This morning Activision announced a number of details regarding the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty: World at War will allow players to live vicariously as both the side of the US against the Japanese and the Russians against the Germans. The most anticipated feature, however, is the four-player co-op mode. On the PS3 (and Xbox 360) version, players can choose between a multiplayer four-player split-screen offline co-op mode or a four-player online co-op mode. Finally, there is experience points to be earned in both online modes, with a difficulty level that "will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge," so how challenging it will be depends on the experience level of the player and the player's comrades.

[Update: There is a four-player offline co-op mode and the wording has been changed to clarify this.]

You wont find out for ages yet, shouldnt be too long. COD5 co-op sounds brilliant, looks like a great selling point.

If this releases in the fall it will be going up against SOCOM and Resistance 2.....seems like suicide to launch in the fall.

If COD5 is able to put up the numbers of COD4, it will easily crush SOCOM & Resistance 2 in sales. So it is definitely not suicide. Unfortunately I doubt COD5 is even going to be that good since it is developed by the same guys who did COD3, which was pretty mediocre. I won't be buying this game unless it gets GREAT reviews, although it's hard to trust reviews anymore.

@Maarvia: Are you a moron? Re-read what you wrote...your argument makes no sense. You said if COD5 puts up COD4 numbers, it will crush Resistance and Socom. My point is that COD5 will NOT put those numbers up because first it wont be that good, and second, it is going up against two very highly anticipated games, therefore it will be SUICIDE to go up against these games.

It doesn't specify Offline Multiplayer #. How many can play on one tv/console?

Even if this is the best WW2 game ever, I will still pass.
WW2 games just do not get me interested anymore. Wish em best of luck though.

Yep, COD3 sucked and Treyarch is living in the past, literally.

I've not played any of the WWII FPS games, so this'll be fine.
If it's done well, why not?
