Farrell also implied that he was relieved GTA4 is going in a more epic direction while Saints Row 2 will involve more "tongue-in-cheek ... silly, over-the-top gameplay." Additionally, Farrell hinted at other areas where it will try and trump GTA4: DLC, "a larger, richer environment," combat system and a two-player mode.
We like how THQ is taking the series in a more humorous and slapstick direction, but we'll wait to make any final judgments until see the final product when Saints Row 2 is released on October 12th.

I can't wait! I loved the first game. This is going to be a better game than GTA IV. IV had bad graphics, slow running speed, too easy to die, forcing you to always cover. Saints Row 2 FTW!

(running speed reffering to your character)
Also i forgot to mention about how saint row lets you customize your character, your car, keep as many cars as you want not having to worry about bringing them back etc etc.

GTA 4 has bad graphics? That's news to me. Compare SR and GTA 4 side-by-side. It's almost laughable.

He's right about the graphics. On both my screens (HD 42" and 36" CRT) the text on the phone is almost unreadable and there are sooo many jaggies which they've given a hazy effect to try and hide it.

ugh, hasn't anyone else noticed that weird blur they put on the whole game to the point where you can't even see stuff 15 feet away in the game (yes that is a bit overkill but still), even though I have 20/15 eyes in real life. (better than 20/20 btw).

I just started playing the first one.... Lets just say it hasn't aged so well. After only 2 years and GTA 4, the game looks awful.

I bet from the start they were worried GTA wouldn't include an interesting storyline or great cast; they must be glad they have a point of difference now.

That wouldn't be a bad thing. Too bad GTA IV wasn't.

I don't really get the hang up on Saints Row being like GTA.
You can't make an open world crime game without being slated for ripping off GTA but every other genre is fair game whether its racing, 3D platform or first person shooters. Copy each others success as much as you like, just don't touch GTA.
Competition will do GTA a lot of good, there are many areas it can be improved so why not give another game a chance and let them copy each others good bits.

Actually, Saints Row is THEE biggest rip off of the GTA element The only thing that saves it is that what it does copy, it makes better. CErtain things like motorcycles, planes etc is not in the 1st game But i expect the second game to bee great and maybe even better(more fun) than GTA4

I'm fairly excited. GTA IV to me was a mediocre game with a great atmosphere, reviewers got blinded by the atmosphere and forgot all the many, many, many flaws of this game.
The worse part was how they stripped so many of the features from GTA: SA like customizing your car, planes (I know small but still, a tiny prop plane could have worked), customizing your character, less vehicles.
I also hate how less colorful it is, a real sad trend with games now. I mean how many of these developers actually look outside once and awhile. Outside is bright and colorful, not as Zero Punctuation said "Life with a used coffee filter on it".
I mean is this a system limitation or is it a lazy art style? I can sort of stomach it in FPS and war games but it's becoming a pretty lame and ugly trend.
