imagination compared to some of the asian RPG's

square enix along with several other major developers are moving away from E3 and putting on their own press conferences either before or after e3. sq enix has specifically said they will have an august event in japan.....with even more info at TGS in October.
Why does square's lineup at e3 come as such a surprise?

I want to add that Activision, iD, NCsoft, Blizzard, etc have decided to forego e3 all together b/c the show is not what it use to be. Much cheaper to put up their own smaller events (e3 has been significantly scaled down and still costs a fortune for developers). Also, the new ESA president seems to be much less industry savvy then his predecessor (no lobbying in congress).

and because with their own press conference being thrown by them, they get everyones full attention without being washed away with the 100s of other games being announced all at once.
Makes sense on their part to do their own show. Sucks but makes sense..
Still wish we heard something from SquareEnix already in regards to the next FF installment....

It's a bit hypocritical to quote low console penetration as the reason why a studio would not release on a console and then sign exclusivity deals with another who has the lowest penetration of all next-gen consoles.
The coin is the reason here. I don't balme studios for taking the cash; after all, it's a gaming industry not a gaming charity but I just don't see this fiscal model occurring again.
The question is: if Studio A creates game X and signs a deal with one console which then sells poorly does it equate to more revenue than multi-platform (which will obviously have more combined sales) but no "signing on" carrot?
I don't know. I'm sure the bean counters at SquareEnix worked it out. Maybe it made economic sense this time. Will it again when new games are going into pre-prod?
I honestly can't tell. We'll surely find out though.

Square-Enix has turned their backs on the PS3. Bastages.
I actually own a 360 but every game I try to play on it locks up all the time, and I've already had it repaired once (and not a RROD repair so it cost me $100). I'm afraid to buy games for it.
What's a gamer to do? No JRPG games on the PS3, 360 is broken hardware. Wii is all shovelware crud.
Guess its time to replay all my PS2 JRPGs. Then listen to Squenix cry about poor bottom lines.

Patience. The JPRGs will be appearing on the PS3, just not this year. MS paid a lot of hard-earned coin to get those exclusives so let's wait for the uptake in 360 sales in Japan to see if the studios will continue with the exclusivity agreement. There's already strong rumours that Star Ocean IV isn't going to just hit the 360.
Not to troll but my prediction is: there will be a 360 sales spike in Japan when these games launch but not to the amount that will keep the Japanese studios tied with MS. Therefore this "round" of JPRG exclusivity will not be seen again. The PS3 will continue to sell well and the studios will bring the love back towards the Sony console over the next 12-18 months.
But, what do I know? I'm obviously posting on a PS3 fan-site so ... you know where my allegiances lie.

@Brodie: Square told Sony they were worried about console numbers to begin with. I guess when they see X million PS3's in the wild they'll feel comfortable selling us games.
