A new study out today by Experian Consumer Research concluded there are differences between consumers who purchased the PS3 and those who purchased the Xbox 360. The biggest difference being that while the Xbox 360 appeals the most to gamers who are 35-44, the PS3 appeals to the more senior demographic of 45 and up. The study also finds that youngsters ages 18-24 prefer the Nintendo Wii. Finally, the study uses "new media respondents" as a control group, defined as those who spend more than one hour online per week.
This study doesn't tell us anything we don't already know; they don't state any specific numbers in their press release and the presentation you can download basically concludes that there are no differences between PS3 owners and 360 owners except for age. After seeing a sample of their rudimentary research, if we were a company looking for statistics to help us market to gamers, we'd stay away from them.

Honestly, wtf, who between 18 and 24 prefers the wii?
I can't understand that, I know many people and although some see the wii as a lot of fun, no one seriously supports it, or would chose it over a PS3 (or xbox2 I guess).
And of course PS3 is popular with over 45 peoples, the xbox honestly has zero to offer that demographic.

Cool, it's nice to know that my PS3 will finally appeal to me 18 years from now. Until then, I supposed I'll shelve it.
Only problem is what system to play until 2026...

50+ men just want bluray and if they're going to buy one, they get ps3 so their grandkids can play it when they come over, so they get a 40gb ps3, happy feet on bluray, and transformers the game. i work at bestbuy and i see that very often.

I enjoy my PS3 and I'll be 50 this year. I don't have much time, I just stopped watching TV as much. I have friends older than me that have them. It's not because of Blueray either, we play. I even bought one, PS3 80gig, for my grandson who's 8. If you see papaw or old crow online it's me. Have fun my friends.

Experian is wrong yet again I think. Maybe the ages are off by about 10 to 20 years, which makes more sense.
Adjusted:
"The biggest difference being that while the Xbox 360 appeals the most to gamers who are 12-20, the PS3 appeals to the more senior demographic of 25 and up. The study also finds that youngsters ages 8-14 prefer the Nintendo Wii."

Well I'm 46 and the PS3 was the only choice for me.
Great for gaming and I sold it to the wife that its not just a games machine its an entertainment system too.
Gamed all my life as I'm sure you younger people will too... never too old to game!
Now have a Wii too, but that was my daughter (11) and wife's choice (but I think its a fun system too).
Mind you,,,damn Singstar ;-) .... now Its a challenge getting the wife off the PS3

I'm 30 and I own a 360 and a PS3, with the 360 getting most of the game time, as I generally only get exclusives for the black beast.
