According to a preview of an interview with 1UP, assistant producer Ryan Payton said in regards to the possibility of Metal Gear Solid 5: "there are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game. But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story." He further states that if Snake's story continues past MGS4, "we'll get to the point where the game has absolutely no basis in reality." Payton also hinted at who might be the future star of the next MGS game: there is "still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned." 1UP's Philip Kollar interprets all of this as Konami having nowhere to go with the series except for prequels to "continue fleshing out that same epic narrative."
Payton also talks about Metal Gear Online; they are "working on a handful of new maps, skills, and rules that we're bug checking at the moment ... It's not going to be too long before people are going to start seeing screenshots of the new stages ... By the time you're tired of the maps that come in the game, it'll probably be around the time we'll be bringing out the new ones."
More details will be revealed as the full interview is published on 1UP later today.Update: The full interview has been posted here. In response to rumors in Famitsu about Kojima already thinking about MGS5, Payton confirms that it is true. This also confirms Kojima's involvement, at least to some degree, in the next installment.

Yeah, I never had the issues you mentioned. I think it might've frozen once, that's it. Other than that, the game is golden outside of the fact that I'm awful at it.

I borrowed MGS4 and got pretty close to the end but not why I'm posting they need to fix the bugs in the Konami Id thing and in MGO.
Gamespot and the rest of these sites kinda lied to me when they said MGO was great.
I have a couple of issues that keep up persistently throughout the game like some frame rate issue but I can deal with that but really there was 3 times where I was joining a match and then my game just freezes and I have to turn off my PS3 i first thought it was horrible lag but then after the 3rd time I realized it was a game problem.

Probably your connection or your system. Haven't had that ever happen to me. Worst problem I had was when whoever was hosting had a bad connection and the game stopped about thirty seconds in. But it went right back to the menu screen afterwards and I was able to play a different session.

Prequels "make you think"? Eh? I don't quite see what you did there.

Prequels is more of food for thought when you see how they fit in to their universe.
So, yeah I'm up for an MGS prequel.

Don't really like the idea of a prequel but I guess MGS 3 turned out OK.
I'm also curious as to what role Kojima will have in producing this, and what direction he is taking with respect to his next project.

The way Japanese companies milk successful franchises, you can count on another one and another one.

Since MGS has such a great story, I could easily play through another prequel. Big Boss has an entire fascinating story that we know very little about.

@Aziz. Maybe he's thinking of Mario. Though yes Western companies do milk other franchises, COD to name one.

Hopefully the prequels will actually show Solid or Big Boss as MERCENARIES!!! How do you get the name legendary mercenary when you are not even a mercenary?

I would like to play through as The Boss, fighting along side the Cobra Unit in WW2. Or playing as Raiden in the events after MGS2 through to MGS4 segments.

After playing MGS4, I've never wanted to play as Raiden like I do now.

Yeah, I loved how Kojima made Raiden go from fairy boy to the world's most badass ninja. He had to replace that Cyborg Ninja dude somehow.
Raiden vs. Vamp = epic battle

****MGS 4 Spoilers****
"Filling in the gaps" of Big Boss' story would mean it would indeed be a prequel to MGS 1, 2, and 4.
However, it would also mean that such a game would be a sequel to at least Metal Gear Solid 3, as well as possibly Portable Ops and even Metal Gear 1 and 2, depending on the time it takes place.
Would that make it a Presquel?
